It turned into gay drama from episode 2
The pilot episode very heavily hinted at gay drama.
The problem is that the gay drama we have is an extremely watered down and predictable version of the gay drama episode 2 promised.
They're in Hell already, might as well make the best of things.
I think it works as a one-off gag. It makes no sense but as a quick joke, it's so random and fricked up that it works.
Now if they come back as part of a B plot of a future episode or they make a short about it, they'd ruin it. Because then you're explaining the joke or trying to make it make sense.

schizo theory but Vee also voices Cerebella in Skullgirls, and she tends to speak with a more gravelly tone, which I could definitely hear in her voice here.

See I'd probably give them props for acknowledging Blitzo is an butthole, but even when they do it they still give him sympathy. Verosika actively mocks him for expecting that, and yet still does it anyway minutes later. It's that type of cowardly writing where you're expected to both see the protagonist like an butthole but also want them to be happy. Vivzie says she's inspired by Bojack Horseman, and that show sometimes tumbled into these areas as well, but Bojack always had the characters lose relationships, friendships and family in ways that didn't give them closure. As such, their mistakes DID have consequences, bonds were broken that were never repaired and characters remained unhappy. That was the point. However, in Helluva Boss, these characters ARE meant to be happy. Blitzo will eventually get Stolas back and they'll form a "wholesome" romance because it's what the fans and writers want. Sure, they'll have their drama in between all of it, but they're not going to be apart permanently. These characters fight and scream but it's all for naught because they're destined to get along by the end due to how much the writers like the characters, and couldn't stomach seeing their faves hate each other permanently.
Just commit to it or stop pretending it's anything but delaying your shitty ship.
Did you not watch the show? Stolas always used Blitzo for sex, that's all there was to it. Not he's pretending to be hurt by Blitzo not caring for him.
Honestly, thinking back to all the episodes, Stolas is the one that calls Blitz first, and every time it's always about fricking never going to see a movie or just hangout. Hell, it was Blitz's idea for the dinner date (that was just used to spy on M&M) but it still was Blitz that suggested it. The one time we see Stolas come to Blitz and it's not about in anyway it's because Octavia goes missing.

There is a difference between obstacles in a magical quest to save the world and a relationship between two people. In Lord of the Rings, it's the journey, not the destination. Nobody would enjoy a quest where the endpoint is instantly reached. In relationships, what people want is the part where they are together, not when they're apart. People hate that in romcoms where couples break up and fight for no good reason, and make a whole bunch of drama just to end up together again. Even in cartoons, Star VS did the same with disastrous results

For most people, a conflict in a relationship amounts to a petty argument and/or not speaking for a day, while something like Stolitz is very much "These people do not deserve each other and the epitome of toxic relationships". People don't view relationships as a means to better each other the same way a journey would. People expect you to be developed already to have the reward of a committed relationship, even if that's far from realistic.
To me, I would genuinely be satisfied with Stolitz dying here, it makes complete sense for Blitzo's character arc and development. We got to see how he is such a disaster at relationships and how something like Verosika's parties could even exist! I can't say the same for "the progression of Stolitz as an endgame pairing". You have proven that they do not do well together, so why the frick would I want them to get back together??

a bit of a copout, we don't really KNOW what Hell standards are. It's why Blitzo's line of "Hello! We are in Hell!" gets to me. He's incorrect, correct, and VERY FRICKING WRONG all at the same time, and not in a good way.

It would be better if they stayed broken up, for sure. Because then actions have consequences and things change dramatically, that's interesting. But they'll just get back together so what's the point?
Blitzo and Stolas were never a couple. They fricked, but their feelings for each other were never expressed until Full Moon, and Blitzo still has yet to articulate his. This is what keeps people watching.

I couldn't care less about watching it. I just skipped through it as I did not care for a single thing that was happening. Started with how in fact Blitzo somehow didn't know that angelic weapons can hurt Stolas for real and... I just don't care.

I genuinely lost any semblance of care for this series. 5 damn years with it... And now. Now I feel sad. Still will write a fic about it, but now... the normal show I couldn't care less about.
I do that because it's fun for me... Also because I put a lot of time and effort already into writing it. An effort I do not see in the show proper in terms of worldbuilding and character writing (people seem to enjoy it greatly which is another thing that keeps me going). Also it's around 200k words now as weird as that sounds so it would not be good to just stop.

I do in the end do it for fun and well to help myself improve in writing overall. And people overall tell me that they like the effort I put into the writing and often compare it to the show. A show now I don't care for and I am honestly terrified this apathy will extend to my story which I hope will not happen.
If you're terrified of apathy spreading to your writing, it's not good to take comparisons to the show seriously. Try doing some shorter original wiring every now and then to build your confidence up.

What the hell was going on with like the first half of S2, this backhalf is just so much much stronger so far it's kinda crazy its the same season of the same show (Though I do mostly like Exes and Ohs).
I think I don't like this show anymore after this episode. I'll still check out new episodes but unless they pull a fricking 180 degree turn from their current trajectory I definitely won't be excited for future episodes anymore. As someone who has been on board for Stolitz from the beginning I feel like the last few episodes have completely destroyed the reason I liked it in the first place. Stolas being a naive romantic who wants a storybook romance and expects everything to go just the way he wants it and not giving due consideration to his partners thoughts and feelings and Blitzo being a jerk who's so used to hurting the people he cares about and being rejected he pushes people away before they get close was a great setup for an angsty romance. But no, the writers seem hellbent on castrating Stolas's character, sanding away all his flaws and woobifying him into this perfect little baby that never did anything wrong except one little mistake but that was probably Blitzo's fault anyway and going way too far in the other direction with Blitzo and turning him from a jerk who pushes people away into a genuine monster who seems to enjoy emotionally destroying people just for funsies.

That show was always going to get a Season 2.
It isn't that popular. You never see anyone defending it like Big Mouth.
If Primos can get indefinitely delayed and/or cancelled by moderate backlash for Disney standards, I don't see how Velma of all things would be in David Zaslav's good graces or even at eye level.
If it does get a season 3, it's not getting a season 4.
I also do not understand why they completely flanderized Stolas. I can only guess that its because he is the most popular character in the show or because someone in the writing staff is self inserting hard.
It's always been clear that Stolas been a fun character to write for and the fans always loved him. Even at his shallowest, he's supposed to be nice at heart but has no understanding of consequences or how the world views him. It's supposed to be what makes him relatable to Blitzo, that they both are very self-absorbed and they need to grow as adults and parents. The plot is already written.
The biggest issue was the long gap between Season 1 and 2 and wanting to get to the BIG STOLITZ DOWNFALL moments, skipping over Stolas's development. It's likely that the development hell and development of Hazbin Hotel has made her pretty antsy at getting to these big moments. Since at least OZZIE's, Viv wanted to make it clear the faults of the relationship and why it is prone to breaking down, but she has to skip Stolas's development for doing such. So Stolas has to be way more caring (definitely after Loolooland, probably after DHORKS, showing that there is a good chance of losing Blitzo thanks to his job) but we don't get to see him do better or follow through his promises of being more attentive.
Again, it's her confusing plot, character, and relationship development, thinking they all are equal and can be done with the same steps, forgetting that you need to show each one differently and show very clearly why your ideas are good, the important themes you get across. It's why Viv has to state the show's theme is about Fatherhood/Paternity over showing it, there's like 5 episodes tops you can argue is about such.

Yeah unlike some anons here, I don’t or didn’t anyway hate Stolas at all, or prefer that STOLAS become the stock cartoony evil villain instead of Stella or anything like that.
I just preferred a Stolas that the narrative acknowledged as ALSO a flawed and complex character who made mistakes, which is both more interesting and more realistic.
Instead more and more the entire narrative and all of the characterization seems to totally warp to make Stolas look like a totally faultless pure angel with no real flaws besides (just like Charlie from Hazbin Hotel) being Too Good for this World because he was BORN super duper wealthy and privileged.

I think this is the natural endpoint of Stolitz. Stolas knows what he wants, he outright said it, and that isn't something Blitzo is emotionally capable of providing. Lets consider what this episode resolves for the parties involved yes?
Stolas has, this entire time, been the bird in the golden cage. He broke out of the bars of stella yes, but his HEART was still behind the bars of Blitzo. This is merely the point where he fully realized that and that its okay for him to move on and find what he wants with someone else. This is the moment he is truly free.
Meanwhile Blitzo of course is at long last confronted with the consequences of his actions. Forced to actually see the impact he has left on others without being able to put up his own emotional defense mechanisms. He's gotten many wakeup calls before, but this is the first one where he's been truly forced to LISTEN to that call. To finally look inwards, and to ask himself who he is and what he wants rather than deflecting any such introspection. The wounds at this point between him and stolas are too deep for the two to truly get back together, but that doesn't mean that he can't, for once, learn from them and improve.
Season 1 was establishing everything.
Season 2 has been Blitzo being forced to confront himself and his past.
Season 3 will be him finally growing as a person, finally becoming a man WORTHY of the relationships he craves so much. Finally becoming one Helluva Boss
Yeah, it would be AMAZING as an endpoint. We got to experience the up, down, and sideways of this arc and the bittersweetness of it all would be very impactful to people, at least to the fujo fans attached to the drama.
But we all know it's not, it's merely the "Belly of the Beast", the Darkest Hour, the inflection point where things supposed to start turning around for the relationship. It is frustrating that it is because, again, they don't work together. How fast Stolas rebounded goes to show it isn't Blitzo that makes a relationship special but just wanted to feel needed and desired.
That should be the fricking END of the relationship to any living being. But this is a fujo show written by a hack writer who never views the whole picture of her projects, so we get this cliche bullshit instead.

The funniest thing about this post is that we are almost at the end of season 2 and people are still taking guesses at what the series is about. I loved TLTS (not so much growing up but even then I at least liked it) but I can't say it is a good Looney Tunes show. Even as LTS as a sitcom, it didn't really made good twists or utilize the brand's sense of comedy and craziness until late into Season 2, and by that point the writing was already on the wall.
It was a good awakening for me that cartoons can be slower paced and still be very interesting and fun to watch, but I wouldn't say it aged the best or it is how I would do the concept justice. Imagine Space Jam played completely straight as a sports film and you see the problem right there. I think how The Day The Earth Blew Up is doing a better job at showing how the Toons can live a domestic life while still being Toons at the end of the day.
Crazy Lola is still the GOAT and somehow has a better relationship than Stolitz.

You just posted a description of the place that implies that it is perpetually on fire, now that statement can be interpreted as metaphorical but if we go literally, hell should not be LA, it should be LA actually on fire forever with everybody constantly burning and not partying. I am not saying that is how I think the show should go but my point is that hell kinda loses its narrative and artistic merit when it is treated as no worse than any american city.

I'm getting really tired of how bad the world building is. One minute, there's apparently some Demon Law that demons can't just go to the human world and they have to wear disguises or else they get in trouble. What the consequences are of breaking this is unknown. But the government knows now demons exist because of IMP antics. The next, they all just go to Earth and have a big concert party. It happens every year yet DHORKS aren't surveiling it. But it's halloween so it's ok. But why is it ok? Yeah costumes and all but Blitz straight up admits to humans that he is NOT wearing a costume. Am I expected to believe there are stakes over getting caught? Or that a human wouldn't try to crash the party and realize those are real demons? Yeah this show is a comedy but at least be consistent.
This one I'm going to give Viv the benefit of the doubt and say there's only so much you can show in 22 minutes. A competent writer would still struggle to give both sides equal time in one episode, so it is better to split the fallout and morals between episodes. It's not like she doesn't know Stolas is at fault, it's not time to show things.
Still, it is pretty annoying that Blitzo can't get a good line in that feels well-deserved and the framing of each shot always put him on the backend. Even in the case of the viewers knowing too much about Blitzo's faults and inability to have a healthy relationship, the way the show makes him out to be THIS MUCH of a monster just doesn't align well to everything we know about him, Stolas, and Hell as a society.
This is why I keep stressing how botched the series is on both a top-down and bottom-up level. The issues compound on each other and makes what should be genuinely good or acceptable writing be at least tagged with an asterisk.

Even if she's aware of it, the perspective of the show itself heavily favors him over Blitzo. That's something shows do at times without realizing, they make relationships where two are at fault, but because the focus is mainly blaming one side, the public perception is different.

2. how the frick did Verosika learn of Blitz and Stolas breaking up? Their relationship wasn't official in the slightest. Yeh, they've been seen at Ozzies once, but that's it. Plus, the way Stolas had been called out by Ozz and Stolas' lack of response should have been interpreted as them not being committed to each other at all.
Then one night they break up (privately in Stolas' mansion) and the very next day Verosika knows... How?
Verosika strikes me as incredibly petty and vindictive, so she'd probably A: Keep tabs on Blitz's new relationship and latch on the second it seemed like there was turmoil, and B: invite anyone and everyone that he had a one night stand with. That and I'm sure there were people bringing friends along, party crashers, what have you.

The issue is that she is finding flaws in Blitz by portraying Stolas as a sad dindu. Like other anons have said, the show seems to operate in a pity hierarchy and this episode seems to have decided that Blitz is at the absolute bottom. Even Verosika is higher than him on the pity totem pole for some reason now.

I personally, am upset because I know this is going to end up with the the classic "split up and reconcile" trope and Stolas and Blitzo get back together. I just feel like Viv is going to make him an uwu soft boi. I want him to stay an butthole and get the bad ending.
Stolas shouldn't have been at the party. Stolas shouldn't have even heard about the party. The episode should have had the fight, but leave out the invitation, and then have Blitz go on the Apology Tour until he gets to Verosika on his list, where he finds out that she throws a "Frick Blitzo" party every year for all his exes. Chop out all the scenes of Stolas at the party, get to his conversation with Verosika, and cut the episode there with Blitz taking away that he's not the only one being hurt in these interactions.
It would have been a lot funnier if verosika implied blitzo showed up to these parties every year when she saw him.
But this episode seems to have completely forgotten it's supposed to be part comedy.
Lot of people blaming Stolas in here but this one is all on Blitzo. Even if Stolas objectifying him in the past was fricked up he still let him go and is trying to move on now. Blitzo is the one choosing to keep showing up and bother him in the shittiest possible ways.
Just because Stolas is beating himself up doesn't mean that Blitzo's behavior in this episode is his fault. They both acted shitty but the difference is Stolas is trying to change his ways now while Blitzo is just doubling down.
Blitz doubling down was such a fricking dumb move. The tonal whiplash between these two episodes is irredeemable. They wrote him to revert yet again despite being ready to talk things out at the end of the previous episode. And of course they're refusing to acknowledge that Stolas was 100% in the wrong.
Well I like that we got some Verosika songs (albeit one of them is relegated to background noise again), but she never struck me as the type to go out of her way to host hatred parties.
Sure, she'd give Blitz shit if they ever encountered each other coincidentally, but this just seems like trying to paint her as insecure.

the problem isn't that it's gay or that it's melodramatic, just that it's terrible and boring.
i liked most of the homosexual drama in the previous episodes, but this was so painful to watch i gave up in the mid of it.
See I'd probably give them props for acknowledging Blitzo is an butthole, but even when they do it they still give him sympathy. Verosika actively mocks him for expecting that, and yet still does it anyway minutes later. It's that type of cowardly writing where you're expected to both see the protagonist like an butthole but also want them to be happy. Vivzie says she's inspired by Bojack Horseman, and that show sometimes tumbled into these areas as well, but Bojack always had the characters lose relationships, friendships and family in ways that didn't give them closure. As such, their mistakes DID have consequences, bonds were broken that were never repaired and characters remained unhappy. That was the point. However, in Helluva Boss, these characters ARE meant to be happy. Blitzo will eventually get Stolas back and they'll form a "wholesome" romance because it's what the fans and writers want. This is a genuine disconnect between what is good for plot writing and what is good for relationship writing. You do need conflict in both but very few people are satisfied with a breakdown of a relationship in the same way as the hero losing the battle but not the war. For most people, a conflict in a relationship amounts to a petty argument and/or not speaking for a day, while something like Stolitz is very much "These people do not deserve each other and the epitome of toxic relationships". People don't view relationships as a means to better each other the same way a journey would. People expect you to be developed already to have the reward of a committed relationship, even if that's far from realistic.
To me, I would genuinely be satisfied with Stolitz dying here, it makes complete sense for Blitzo's character arc and development. We got to see how he is such a disaster at relationships and how something like Verosika's parties could even exist! I can't say the same for "the progression of Stolitz as an endgame pairing". You have proven that they do not do well together, so why the frick would I want them to get back together??

What the hell was going on with like the first half of S2, this backhalf is just so much much stronger so far it's kinda crazy its the same season of the same show (Though I do mostly like Exes and Ohs).

Stolas being a naive romantic who wants a storybook romance and expects everything to go just the way he wants it and not giving due consideration to his partners thoughts and feelings and Blitzo being a jerk who's so used to hurting the people he cares about and being rejected he pushes people away before they get close was a great setup for an angsty romance. But no, the writers seem hellbent on castrating Stolas's character, sanding away all his flaws and woobifying him into this perfect little baby that never did anything wrong except one little mistake but that was probably Blitzo's fault anyway and going way too far in the other direction with Blitzo and turning him from a jerk who pushes people away into a genuine monster who seems to enjoy emotionally destroying people just for funsies.

It's always been clear that Stolas been a fun character to write for and the fans always loved him. Even at his shallowest, he's supposed to be nice at heart but has no understanding of consequences or how the world views him. It's supposed to be what makes him relatable to Blitzo, that they both are very self-absorbed and they need to grow as adults and parents. The plot is already written.
The biggest issue was the long gap between Season 1 and 2 and wanting to get to the BIG STOLITZ DOWNFALL moments, skipping over Stolas's development. It's likely that the development hell and development of Hazbin Hotel has made her pretty antsy at getting to these big moments. Since at least OZZIE's, Viv wanted to make it clear the faults of the relationship and why it is prone to breaking down, but she has to skip Stolas's development for doing such. So Stolas has to be way more caring (definitely after Loolooland, probably after DHORKS, showing that there is a good chance of losing Blitzo thanks to his job) but we don't get to see him do better or follow through his promises of being more attentive.
Again, it's her confusing plot, character, and relationship development, thinking they all are equal and can be done with the same steps, forgetting that you need to show each one differently and show very clearly why your ideas are good, the important themes you get across. It's why Viv has to state the show's theme is about Fatherhood/Paternity over showing it, there's like 5 episodes tops you can argue is about such.

I think this is the natural endpoint of Stolitz. Stolas knows what he wants, he outright said it, and that isn't something Blitzo is emotionally capable of providing. Lets consider what this episode resolves for the parties involved yes?
Stolas has, this entire time, been the bird in the golden cage. He broke out of the bars of stella yes, but his HEART was still behind the bars of Blitzo. This is merely the point where he fully realized that and that its okay for him to move on and find what he wants with someone else. This is the moment he is truly free.
Meanwhile Blitzo of course is at long last confronted with the consequences of his actions. Forced to actually see the impact he has left on others without being able to put up his own emotional defense mechanisms. He's gotten many wakeup calls before, but this is the first one where he's been truly forced to LISTEN to that call. To finally look inwards, and to ask himself who he is and what he wants rather than deflecting any such introspection. The wounds at this point between him and stolas are too deep for the two to truly get back together, but that doesn't mean that he can't, for once, learn from them and improve.
Season 1 was establishing everything.
Season 2 has been Blitzo being forced to confront himself and his past.
Season 3 will be him finally growing as a person, finally becoming a man WORTHY of the relationships he craves so much. Finally becoming one Helluva Boss
Yeah, it would be AMAZING as an endpoint. We got to experience the up, down, and sideways of this arc and the bittersweetness of it all would be very impactful to people, at least to the fujo fans attached to the drama.
But we all know it's not, it's merely the "Belly of the Beast", the Darkest Hour, the inflection point where things supposed to start turning around for the relationship. It is frustrating that it is because, again, they don't work together. How fast Stolas rebounded goes to show it isn't Blitzo that makes a relationship special but just wanted to feel needed and desired.
That should be the fricking END of the relationship to any living being. But this is a fujo show written by a hack writer who never views the whole picture of her projects, so we get this cliche bullshit instead.
It is more "Why doesn't someone kill him instead?" Assassins for Hire are apparently a great business, there is a full mob, this man is a threat to anyone looking for love, and he's far from immortal. I'm very certain you can just kill him in his sleep, at least before he got his business going.

I loved TLTS (not so much growing up but even then I at least liked it) but I can't say it is a good Looney Tunes show. Even as LTS as a sitcom, it didn't really made good twists or utilize the brand's sense of comedy and craziness until late into Season 2, and by that point the writing was already on the wall.
It was a good awakening for me that cartoons can be slower paced and still be very interesting and fun to watch, but I wouldn't say it aged the best or it is how I would do the concept justice. Imagine Space Jam played completely straight as a sports film and you see the problem right there. I think how The Day The Earth Blew Up is doing a better job at showing how the Toons can live a domestic life while still being Toons at the end of the day.
Crazy Lola is still the GOAT and somehow has a better relationship than Stolitz.

I'm getting really tired of how bad the world building is. One minute, there's apparently some Demon Law that demons can't just go to the human world and they have to wear disguises or else they get in trouble. What the consequences are of breaking this is unknown. But the government knows now demons exist because of IMP antics. The next, they all just go to Earth and have a big concert party. It happens every year yet DHORKS aren't surveiling it. But it's halloween so it's ok. But why is it ok? Yeah costumes and all but Blitz straight up admits to humans that he is NOT wearing a costume. Am I expected to believe there are stakes over getting caught? Or that a human wouldn't try to crash the party and realize those are real demons? Yeah this show is a comedy but at least be consistent.

This one I'm going to give Viv the benefit of the doubt and say there's only so much you can show in 22 minutes. A competent writer would still struggle to give both sides equal time in one episode, so it is better to split the fallout and morals between episodes. It's not like she doesn't know Stolas is at fault, it's not time to show things.
Still, it is pretty annoying that Blitzo can't get a good line in that feels well-deserved and the framing of each shot always put him on the backend. Even in the case of the viewers knowing too much about Blitzo's faults and inability to have a healthy relationship, the way the show makes him out to be THIS MUCH of a monster just doesn't align well to everything we know about him, Stolas, and Hell as a society.
This is why I keep stressing how botched the series is on both a top-down and bottom-up level. The issues compound on each other and makes what should be genuinely good or acceptable writing be at least tagged with an asterisk.

I definitely feel they can show that Stolas is also in the wrong if they cut some "BLITZO IS AN butthole" segments that weren't needed. Even if she's aware of it, the perspective of the show itself heavily favors him over Blitzo. That's something shows do at times without realizing, they make relationships where two are at fault, but because the focus is mainly blaming one side, the public perception is different.

Then one night they break up (privately in Stolas' mansion) and the very next day Verosika knows... How?

That and I'm sure there were people bringing friends along, party crashers, what have you.

The issue is that she is finding flaws in Blitz by portraying Stolas as a sad dindu. Like other anons have said, the show seems to operate in a pity hierarchy and this episode seems to have decided that Blitz is at the absolute bottom. Even Verosika is higher than him on the pity totem pole for some reason now.

Stolas shouldn't have been at the party. Stolas shouldn't have even heard about the party. The episode should have had the fight, but leave out the invitation, and then have Blitz go on the Apology Tour until he gets to Verosika on his list, where he finds out that she throws a "Frick Blitzo" party every year for all his exes. Chop out all the scenes of Stolas at the party, get to his conversation with Verosika, and cut the episode there with Blitz taking away that he's not the only one being hurt in these interactions.
It would have been a lot funnier if verosika implied blitzo showed up to these parties every year when she saw him.
But this episode seems to have completely forgotten it's supposed to be part comedy.

Just because Stolas is beating himself up doesn't mean that Blitzo's behavior in this episode is his fault. They both acted shitty but the difference is Stolas is trying to change his ways now while Blitzo is just doubling down.
Blitz doubling down was such a fricking dumb move. The tonal whiplash between these two episodes is irredeemable. They wrote him to revert yet again despite being ready to talk things out at the end of the previous episode. And of course they're refusing to acknowledge that Stolas was 100% in the wrong.
