Kids don't know how lucky they have it nowadays. As a shitting 10 year old, I dreamed of watching a Captain Underpants film/Big Nate series. Granted I never saw a single episode of this series because the art style looks like dogshit
And I honestly think this show would've benefited more if it copied Lincoln's art style and in 2D. Just saying

Well they cant watch it anymore unfortunately for those who were fans of the show

What's really wild was that season 2 wasn't even finished airing all of its episode when it got pulled from Paramount+. There were 26 eps ordered and they only made it up to episode 18.

It hasn't been announced officially yet but me and a lot of my coworkers were let off when this suddenly happened. Big Nate Movie entered production last year, roughly half the animation was finished, and then we were just told they weren't going through with the show anymore and now I have to pack up my things and look for a new job. This is an old draft of the movie script, but now you probably won't get to see the hard work we put into making this at all. What a fricking mess this industry is. I also feel really bad for those people who worked on those finished episodes that might not even get seen now

Execs and BoDs are finally realizing that COVID numbers are unsustainable because people can go outside and talk to each other again. Also interest rates are going up so borrowing money isn't free anymore and DEI is getting enough bad press that it's becoming a deal-breaker for even moderate consumers.

Well unfortunately those "shithole" countries like China and India are on the upswing and make up an increasingly large proportion of the world population and economy, while "civilized" countries continue to decline in population and are forced to import people from said "shithole" countries (who, believe it or not, are ideologically similar to their countrymen back home, not white people).

Thats a general attitude. No one was able to point to exactly why until they started listening to the people had been b***hing about this stuff for the last 8 years.

Normies just tuned out the video essayists who were rightfully upset that Palpatine's progeny had usurped the franchise and even the name of the Skywalkers, but some of them are finally starting to realize how fricked up that is and they're starting to see the pattern in other media.

If you genuinely believe that you're writing then you honestly don't know what a normie truly entails. The average population audience member doesn't even know Palpatine's name despite watching the movies for the majority of their lifespan. They are the people who call Optimus Prime "Robobee"

No frick, you abject moron, but I'm speaking to an audience that DOES now creamy Sheev's real name. All people need to know is that the story they remember from so long ago, about good and evil and space and explosions, has been taken over by the Emperors granddaughter and she's better and flying than Han Solo and she's better at the Force than Luke Skywalker.

        1. They're either rotating content, or contemplating selling the streaming rights to these series to other streamers. There is no indication these shows are being written off.
        2. Having all content online all the time was always a pipe dream, because it costs money to keep them online, even when no one watches them, due to residuals. Probably costs more now after the writers/actor strikes.
        3. Paramount is having a cash crunch right now. In fact, their credit rating was downgraded to junk a few days ago by S&P. That means they can't borrow money at a good rate. That means they can't sell bonds.

        >Why do ceos and companies seemingly hate animation now?
When companies are in trouble and need to save money, they cut the small stuff, the dead weight, and the fluff first. That's what animation often is - small, dead weight, fluff.
In the past, animation got a pass because it was relatively cheap. Companies could throw things at the wall, experiment, and produce 20 shows in hopes they get a Spongebob on the 21st. Well it's not cheap anymore, and the hits are coming at an even lower frequency.
Most of you are lamenting shows you didn't watch, on a service you didn't pay for. To what end? Because you want to show solidarity with animators? The only way to do that is with money. If you're not willing, then it should be self-explanatory why these things are getting cancelled and getting pulled.

Why are people roleplaying as industry workers now? This script was leaked last summer in the "nick gigaleak" which was actually stuff that was being shared in private groups being publicly dumped to totally own the evil gatekeepers or whatever. A movie was never greenlit or put into production, only written and pitched. The actual reality of what's happening with Nate is maddening enough, they pulled the plug on the whole production in the middle of a 26 episode third season with half the episodes having had significant work done on them and animation coming back. Made all the more baffling by Nate being heavily used in Paramount+ marketing and the original Season 2 order of 10 episodes being extended twice - first by an additional 10 and then by an additional 6. A very similar situation has befallen Rugrats.

You can thank Alex Kurtzman. Seriously.
Paramount pinned all of its streaming hopes on the Star Trek franchise. They burned through over a billion dollars on it, I kid you not. Star Trek Discovery started at 7 million per episode in season 1, and that price tag has only gone up.
What did Kurtzman do with all this money? He made shows no one wanted to watch. The people working on these shows attacked fans who complained as bigots. Paramount banned people from their service and blocked youtubers on social media.
Take a step back and tell me if you see sane people here. These people are your bosses.

I don't know the answer. What I do know is that people are irrational, stupid, and have fricked up incentives, and these companies are ultimately run by people.
A common refrain in these animation industry threads is that executives hate animation. My question to those posters would be, what made you think they liked animation in the first place? What makes you think they like anything at all? That's the thing with these major studios. They make all kinds of products and services, more than any single person can care about. The top execs are not hired to care about things, they're hired to conduct business and delegate jobs to other people who, in theory, actually do care. Companies like Bad Robot actually care - they care to gobble up every legacy IP they could get their hands on and turn them into their own ideological platforms. They care about protecting the money coming from nerds. They care about deflecting all failures from themselves.
If any modern day studio CEO were an actual fan of movies, games, and animation, they would not have allowed most of this crap to be made. And that's why people like that do not become CEOs. The people who do make crap would do everything within their political power to keep such a person away from the top job.

There's something particularly eerie about how stuff that gets delisted off streaming is essentially evaporated.
Like, when old shows got cancelled they'd usually still get a half assed dvd release to try and recover some costs.
With fewer and fewer people torrenting, or even knowing how to torrent piracy is even hit or miss and based on pirate streaming sites that could go down or people circulating mega links.
A lot of stuff created from about 3-4 years ago on is gonna completely vanish into the wind, and at least some of that content was probably worth preserving.

I genuinely hope (though I wouldn’t bet on it) that the very big disc (https://www.pcgamer.com/researchers-have-developed-a-very-big-disctm-that-can-store-up-to-200-terabytes-of-data-and-may-represent-a-return-to-optical-media-for-long-term-storage/) enters mass production and causes a resurgence in physical media again. Streaming and online service subscription numbers would probably have to get super low first.
At the very least, I’d like it if some company started a purchasing service for their streaming original shows that get taken down. “Oh, we cancelled your favorite show? Pay $29.99 to get the Disney+ USB Stick™ with the complete show delivered to you”
