Nobody thinks Lake Mungo is a perfect movie. It is not even a great movie. However, it is a good movie.

Nobody thinks Lake Mungo is a perfect movie. It is not even a great movie. However, it is a good movie. This is objectively true.

People who like Lake Mungo:
>intelligent, thoughtful, passionate, analytical, patient, level-headed, and are the best posters on Cinemaphile
>appreciate that it had a story that is supernatural but feels like it could actually happen in real life.
>can have discussions about many movies because they don't need explosions in their face to enjoy a movie and actually enjoy the story and the characters involved
>tend to have the best chance at becoming actual filmmakers, as Lake Mungo has garnered the acclaim of many filmmakers who actually work in the film industry and have gone on record as saying Lake Mungo is worth seeing.
>will enjoy discussing the movie ITT and will recommend more movies like Lake Mungo because it was one of those movies that you are pleasantly surprised to find and you want to find other movies like it out there in the independent film industry
>are inspired by Lake Mungo to create other movies that don't need a huge budget to tell a story that really connects to people and stays with them years after they have seen it.
>are literally the best found footage fans out there and they have excellent taste in found footage.
People who HATE Lake Mungo
>ignorant, superficial, impatient, emotionally stunted, addicted to movies with explosions, gore or special effects
>are addicted to porn and slasher films with jizz or blood flying everywhere and they literally call such movies as Terrifier 2 "kino"
>will attack this thread viciously because they can't believe somebody liked Lake Mungo
>are the absolute WORST posters on Cinemaphile and should leave immediately
>will never become filmmakers but will always be consumers of the worst kind of slop out there
>think that found footage is horrible but they watch capeshit and discuss only mainstream slop because it is all that captures their limited attention

I think it's a very solid movie. One of my favorite horror movies, and one of my favorite examples of found footage.
Not a fan of the unnecessary shot towards slasher films though. If you don't like slashers then I don't agree with you just as much as I don't agree with the Lake Mungo/found footage haters.

there's good slashers like halloween 1978 and there's bad slashers like terrifier

I enjoy both of those, moreso Terrifier 2 than Terrifier 1 though. And best Halloween sequel is Halloween 4, which Terrifier 2 reminded me of and was probably taking inspiration from with the costume store stuff.
Slashers are comfykino just like found footage is.

I liked it the first time I watched it. Years later, I watched it again, forgetting that I already watched it, and I liked it again.

I really like Lake Mungo, the only horror mockumentary I can say that for. Australian films have a certain placid quality to them, it’s hard to put my finger on it exactly. Like they are images that come out of the heat and stillness of the desert. They have restraint. If an American director remade this it would be laughably bad.

Yeah but PT does to the extent that it was rightly deemed not good enough for a theatrical release.

Watched it recently. Did not expect threesome.
Anyway it was bretty good though I had a few misgivings about convenient 'we left the camera running' moments to justify us having footage to see. Felt a bit clumsy.

6/10 as a feature length film. It would be improved significantly by being edited down to an hour-long horror anthology episode.
