I feel like we approach Narnia too much as if it were Tolkien where everything is mythopoeic and done in the service of larger worldbuilding. Narnia is more akin to almost something like Wizard of Oz where there is a much higher tolerance for improbable/indulgent dumb shit.

More like Tolkien and Lewis represented two fundamentally different perceptions of myths and fantasy
Both had unbelievably optimistic and hopeful views of the world, but where Tolkien treats myth as adjacent to history, Lewis relishes in making them as much of a fairy tale as possible.
It’s why you see both authors shine in moments of man putting his life and happiness on the line out of faith for goodness, but while for Tolkien that’s in the middle of a desperate battle, for Lewis it’s like getting a magic golden apple for the good lion instead of taking it to your mom
Don’t make the mistake of thinking Lewis was naive, few people had seen the world as bleak and cynical as he did, he just emerged from it all the more re-enchanted with beauty, innocence, and wonder. Wonder is probably the best word to describe how Lewis looks at the world

Probably because tolkien’s Catholicism is very famous and their friendship is also pretty well known
Speaking as a catholic though, Lewis’ approach to theology is clearly VERY influenced by his friendship with Tolkien and is closer to catholic theological teaching than any Protestant church, especially modern Anglicans/Episcopalians
His style of apologetics is also such a departure from *most* Protestants that I wouldn’t be surprised if people just assumed it meant he was catholic, he’s very respectful toward authority and tradition in a way you rarely see Protestants being

CS Lewis writes fiction aimed at cynical atheists, its not meant for christians to take 100% factually seriously. Hes converted 100,000s more people to christianity than you ever will.
