The movie is not happening. They cancelled Dracula film after failure of Morbius. However the dark universe version with Nic Cage focused on Renfield was already filmed so it is going to be released. The Mummy twitter confirms.
Nicolas Hoult plays Renfield. The story is a romantic comedy written by Robert Kirkman about Renfield falling in love with a traffic cop played by Awkwafina. Dracula is barely in it.
It's probably to re-establish Dracula and slowly introduce him
>Renfield might have been mentioned more in the book, but focusing an entire movie around the man feels like something that could end up becoming a rather poor decision unless it leads to something in contemporary times that will not only make sense but will also herald something else that could be coming, something that will make sitting through Renfield worth it simply because it will serve as a prologue, a prequel of sorts, that will get people ready for what’s to come.
Renfield isn't even confirmed be in the same universe as The Mummy yet.
From the title font, that image of Nic Cage in costume, Nicolas Hoult and Awkwafina romance comedy, this movie seems like its going to be extremely campy and tongue in cheek Hotel Transylvania style humor.
I dont see it fitting in with Dark Universe and they tone they've already established.
>Renfield isn't even confirmed be in the same universe as The Mummy
Shame. I thought all these classic monsters were supposed to share the same universe. But... why would The Mummy profile post it then? If it's not even related.. This is confusing.
No. They cancelled crossover between Dracula Untold and Van Helsing. That's because Dracula Untold was officially rejected from Universal canon. It's not listed on Universal page, instead you can find it on Legendary website. Now Nic Cage is supposed to be their new Bela Lugosi. Ryan Gosling will be the Wolfman, Javier Bardem is still attached to classical Frankenstein monster figure.

Tone will change between movies but they are still going to take place in same settings. The Mummy was a traditional blockbuster and The Scorpion King is supposed to follow. The Invisible Man was a techno-thriller with a back drop for The Invisible Woman now. Renfield will be more comedic while The Wolfman is supposed to be a gorefest version of Nightcrawler. Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are supposed to be mid budget dramas transcending time from XIX to XXI century. The movies will follow own storylines however they are still going to feature some overlapping elements, possibly leading to now-postponed Dark Army.
This is just the same way they did it in 1940s. First they introduced separate monster franchises for Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy and Wolfman and then they finally connected them all together in House of Dracula and House of Frankenstein. They are doing the same now. Honestly if they pull this off this will be simply the best and most unique and interesting cinematic universe out of the bunch.
And Paul Mooney was giving hollywood shit for Tom Cruise in the last Samurai. They're literally making shows with black vikings and a homie with the last name Helsing. I got a movie, the whitest mother fricker in history staring Wesley Snipes.
>Zao
who cares this isn't even dark universal. its just another dracula like dozen others. like that recent BBC one or hammer films with christopher lee. its public domain so anyone can make dracula shit. what matters is THE universal one, you know iconic lugossi ;I don't drink wine; and I lope they get some older guy to play van helsing. cage can stay as drac because he does look like
The movie made 400 m at the box office which is more than Dracula Untold and Invisible Man all together (217 m, 140 m respectively) and had Tom's highest opening weekend until Top Gun beat it. So yeah it was quite successful despite what media want to say. I'm not even sure why they considered it a flop when these aren't bad numbers. I think most of phase 1 Marvel shit wasn't doing much better. Something is not right there, objectively speaking, of course.
>Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
One strike, not charismatic, not a good actor >van helsing
2 strikes for a remake nobody asked for >Chloe Zhao

>Dracula: You think you can destroy me with your idols? I who served the Cross, I who commanded nations, hundreds of years before you were born?!
>Van Helsing: Ay yo! You dun lost dat shit! Ya'll white motherfrickas enslaved my peeples!
>Dracula: I was betrayed by the patriarchy! Look what White Privilege has done to me!
>Van Helsing: No, homie! Your race is over, you gon pay for your crimes!
and everyone claps

I think the Mina Harker centered Dracula film was the only one that was officially cancelled (just weeks before filming was supposed to start).
I think Chloe Zao's film is still in the pipeline.

This could be kino if they get some good actors.
Liam Cunningham is the only one cast who I know will be good. Polka Dot guy from Suicide Squad is a bit hit and miss.
WE WUZ vampire HUNTERZ AN SHIETTTT
Why does this idiot keep playing NuCharaters, shitty versions of old beloved characters.
Was horrible as "Dr Manhattan". Horrendous as NuMorpheus. Terrible as Candyman. Now this. And they all flop. Wtf is this idiot doing?

Can't possibly be any worse than that fricking Tv show with fem Helsing.

Did anyone actually watch Cruise's Mummy, or did the poorly released trailer do it in?
