Yes. Dobson has some weird infatuation with the Saturday Morning Cartoon versions of Nintendo characters. The Peach and Mario are pretty dumbshit obviously based on the ones from Super Mario Super Show, which if I'm gonna be real he's kinda exaggerating the 'Popeye Arms' thing a bit.

Is Dobson having Bugs Bunny say that he, Bugs, is not a furry? (Unlikely; Bugs is one of the original furry characters.) Or is it Dobson speaking through Bugs saying that he, Dobson, is not a furry? I lean towards the latter but it is a total failure in clarity.

I don’t give a frick about sports, but if you show me a football game I can tell you the basics of what is going on. Dobson instead takes a hardline stance against all sports and feels a need to act superior to people who do like sports, which just makes him come off as an obnoxious, elitist moron

                NTA, but:

                >11 players per team, but typically only 7 on the field each
It's 11 players on the field, one goalie and 10 field players. Plus reserve players on the bench. If a team has less than 11 players it means something went wrong. Most likely one got sent off with a red card.
                >you can only use your feet to touch the ball (head is okay sometimes); touching it with your hands is a penalty
Pretty much any part of the body except hands/arms is allowed. Head, chest, knees, etc.
                >penalties are noted by red and yellow flags
                Cards, not flags.
                >goal is protected by a goalie who CAN touch the ball with their hands, but can only occupy a limited amount of the field
The goalkeeper can leave his area, but he can't use his hands when he does this. This is often called a rush goalie or a flying goalie. This kind of play is never done in serious games since it leaves the goal wide open, but it's not against the rules.

                >Is there anything else major?
It's not super major, but around here it's commonly said that you can tell if someone is only pretending to like soccer by asking them to explain what offside means.

Damn; I guess I knew enough to "get" what's going on, but not enough to really enjoy what's going on. Like how someone can understand that football is about running a ball to the end of the field, but actually knowing positions and what they can do makes it much more exciting.

I like the twists with the characters that it does. Cloud is a grumpy cliche, it makes a mockery of him (cross-dressing comedy quest), he goes all emo with headaches and flashbacks, and then it turns out he's just a whiny homosexual who needs to get over himself. It was just a personality flaw he had to get rid of, not something meaningful sufffering thing.

It's just a fun and well balanced RPG. I"m not saying it's perfect, but by PS1 standards it's really good and I never see that talked about.

It's always "story, story, story." and never anything about how it's just fun to play.

Play the other Square rpg on PS1 and you will understand.
FF8 and Xenogears are a mess altough on paper should had been better, FF9 have a nice story but gameplay wise they try to play it too safe and the combat is slow as frick so all the gimmick (a fourth member, stealth, Trance) failed
SaGa Frontier I think is the only one that play as fast as FF7 and Chrono Cross's gimmick work as well as FF7 (The problem with cross is that the story is garbage outside some brilliant moments like Harleen)

Ranma 1/2 and Slayers, judging from their obvious influence on his work.

Slayers is bascially a D&D comedy so it's a little ironic he doesn't understand it, but it's not like you need to understand that aspect to enjoy it.

I'm a huge Slayers fan, by some wild coincidence. Used to have some of the translated light novels and manga (pity they stopped translating the LNs). It's pretty fricking funny that he loves it so much when it was literally just based on the writer's DnD sessions. I think there's even an official DnD based around the Slayers universe now.

Definitely see more of Rumiko Takahashi in his work though. A poor imitation, mind you, but it was very much there even to the day he left. Feels more inspired by Lum than Ranma though.

Seems like he misread his audience, or didn't bother to read them at all. It's unlikely you're going to blow people away with retro anime. It's something people need to either seek out on their own or be in the right mindset.

It's a really abrupt break, but I think the idea is to make things seem more chaotic and loud by having things switch over to the middle of an argument between the car guy and the small fat guy in the same room as the others. It would have been better if they had set the two up in the background instead of having some randos to make it clearer.

Isn't this comic describing something that happened when he was in college? He looks slimmer and with more hair. Iria (1994) probably wasn't very old at all.

He wrote something elaborating on this; he ran this anime club and had re-played things for lack of new material. If this was happening in the '90s it'd be before easy downloads of endless "digisubs" and maybe he legitmately had trouble finding enough stuff to show. Because of this the club starting razzing on whatever was playing. You can hardly blame them for trying to make their own fun when they've already seen everything before. If they got into a habit like this maybe they started doing it even when they got shown something new. Dobson is silly to take it personally.

It’s a pretty common thing to see when someone only has a very narrow knowledge about something. He only knows a handful of manga titles, so he had to default to one he knew even though it makes the comic make no sense. We see it again

The EMH is one of the best characters on Voyager. An original idea, usually well written, played by a good actor who goes the extra mile to sell the role. Then again, this is a near-universal opinion when it comes to Voyager, so pretending you're in the minority for it is kinda bullshit.

Also, it's not that people are opposed to Samus having emotions; its that the game play stunk and having her curl up into a ball and cry when Ridley comes back is fricking stupid. Yes, she can have a PTSD moment; but make her reaction be going into maniac kill mode and endanger the crew that way.

Ironically, Other M took a lot of inspiration for that moment from the Metroid manga, which also had Samus break down and cry after meeting Ridley and having to be rescued by her friends.
The difference is though, in the manga, she was 15, not even supposed to be there, assumed Ridley was dead, had just watched Ridley kill her surrogate father and he was actively taunting her about how he was going to eat her alive. Plus, she'd spent the last fourteen chapters bonding with her rescuers. Then the next two chapters are her talking to Chozo ghosts about how she must overcome her fears and become the protector of the galaxy they know she can be.
By Other M, hasn't Samus killed Ridley, like, five times?

This, Dobson was in the wrong here because he imagined a scenario where he would defend a woman who didn't need/want to be defended. This comic wouldn't be memed nearly as hard if it wasn't this sad.

He wasn’t just disappointed that they weren’t reading it- he had locked it behind a paywall and was very specifically disappointed he wasn’t making any money from it. Yes, the only people reading it were lolcow farmers who were hate reading it to laugh at him, and that was the “wrong crowd,” but in doing so, they were leaking the comic and distributing it amongst themselves for free as another frick you to him.

I think he might have gone longer if only they were paying the admission he wanted to charge. I actually wonder if even before that, he had secretly resolved that this was gonna be his last attempt to make money from his art and that if it didn’t work out he was gonna pack it in. He didn’t even get that far in the story- he had spent a lot of time bumbling around and setting up exposition and had only been just about to introduce the actual premise and hook when he stopped. He quite possibly had drawn a lot past there (he had said as much but could have been lying), and didn’t even bother to post it.

He attended and held a booth at some cons, but I don’t think we even know that the photograph is from any of the cons he went to. And, even if he did, as crazy unlikely as it may seem, it is still totally possible there was a lookalike to him also at that con. Probably more than one, actually. Fedoras were more popular then.

The fact the photo even exists and was discovered and connected to him without having to be faked (which I also don’t think is totally ruled out) is already a massive coincidence.

            Anonymous

Even if it's just a massive coincidence, I still think it's real simply because of the PG cosplayer. Only a pathetic coward like Dobson would imagine a situation where he's not only the hero but also gets to assault a guy who has a girlfriend, or is at least charming enough to get photos from good looking girls. Power fantasies aren't inherently bad, but you can still be a huge homosexual about them.

Legitimate question, cons are public events, right? And no one has a right to privacy in public, right? Of course, trying to snap upskirt pics or getting right in peoples face is an issue, but why do cosplayers believe they are entitled to not have their picture taken?

Many years ago, I witnessed some girls streaking at one in the morning in my neighborhood. I could barely see them, but I could tell they were doing that. I surprised them by turning my light on, & overheard one of the boys (who lived in the neighborhood with his college roommates) asking her if she was embarrassed.

No she wouldn’t, she is prostitute that posts nudes online

Yeah, that's kind of how streaking on a dare works. You hope nobody sees you, if they do, you're embarrassed. Streaking and cosplaying are not the same thing. Perhaps you should talk to a professional about this.

I will argue though there is a difference between getting ogled and some rando getting handsy. Also on the cosplayer's side, there's dudes getting too familiar with you, and "I am SHOCKED that creepy dudes are following me, when all I'm doing is going around a geek convention with my whole ass and breasts hanging out."
I don't know who the cosplayer is or what exactly they're trying to say, but I do know there are plenty of crazy people out there that will dogpile you for victim blaming if you call someone out for being an idiot.

IIRC, New York Comicon set this rule up because of dudes were getting mad that they couldn't take pictures of girls specifically to grope them and were getting hostile about it. Even if they leave the con-space, running up behind someone and squeezing their exposed underboob in public is considered sexual assault.

Well no shit, but lots of con bawds think that they are entitled to not have their picture taken when they walk out to their car. Sorry b***h, you are in public and it’s my right to preserve shots of your underboob

You know that most lewd cosplayers have hotel rooms specifically AT or connected to convention venue explicitly because walking outside in outfits like that counts as public indecency in most places, right? Most of them aren't walking to the ass end of a parking lot dressed like this.

Ronny is self aware that he's an unlikeable loser with dumb opinions and a failure to mature. Dobson is not aware of any of that and seems to even believe that he's special and unique somehow.

what's sad is that dobson always seems to have some ideas that could genuinely work, but he either doesn't seem to grasp what makes something good or he hates what could make something good and changes it to throw something else at the wall and see what sticks

    >So You're a Cartoonist
this comic could genuinely work if you tweak it a bit. maybe make it similar to dilbert, but for artists. hell, I thought he struck gold with the old man character

    >Alex Ze Pirate
this is pretty much unsalvageable as a comedy because dobson isn't funny. get a writer and stop just copying anime

    >Danny and Spot
stop making these some weird revenge about how much you hate the ps3 and 360 and you could have a decent comic. maybe do something wholesome about two bros bonding over video games, but they just have different interests, and I could see this one working

    Nice, thanks.

Yeah, that's kind of how streaking on a dare works. You hope nobody sees you, if they do, you're embarrassed. Streaking and cosplaying are not the same thing. Perhaps you should talk to a professional about this.

    Sounds like textbook hypocrite behavior.

I saw him posted here for years and never made the connection until one day I was scrolling a thread and thought to myself, “hah I knew a dude exactly like that”. Also, it's just so on the nose. Not trying to be one of those Cinemaphile people that deletes all the words in a comic, but we saw a blue bear in a fedora with a baseball bat getting ready to attack him in the second panel. The third panel doesn't need to say "I'm being attacked by a blue bear in a fedora with a baseball bat".

Not Tom Preston. Honestly, most of the hatred for him was irrational. Sure he had a fetish, wanted money, and blocked people, but so does half of Deviantart. Dobson was unique. He was an lolcow because he somehow made all of his opinions into something combative. Despite this, nothing he ever said could necessarily be considered wrong or mentally unhinged. Troon comics are funny because they go against common sense and science. They come off as genuinely insane
