We have 4 day work weeks but you still need to reach 40 hrs anyway, so many work 4/10s that just end up being 4/12

Yes it does there are plenty of people who work 4 day weeks over 5 day weeks, but working 4 day weeks doesnt mean you work less hours then those who work 5 day weeks. The best schedule is a nurse schedule 3/12 hr shifts then 4 days off, there has to be a percentage of people who became a nurse just to have that schedule

Nurse here. 12 hour shifts are primarily for ICU/ER/post op and you are constantly going and on your feet helping fricked up people. There is no sit on your ass and diddle your phone for 4 hours collecting pay. And usually its 4 days on 3 off. It gets tiring real quick.

Every one gets 3 days off. I think the biggest issue is only having 2 days off.

I work 8 hours and spend another hour or more waiting for and riding the city bus. So that's 9 hours of the day burnt. I wake up a few hours before my shift to get ready, so like 11 hours or HALF THE DAY spent working or getting ready to work. When I get off I have 4 hours before I need to sleep so I can do it again. No car, worked all day, no way do I want to go out. So I don't, ever unless invited and even then.
On days off I have to run errands, and honestly I just don't want to be social on the two days a week I have to myself.

Germans generally have a decent work ethic, but the whole working overtime stuff was more of a boomer thing where a lot of older people grew up thinking "I live to work so I might as well put in the extra hours". I'm no boomer, but sometimes a job requires me to do overtime but yeah people are fed up with bullshit work here.

I think work ethic means doing a job well, as long as it takes. Working 14 hour shifts just to reach a deadline doesn't mean the result will be good and often guarantees it won't be.

              Anonymous

Work ethic also means thinking outside the box and not just being focused on your explicit task, you're expected to consider your coworkers and do what you can to make their job easier/less tedious, as well as everyone else does for you. This means prepping/doing things that may not strictly be required of you but are very appreciated by your peers.

Which usually works fine if you have a company of white people. I worked in companies with 50% non-whites and everyone just did the bare minimum without giving a shit about everyone else (no cleaning up, no prepping for tomorrow, no communication etc) and it fricking sucked.

All the replies about boomers and Protestants are mindlessly repeating things they've heard from others. They're very likely middle class suburbanites with little real world experience.
The actual reason is that people who don't work tend to become parasites who vote for more parasitism. If you can support yourself without a job, no one cares. Most people can't build their own house, produce their own electricity, grow their own food, etc so they need to pay others to do that for them. Without a job, they need someone else to pay all of that for them. That's fine if they have a trust fund but most people don't. I personally think there should be a system in place that is like a UBI but with limits, and one of the qualifications is you need to work a minimum of 20 to 25 hr weeks to get the LBI (Limited Based Income) another is if you make 50k or less a year you qualify. Would you be against an LBI if there were limit in place? Or dp you simply have the same ol American mind set of
        >If I have to do it so should they!!!
Even though you could benefit from this

          Anonymous

Nowhere that has ever tried UBI has stuck with it. In theory I could agree with it if they removed most other welfare programs so people can choose what to spend their money on instead if just getting a check on top of other benefits.

            Anonymous

This is not an UBI but an LBI it is limited in scope and not universally given. You have to meet the limits or you wont get the LBI. Dont want to work? Fine but you need to work some to get the LBI. Saying stuff like
            >Well then people would choose to get 50k or less a year jobs, whats the motivation?
If people in droves decided to kick their current job that pays over 50k a year to get one that pays less than 50k to be in the LBI acceptance window, wouldn't that show force companies to take better care of their workers then?
            >Yeah could leave to get the LBI but we off these great benefits that are actually better then just getting a check once a month
LBI is a great option that should replace pretty much all other forms of government assistance, it forces people to work, no work, no LBI

The cost of eating anywhere here has skyrocketed in the last couple years but I don't mind going out once a week or so. Crazy that going anywhere that isn't a national chain will cost you like $40 for lunch for two these days, but from what I've seen online we're still doing WAY better than the west coast in terms of cost inflation.
For fast food I've had the best luck with whatever places hire the most Mexicans lol. I had to take a 6 week program where I had basically memorize a 5 page scripts, so I can pass a pre trip portion, then spend time learning the skills portion which isnt hard, then learning how to drive the rig which again wasnt hard, had to learn stick shift so my license doesnt have restrictions based on it (even though every job Ive had since has had an automatic) But this was the community college route which is the better option to get a CDL then going to a major carrier and signing a contract forcing you to stay with them for a year or 2 or be forced to pay them back if you leave early. While im an exceptional driver, no accidents, know how to read the road, and so on, I just do not like driving any more, and transitioning from a driver to any other job is impossible, my only way out is to ge a degree because no one gives me the time of day once they see my resume, but Ill have a call back in 30 minutes if I apply to a driving job.

And they ALWAYS have at least one Black person mother with her disgusting annoying Black person babies crying or being obnoxiously loud in some other way. And buses are almost always either too late or too early. Frick buses.

Just make stuff you don't have to be very attentive to while cooking. Pilafs, stews, soups, are all very much "brown meat, add vegetables, add water/rice, cover, reduce heat, and set a timer. Should be like MAX 15 min prep/cook time then just set an alarm and you can watch tv or however you choose to unwind. There are huge volumes of one-pan recipes out there.

I cannot recommend enough an Instant Pot. I told my c**t girlfriend, I'm not cooking ANYTHING that isn't "throw everything in one pot and press one button." She said get an Instant Pot. It literally just works.

The only thing is if you want meat. Then, all you have to do is add that you cook the meat on a stove burner beforehand or alongside the Instant Pot cooking. Or, do like I did, and get a George Foreman grill for $60.

Every night I basically just get home, toss rice + a few vegetables + some spices + maybe some sliced baby potatoes in the Instant Pot, hit literally one button (Pressure Cook, since it remembers 3 minutes for rice as the default time), and if I want meat I throw it on the Foreman, which takes 4 minutes to preheat and 7 minutes to cook the meat. There are other just as lazy ways to cook the meat, including microwave or stovetop pan. When the Instant Pot is done, I dump the meat onto the rice/vegetable medley, dump some $2 sauce on there, and eat. Whole process takes 5 minutes with very little oversight.

For people who don't actively enjoy cooking, this is the ideal in my opinion.

You people are so bitter. Genuinely enraged at the thought you have to provide someone value in exchange for money.

Its really hard to side with millennials when they talk about boomers because its quite clear that youre both just as self serving, short sighted and selfish. The only difference is that boomers lived through a prosperous time, while you work a shit 9-5 and use your free time to call other anonymous people incels. Boomers get the luxury of acting like they do, but you dont. Thats whats wild to me, is that the crux of boomer criticism isnt that they're morally abhorrent, but that you as millennials and gen z cant afford to be as morally abhorrent as them.

Prosperity dulls the soul, thats to be expected. But a hard time should at least help the lot of you, and im referring to the people I see on instagram, twitter, what have you too, grow some fricking backbone, but even that has been robbed by Im guessing porn, drugs and videogames. Ironically, youre far too comfortable living in filth.

That’s begging the question. America doesn’t pay twice as much as Europe by not offering social services, it pays more because it’s a center of innovation and prosperity, which is not incompatible with giving workers more time off and more medical security. In fact, as a small business owner, I would rather have potential future employees not come to me for their healthcare

I place the blame on the worker that this is allowed. Americans have a bad crab mentality that doesnt allow them to progress, that just want everyone is the same miserable boiling water as them. 8hr days only became a thing because people finally got tired of working 10-12 hour shifts 6 days a week in horrible conditions, they rose up together and made a difference, and thats all we need to do as well, but there are so many americans who will cross their arms and shake their head at the idea of Americans having a work/life balance.

I once filed my taxes in a year when I made no income, because I wasn't working, in order to get a rent refund of a few hundred dollars. The state didn't audit me as such, but they were very suspicious of my return (I had made a minor clerical error in one spot which made it look like I had taken one dollar of welfare, which I didn't. This was the tax software's fault and I had failed to check it). They (understandably) demanded a very detailed review of my financials before they'd give me the refund.

I proudly replied with a hyper-autistic letter, in which I provided everything that they asked for (something like 30 pages worth of material), and underlined that "I did not find or seek employment" for the entirety of the year, and instead lived entirely on my own savings for the tax year. I just plain didn't feel like working, and I didn't have to. So I didn't.

I got my refund. I was always rather proud of that little piece of work. Not for the money, but more for the principle of the thing. The idea of confronting them with the highly unusual case of some autist who has (had, I was pissing it away after all) his own money, and knows how to follow detailed instructions independently. For two glorious years I was a NEET on my own dime. During that time I rediscovered my love of art museums, recreational mathematics, reading, and driving the local grid. When the money was almost gone I easily found work and have kept the job ever since, and happily it is agreeable to myself.

Although I did mention "hobbies" (you have a valid point there, I suppose), I wasn't really concerned with the post I was replying to. I just wanted to express my own self-satisfaction. I enjoyed two years of NEET-dom where I did exactly what I wanted to do, and easily found work when I deemed it necessary. I've been debt free for over fifteen years (the idea that you have to assume debt at all is a cardinal failing of the normie mind), have a little money, and a decent retirement savings. I do exactly as I please pretty much all the time, and I am generally happy with my situation. I feel very fortunate that I do not live anywhere near the continents of Asia or Africa.

If this makes me a deranged sperg, then I seem to be doing reasonably well in life as a deranged sperg.

Why? Do you wanna go to Reddit where they can tell you it's all your attitude that's the problem and looks and wider social factors play no substantial role in it?

My life is fricking falling apart in reality just as I become most successful on paper, by normie standards I am an enviable success but I am becoming some kind of schizo hoarder frogman just beneath the surface

it's probably easy to tell, fake happiness is consistently correlated to passive aggressiveness.

    >32 years old
    >wake up alone because kissless virgin
    >go to job where ive wasted my entire life, barely speak the entire time, all i think about is killing myself and how ashamed i am
    >commute is by subway where i speak to no one
    >go home (not my home, my parents home, because i live with them, because im a pathetic loser)
    >be at home in my room doing nothing speaking to no one
    >only time i do any socializing really is on the weekends if im doing my sports, otherwise i sit in my room alone
    >cant even try to meet people because of the shame i have for my life

i dont know how its possible for someone to turn out as avoidant and uncaring about their own life as mine is. i have completely nonexistent self esteem, i know i will fail at anything i ever try just like i have for my entire life. i dont deserve any happiness. i deserve to be miserable. i need to commit suicide.

ive considered maybe i should just become a neet, then tell my parents to send me to a psychiatric ward, see if someone can help me, maybe therapy or cbt or medication, then maybe i can make something of my worthless life.

      >i dont know how its possible for someone to turn out as avoidant and uncaring about their own life as mine is
You say that because you don't know people, but it's not that uncommon. It's very easy to swerve off the "golden path" and get stuck in a rut or bad habits. The world is full of that sort of thing. Alcoholics that drown themselves in drink and alienate everyone. Drug addicts. Deathfats. Or people get unlucky and get some horrible disability and that's it, their one life will just kinda suck. When you put it all together that is a LOT of people especially these days. This is why some people like cops or emergency responders will get really jaded, you don't see those people on instagram, but they do all the time.
There is a reason why so much of religion is talking about how flawed people are. A lot of the social tech that tried to keep people on the path got destroyed, too. You're not really meant to have to face these things alone. Not telling you how to fix it, just telling you you're not as abnormal as you might think.

Paramedicine/nursing is a popular midwife crisis career where I live, although the caveat is you have to be kinda resilient and able to project being functional and stable under stress. But you do sports on the weekend which I suspect is way more of a positive about your life than you suspect.

Don't hate yourself anon. You deserve happiness, but life isn't fair. There's no reason to be ashamed about things you have very limited control over.

I wonder what people who are handless+kissless virgins look like IRL.

Like... what are you like that you haven't gotten any female attention at all in your life at least once?

We can look pretty normal. The situation is usually more complicated than just plain old ugliness. A lot of it is behavioral. For example, I am more or less incapable of flirtation. It's not that I don't know how to do it, I just find it extremely uncomfortable.

I'm pretty ugly and awkward. I got called a creep/stalker/rapist a lot even though I'm a timid coward and afraid of women.

I look average, it's mostly the isolation. I went to a trade school which was a sausage fest, studied engineering in college-also a sausage fest. Spent half of my studies online due to covid. The friend group just fell apart after that because we all live pretty far away from one another. Now I'm looking for a job and hopefully I get to make a new group of friends there.

you can all make it anons, I believe in you and you're more capable than you give yourself credit for. you can't change what you've done with the time before now but you can still change where you go from here, so go out, get a job, meet people, get laid. the worst thing that happens if you try is that it doesn't work out and if it doesn't, you just try again - what is there to lose?

That's such a naive thing to say. Failing miserably time and time again wears you down. Willpower is a finite resource.

      >or study something fulfilling
I did this and it's just jumping through endless hoops until you finally get a chance to study the thing you actually want. Then you realize there are 2000 other candidates for the same program, from universities much more highly ranked than yours, and you're just shit out of luck.

Everything is so hypercompetitive and gay. I don't want to compete with Chang and Patel for opportunities in my own country anymore. I'd rather just be jobless, live off benefits, and study what I want on my own time. It's the same as being a student but without the humiliation rituals.

Work is pretty much the only thing I get going post college and probably my biggest escapism. Not the most gruesome 40 hours, occasional burnout but it is fine. Managed to stay emotionally stable without any social interaction or commitment for 2 years, not doing very well lately though lol. Films are my new found escapism.

I wish I could be a normie. I feel a lot like Rust. A lot of trauma in my life and it’s pushed back my development. I’m getting old. I feel like I’m on my last chance and I have no idea how to get where I want to go which is a family and a house. Feels bad man.
