This reminds me of the Percy Jackson writer. He was so angry that they made a character brunette instead of blonde. Then in the sequel film they changed her hair colour.

But in the new series, she is played by a black woman and he's defending it.

Pathetic response. Not that anon bu it's really not about race for me either, i'm not some chud. It's that the character so visually typified the 80s goth girl aesthetic, so fully embodied the archetype in her design, that that's something an adaptation should reflect. The design *is* the character in comics first. And that doesn't preclude black actresses in any way, it's not that she should be caucasian but that otherworldly, gothic white. That no human is.

couldn't they have at least cast a young feminine black girl and give her goth make-up and outfits rather than le stern butch black lady with no unique style we've seen in everything ever made in the last 5 years?

the whole point of the character design is she's disarming cute and ironically wears fashion from a subculture detractors say trivializes death

No anon that's not part of the agenda. They have to have the fat representative and black representative be the same person. Casting hot chicks like Halle Berry just doesn't cut it

She turns in to a chinese girl in the original run. She tells a story where she spends a day on earth as a human and hangs out with a chinese boy til he dies.

              Oh, right.

Well, it is a bit of a goalpost move, but I was referring more toward how Dream turns into different races/species for when he appears before different individuals. I don't think Death ever does that in the original run--not that I can recall, at least.

Brief Lives is the original run and she changes her race just like you describe. In the comic she meets ham gadling, the israeli guy she kills in issue #8 morpheus and other endless. She shows up as white to them. She shows up as chinese to the chinese boy.

Delirium also turns chinese in the issue about the emperor of USA.

I assumed all the endless are seen by people as how their religion and culture interprets them. Remember, they are anthropomorphic personifications of ideas.

John Byrne said during the whole Fant4stic debacle that the current trend of intentional, pre-meditated raceswapping was offensive since you're basically just giving black actors and actresses table scraps and telling them that they're not worthing making worthwhile original roles for.

The media that got wind of it accused him of being racist lmao

The issue is they never want to make new things or new stories. So they do a new Anne Boleyn story with a black woman. Tudor Queen is now black. Because god forbid they tell a new story.

No. Death's casting was the height of woke stupidity and for Gaiman to start defending that idiocy sours the whole adaptation to the point I will actively avoid it. In spite of her ability to appear as anyone/thing, Sandman's Death was represented by a pale, white, goth chick with a British accent and will always be so.
