Also, arguably the worst ending to any show ever, good lord.

  5. 2 years ago

For the ride, yes. For the conclusion, no. It seemed like people involved were divided on whether there could be additional seasons vs killing him, so they shot and included a bunch of scenes hinting at further plot threads that, sadly, can't happen. So it feels a bit meandering and sloppy.
Also pic related is possibly the most moronic moment in the entire series

Is it true that Dexter is just living in some town? Some cringe female true crime podcasters figure it all out and track him down. Nothing much happens. Then Harrison shows up and some stuff happens with a worse ending than the original series?

      Anonymous

True crime podcaster doesn't track him down, and doesn't expose him. She's there to investigate the season's other serial killer villain.
It's a glaring plot hole that she doesn't expose Dexter, though, because she's familiar with what happened in Miami and should have recognized Dexter's face.

      >worse ending than the original series

      LOL.

It's lower than the original finale

How do these morons manage to frick it up this bad? They completely demolish the last season and rape the whole show with the finale. Fast forward years later, you’re given a do-over, with a huge fanbase revival that everyone is talking about, and you fail even harder after hearing all the negative feedback from the first failure. It’s astounding how much jackassery went into accomplishing this.

        Anonymous

Because anyone still watching past the trainwreck that was season 5 was a moron anyway. The moment Dexter became "le superhero" his character and the show was ruined.

The only people who hate New Blood are these dumb fans who legitimately thought seasons 5-7 were good. Unfortunately this was a good proportion of the fanbase. I'm not sure any "prestige" show ever catered so heavily to morons in its concept. Maybe Breaking Bad and The Sopranos, but those shows stayed good the whole way through, so we'll never know the extent of it.

Dexter should've ended with season 5 after Rita's death drove him off the deep end and the walls closed in, but New Blood is a satisfactory alternative.

      THIS. It sucks.

And Miami/FL was an intricate aspect of the show, set up the whole feel; was probably the best part of the show besides Dexter.

And they blew that all out of the water setting NEW BLOOD in a super dreary rural hick part of New York State. just lost all the feel of the original show.

          >leaving his son

Lol She was basically Batista’s sister’s kid, he barely even saw the little bastard. He was a better dad to astor and cody.
But his lifestyle ended up with dead deb and so many other casualties in his life. Only option was to anhero, that failed so just isolate himself forever.

Copium. His character was fricked already in S6 when he AGAIN tries to orbit around a killer (Travis) instead of just taking him out. Although he already learned from the ending of S4 that it doesnt end well. He also spends all this time becoming more human and reducing his need to kill, then throws it all out at the end.
          >Only option was to anhero, that failed
It didnt fail, he just didnt even try. They show him going directly into the storm (which should kill him) but instead its just him faking his death, somehow. The ending is shit.

Yep, I don't know why people are so butthurt about the ending. It (finally) completes his dramatic arc and fits thematically with the first four seasons, thanks to bringing back the old showrunner Clyde Phillips. 1-4 + New Blood is actually a pretty decent show. You don't even have to watch 5-8, you can just pretend they didn't happen and assume Dexter had to bail after Rita's demise. There are still a few moronic plot holes in NB, and they really needed a couple more episodes to make the climax satisfying -- ten isn't enough for a Dexter season -- but overall it pulled the show from the trash heap of television history.

I'd recommend seasons 1-4 + New Blood to anyone now, whereas before I would've just said to stop after season 4. Finally the character got the ending he deserved.

My ranking: 1>2>4>3>NB (astronomic power gap) > 5-8

Some female "supercop" who has known him for a short amount of time somehow figures out he's the killer and immediately gets closer to catching him than anyone because of her "hunches." The only good part is her daughter is a smoke show but I suspect the whole was just some last-second cash grab which always does so well. Pic related is the daughter

Anyone who spends more than a few days around Dexter should instantly figure out that he's a serial killer. Luckily, everyone around him in the first 8 seasons was written to be moronic except Doakes who also figured it out with him just by simply observing him.

Seasons 5-7 is were the show went from "slightly hammy but fun" into complete self parody, but they were too cowardly to actually go through with it. The cop and the true crime chick ruined it for me. Otherwise I didn't think it was horrible. Mr. Krabs and Dexter did a great job with what they were working with. Harrison having the letter and knowing all along was gay though. It made his whiny bullshit even more insufferable.

Harrison was kinda bratty and lame.
There should've been way more characters from the old show.

The code was always cope, he was a monster that tried to control himself with it. That’s the dumbest part of the reboot. They retread all this ground already covered in the real show.

When he started raising female serial killer 2.0, had to deal with that one church guy, and Deb got horny knowing he was killing people I was basically tapping out mentally.
