when I first saw this scene I got all kinds of contradictory emotions, I realized it was from having the scene spoiled on Cinemaphile so many times. Cinemaphile didn't ruin the movie, it's something inherent to watching films after their release. Something about the way information naturally spreads. The experience of seeing this film in japan on release is completely different and unrecoverable.

not really. You are more likely to be spoiled seeing the movie while everyone is talking about it.

that's just the mechanism. How came you to even see the movie, if not in a theater in Japan? Some contaminated context setup

Theaters are all dramatically different in their AV setups, there is no pure uniform "original experience" that was ever had by anyone at any point in time. Honestly you just sound like sour grapes because you got spoiled and like you're trying to take away from others' enjoyment out of spite for a "going in blind" experience you never got to have

I'm just saying movies are different 10 years later. There's no ideal separate realm they exist in. As for ruining others experience, that's pure projection. My saying it's different has no potential to cause offense especially if it isn't true. In fact I was making excuses for this braindead thread, the whole effect of which is to ruin a so-called great scare, by saying there are inevitably people like you as well as other mechanisms.

youtube revolutionized media with the pig bodycam. For the first time, situations in life that were previously dramatized are now filmed in HD with full sound. Youtube leapfrogged over amateur pornography in drama and realism, it needs to be taken seriously. Video essayists should go to another platform though!

              Anonymous

youtube is just a place where bodycam footage can be posted. it had zero influence on the existence of bodycams. If anything, google is now trying to fight the monetization of bodycam footage, thus, disincentivizing its spread.

              >Youtube leapfrogged over amateur pornography in drama and realism
and this is just delusional gibberish.

Similar moment in The Woman in Black from the early 90s.
There's a bit where she appears over the guy's bed and something about the way it's framed and the length of time they hold on her insane face as she drifts down towards him just trips something primal in the back of your mind and you have a genuine little "nope" moment where, if you were in that situation, you would have snapped.

Watched it unspoiled and unironically it shit me up so much that I stopped watching and took a break from horror. I'd been watching horror movies on the daily for like one-and-a-half months up to that point. Was happy to see when I googled it that I wasn't the only one who got fricked up by that scene. It really taps into or channels something ethereal. Went back to the movie a few days later and finished it, it was good but that was definitely the peak

Kairo fricked me up for a month. I couldn't sleep with the lights off. This scene and pic related fricked me up the most. Now I can rewatch it no problem. I seem to have "digested" whatever bothered me on a fundamental level. The entire movie is just so bleak.

Yeah it's weird man. Caught me off-guard because I haven't had a reaction to a horror movie since I was a kid so I thought I was completely desensitized.

Almost identical story for me. I was pretty spooked already due to the buildup of mysterious, senseless death and sudden bursts (or PULSES!??) of paranormal visions of horror. Then this happened, with the long insistent focus and the slow unrelenting approach, and I noped out because I didn't know how much longer it could go on for and how much worse it could get. I later finished it with the lights on after a break and had almost no reaction to the rest. Only time I've noped as an adult. (As a kid it was the mummy with Brendan Fraser, tales from the crypt, and X files)

So is it that scary? I've been so weak to horror lately that even fricking The Witch got me a little by the end, and I consider it pretty much a drama. I think I have to desensitize myself to horror, and judging by the reactions here and on the rest of the internet, this movie doesn't seem to be a appropriate start.

I still don't understand how an adult person can be scared by a movie. Then again, having seen the real thing myself I guess nothing beats that experience.
