this was metal gear at its finest. It had a good story, the psychological games it played on you during the final parts of the game were magnificent, and the ending was perfect. It ended on a hopeful note speaking to the player about how they could make the world a better place by passing on better memes. I consider this the true end of the whole metal gear franchise.
I don't see why they're so lauded. From the first cutscenes you can see all the tropes bleed through the screen. They're extremely corny but people actually take it seriously like its not camp trash
First one is just a glorified pac-man. Second one introduces actual stealth gameplay with a complex philosophical narrative and cool villains like Solidus and the Patriot AI
>First one is just a glorified pac-man
MGS1 and MGS2 are both "Arcade-Stealth" games, 2 just perfected the first games design philosophy. I don't see how you could enjoy 2 without realizing it's a direct extension of 1 in every single way
2 is my favourite but I highly recommend PW, it's actually a really fun game. The story isn't anything amazing but the gameplay loop is fun. Plus it's co-op
mgs2 is a masterpiece but you wouldnt know it by just playing, but only after watching the 30h marathon playthrough that goes through every detail and easter egg and optional convo
in that sense it kinda fails as a videogame, because you can kinda finish the tanker in 15min and the rest of the game in a weekend, and never even see 10% of all the shit in it
3 is god tier kino but 4 is the maximum possible and people continue to be filtered by it. God damn it dude I wish 4 would have been the last game ever for MGS.
>has a better story than any film released in 2017
To be fair it wasn’t difficult considering every movie released today is capeshit or liberal propaganda about trannies
I played MGS2 when I was 11 and it was so mind blowing and perspective changing I really dont think any other piece of art has come close for me. The patriots being dead is one of best twists in all media and really encapsulates the perpetual hell world we live in.
The closest thing you'll probably get to MGS2 levels of screwing with the audience is probably gonna be in the noir genre (chinatown) or mafia crime (once upon a time in america)
I only ever played mgs 1 but what’s the deal with 2. I remember it getting “10/10” from every magazine back then, but everybody I talk to today, who played it, all hated it. Are my friends just plebs?
MGS2 had a lot of game mechanics that represented a technical leap forward for stealth games as a whole, but it also had a really weird plot that some people love and some people hate. Reviewers of the time were blown away by both but today it's pretty controversial, the plot is kind of like an action-movie arthouse plot.

Same. Loves it from day one.
It was definitely good but 3 was awesome and so was 4 and that's where it all should have ended forever.
>this was metal gear at its finest.
Nope.
I disagree, but it's heavily underrated. I like it more than MGS1 and 3
metal gear solid sucks its gay tropes and anime tier stories
kojimbo comes up with visual concepts first and then tries to slap together a story around them to justify there existence
this
guy is a fricking hack
Agree.
Kojumbo should have worked as a cutscene cinematography director to compliment someone who can write a proper story and would be kino.
I don't see why they're so lauded. From the first cutscenes you can see all the tropes bleed through the screen. They're extremely corny but people actually take it seriously like its not camp trash
The only good MSG game is the first one
First one is just a glorified pac-man. Second one introduces actual stealth gameplay with a complex philosophical narrative and cool villains like Solidus and the Patriot AI

>Loved mgs 2
>Couldn't get into mgs1
>enjoyed mgs3
>couldn't get into peace walker
>couldn't get into MGS V
MGS2 is by far the best one. great political/philosophical depth, redpills everywhere, great humor, amazing visuals
2 is my favourite but I highly recommend PW, it's actually a really fun game. The story isn't anything amazing but the gameplay loop is fun. Plus it's co-op
PW is the last time you can see Kojima brilliance in the dialogues.
Play if you couldn't get into MGS1, play Twin Snakes
Twins Snakes is absolute garbage
Third post best post.
MGS1 is the magnum opus of Kojumbo.
MGS4
MOST OF U homieS HERE WERE TO BROKE TO OWN A PS3 AT THE TIME.
Kojima is the roland emmerich of videogame. Dude is hack and full of himself, least Emmerich has lil bit of self awareness.
Really bad comparison.
it's truly a perfect comparison. What are you on about?
Wrong board, manchild.
>manchild
well la de da mr mature anime imageboard user

30h playthrough name? i got time to burn
look up Outerheaven VODs
they used to do weeklong full series marathons with all the extra stuff
MGS3 is the most kino metal gear game and it's not even frickin close
3 is god tier kino but 4 is the maximum possible and people continue to be filtered by it. God damn it dude I wish 4 would have been the last game ever for MGS.
MGS4 took a shit on 2 gays and for that reason it's the best MGS of all time
mgs4 was just 12 hours of pure fanservice kino
>took a shit on 2
I’ll never get this meme
It's actually pure MGS2 fanservice, especially how they brought back both Raiden AND Vamp
jerking off alone to a still image in a closet
>le MGS1 reboot on a Off-shore platform
have a nice day
Why do people hate mgsv so much? or at the very least they dislike it. I thought it was pretty good
it's unfinished and unpolished
if you didnt play the others it's not as jarring, which is why most people who like 5 are those that only played it
Its a very good game but I would say its a pretty shit mgs game
1>=3>2>>>4>>>>>>>rest
The best fight in the series is still taking on the Russian Hind D with the stinger missiles.
?
gameplay/mechanics wise
5>4>3>2>1
plot wise
2>>>34>1>>>>>>5
impact/memorability
1>2>>4>3>>>5
>The best fight is still..
clinically moronic take. howd you put that fight over literally any other fight in mgs1?
4 is the death of franchise.
Very painful to sit through.
Caring about stories in video games is one of the leading causes of severe brain damage
hey your in the wrong thread the contrarian arthouse film thread is two threads down
>has a better story than any film released in 2017
To be fair it wasn’t difficult considering every movie released today is capeshit or liberal propaganda about trannies
>propaganda about trannies
very ironic post since Nier is a huge troony series, both in game and out
I played MGS2 when I was 11 and it was so mind blowing and perspective changing I really dont think any other piece of art has come close for me. The patriots being dead is one of best twists in all media and really encapsulates the perpetual hell world we live in.
Bullit
This movie
The closest thing you'll probably get to MGS2 levels of screwing with the audience is probably gonna be in the noir genre (chinatown) or mafia crime (once upon a time in america)
/2
The best MGS was PoOps or AC!D
>you'll never have MGS2 threads in Cinemaphile again
fricking zoomers
I only ever played mgs 1 but what’s the deal with 2. I remember it getting “10/10” from every magazine back then, but everybody I talk to today, who played it, all hated it. Are my friends just plebs?
>Are my friends just plebs?
many such cases
>Are my friends just plebs?
No, they have good taste, I'm jealous, my friends love MGS2.
MGS2 IS KINO
You'll hurt your eyes playing so close to the TV
> OMG THIS IS SO POSTMODERN
god I love nick so much
I love it when he starts calling you a loser and tells you to go outside cos all you do is play video games. Chuds absolutely btfo
