If you're just going by Oscars as the gauge Streep has 21 nominations and 3 wins. Don't see Stone ever being able to match that output. Also Blanchett's best is much better than Stone's and she'll probably retire with 4 Oscars.

What's Oscar bait about these? I'm surprised the Oscars embraced Poor Things tbh.

I absolutely must assume you think oscarbait only applies to plot and nothing else if you don't think both movies were made with the sole intent of of baiting the academy.

So what's Oscar bait about them?

nta but feminist messaging with faux arthouse visuals is a staple of the academy

The female characters in both are highly irrational throughout most of the films. I don't see the Favourite being feminist and although I keep hearing people refer to Poor Things as feminist I'm not sure why. Even if his intentions were to make feminist films I think both are inadvertently able to be interpreted as the opposite.

                >it could be interpreted both ways
It really can't. Both movies are about how women are controlled by men and aren't allowed to be "free" sexually. An absurd notion on it's face.

The Favourite is a woman being controlled by two conniving and ambitious women.
I don't know how Poor Things is about a woman being controlled. She's contained at the start of the film then permitted to leave as soon as she desires to then she does as she pleases with zero regard how it impacts the people that care about her or desire her and watches indifferently as people are destroyed by her actions.

This is exactly why it is being celebrated as a feminist film.

Don't you have to extensively campaign and kiss ass to win an Oscar? Meaning if the actual person who gave the years best performance didn't bother to campaign they would have no chance at winning? Doesn't that defeat the whole point of giving an award to the most deserving?

      Easy googling...
      https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/2/20/18222092/favourite-best-picture-oscars-2019-win-lose
      >Why The Favourite is our favo(u)rite Best Picture nominee
      > In many ways, The Favourite feels like a very updated version of the kind of movie that is typically Oscar bait. It has all the traditional trappings: It’s a sumptuous period drama about real historical figures caught up in a fraught political moment, with lush lighting, richly detailed set and costume design, and a stellar acting ensemble, all brought together by a director who’s seemed to be just on the cusp of Oscar recognition for a while
      I await your concession.
