I’m more of a To Boldly Flee guy but this was good too
Roger Ebert thought it was a masterpiece
I want to frick that cat thing
Of course!
Kickassia is his best 'complete' film.
To Boldly Flee is second-best - solid but let down by the inexcusable runtime.
Suburban Knights is the worst - it's too long and also has the highest proportion of unfunny jokes, particularly the painfully unfunny original characters.
I kinda wish the rain didn't stop while filming and the just went with the murder mystery at NCs house backup plan instead of Suburban Knights.
I watch the Channel Awesome movies on repeat while painting Warhammer, it's just good background noise. Linkaras movie is by far the worst, it has the most coherent story but his autism just made it soulless.
The only thing I remember from suburb knights was Douge flashing the camera in his tighty whiteys. I wish I had a pic of that.
Lindsay Ellis doing Sarah Palin jokes in like 2010 was certainly a choice
Buck status?
Alot better than Luke
>Doug wouldn't let Lidsay go to starbucks for coffee
>"Reee they were denying us water"
The whole change the channel document was hillarious because it fell apart at the slightest of scrutiny.
Has a youtuber ever made an objectively good film or miniseries project? I mean something that can just be described in positive terms without qualifiers such as "you'll like it if you're already a fan" or "it's decent if you have nothing better to watch"
Yes
I sat through To Boldly Flee 10 times and this movie made me want to put a shotgun shell to my head
It would only take one viewing for me to get to that point.
Iron Liz, the great Iron Liz
Great work ethic.
Throw him out in the cold, dont give him his jacket.
First troony I noticed in these circles. Little did I know how common it would become.
Surprised shes a Trump supporter and that is why she got kicked out of that circle.
That's actually pretty funny.
>kicked out of that circle
That age of Channel Awesome effectively ended about 2 years before the 2016 election even happened
>effectively
Its still going on friendo and its not like the rats didnt talk to each other after they all left. Liz said in an interview that when the election came up that Linkara and that whole ilk shunned her when she supported trump
Didn't she go away because Linkara broke up with her when she got rid of her penis?
She was still friends with them up until the election according to her. Check out a YT channel called "theallmightye-girl" and he interviewed liz when he was shitting on Linkaras movie.
?feature=shared
Do you think it was Linkara who got her fired? Remember Liz wouldn’t let him suck his pp and Linkara is a self admitted nasty wiener bawd. Her voting for Drumph must’ve set him over the edge
Not really. The Ashens ones come closest to being 'good' and the professionalism in the filming is a cut above stuff like Channel Awesome. But at the end of the day it's still a bunch of amateur Youtuber guys doing homebrewed skits so it's not going to be on par with stuff done by most professional comedians.
Closest thing I can think of is Talk to Me.
Would Starcade by JonTron count? It has real production value and is very good. It was funded by Disney too as far as I know.
The line between "youtuber film/series" and high quality long videos is blurred to the point of it being just semantics.
Fictional OC is usually cringe on youtube, but documentary-type stuff can be kino.
For me it's the dry humor balding lava lamp guy https://youtu.be/3-dptkIZ7tI?si=ycM9OoI4gw67jrB1
Derrek Comedy made Mystery Team
Is Doug a better filmmaker than James "No Time" Rolfe? I'm always seeing people talking about Doug's work (ironically or not) but people rarely bring up James' movie.
It was kinda shit, but I love James too much to shit on it. It's easier to laugh at all the spergs in the channel awesome movie.
It came out at the tail end of when those sorts of movie projects were popular. Also the idea of putting the AVGN character into a conventional narrative never appealed to me at all.
Bimmy is a better filmmaker. Doug still doesn't know how to light a shot for shit. It's frankly embarrassing when you realize a teenager today can probably shoot a few shots that look nicer than To Boldly Flee.
Now that the dust has settled, can we agree on why it looked like Vegas?
Why did Doug and his brother get lazier with every movie? Went from filming in the desert to filming around their neighbourhood to filming in their basement.
I assume they got burnout because they refused to do much delegating and it ended up with them trying to organise and fly and house and feed all these whingeing unprofessional nerds around the country on top of their day job of producing several regular shows.
That makes sense. You'd think they'd start small and try to cajole and organise all these autists around suburban Chicagoland and then if that goes well try to get more ambitious
You try wrangling that many spergs at once. You have like 5 days with the full crew before they all need to leave, so planning any filming outside is heavily reliant on weather. Suburban Knights got fricked by weather and they had a lot of passerbys yelling in the background to ruin shots.
The answer is right in front of you if you look at the films
The Channel Awesome crowd got larger and it would be a logistical nightmare to coordinate things so that everyone could fly out to another location. Having it in Chicago lowered costs because it meant some of the core people (Doug, Rob, etc) already lived there and don't need a hotel.
Technically they did start out with Chicago. The first large crossover wasn't Kickassia, it was the TGWTG Brawl, with AVGN in it.
Kickassia clears
The fourth Channel Awesome anniversary movie was going to be Spoony in blackface playing a new character called "The Coony One" and his nemesis would be Linkara with his face painted yellow and eyes pulled back ("Chinkara"), but the execs decided that Doug's vision was too bold and it was cancelled shortly after filming.
>Hello I am Chinkara, the adopted brother of Linkara
>You know I have my own catchphrase I've been working on, "built for black wiener!"
What was going to be Lindsay Ellis' role?
Lindsay's fervent hatred of asians prevented her from having a role in the film
I had a genuine laugh at the spoony fight
