Rust is who people like Ray wish they were in real life. Ray is the much more grounded and compelling misanthrope precisely because he's not some badass intellectual beneath it all.

He didn't. He's over 40, he's tired, he's got a shotgun and he's being chased by a dozen mercenaries intent on killing him. he was dead no matter what he did.

I didn't ask why he died. He clearly gave in at the end. There weren't a dozen left at that moment and he put himself in the way for certain death.

he could've let them get closer and then used the tree as cover while shooting instead of running way out into the open. only three (iirc) of them left and they didn't know exactly where he was, with the element of surprise he had a realistic chance.

Their relationship was so beautiful. That scene where they talked on the phone and Ray wants to say he loves her and she blows him off but not in a b***hy way, she's genuinely in love with him too as she bore his child. The way her eyes and demeanor became softer after she and Ray made love was beautiful which made the miseryporn ending that more frustrating and depressing.

How did this fly? We know someone else was pulling pizzolatos strings at this point since the gay and woman were forced in. Maybe the puppet masters allowed him a chud moment every season so long as the overall direction of the show was moving towards globohomo. Thinking of the parts mocking the woke interviewer in S3 too.

You do realize the gay and woman characters were woke subversions by Pizza? As in, the gay guy rejects being gay and the woman rejects being a girlboss and they both revert to their traditional roles as man and woman and one has a kid with his wife and the other a kid with Ray? That's why Pizzolato got shafted. He subverted woke cliches.

Obviously there was some external pressure to include them in the first place. As far as I'm concerned if you put a gay character in front of me it doesn't matter what your message is. Your show is woke.

She was honestly a pretty good character before the finale, I liked that she was misguided and delusional politically. She was miserable as a person and vented her anger at patriarchy and racism, while still being sympathetic. But in the end she was proven right by how the mystery turned out to really be all about patriarchy and racism. So what's the moral of her story arc? Also I didn't like the Magical Indian undertones of the story, that's racist as frick too. "Birds of Passage" does Native Americans engaging in a story of mysticism and crime much better, without making all of them into wise wizards.

The writing aside the actress did a really good job and I'd like to see her in a better story.

      >It's unhinged to praise the objectively good season that is widely considered a masterpiece.
      >But praising the season that was considered to be a disaster by anyone other than the world's most contrarian autists is fine

Season 2 fans are just like trannies. Trying to bend reality and make people accept the unnatural. Season 1 is just good with no mental gymnastics (much like a biological woman is just a woman) . Season 2 gays have to put all this effort into keeping this illusion going that their piece of shit was better than the season everyone loves. Your season is a man in a dress and will never be a woman. No amount of lies can change reality. Cope.

nobody's trying to make you love anything, you're the one that insist on a collective reddit hivemind because not everyone share your obsession over mcconahey reprising his homosexual role from the previous year

There are universal truths in this world. Two genders. Pedos deserve the rope and true detective season 1 was the greatest thing to ever air on television. Can't mindfrick me, troony.

this is where you're going off though. It's a legit 8/10 or 9/10, but when you gays start calling it the greatest ever you sound unhinged, or in Marty's words "panicked."

When it aired, season 1 was the best thing on television.
Season 2 went even further and would have outdone it I'd it had been given an extra year of production.
Season 3 and 4 were a humiliation ritual since Pizza got too close for comfort to a lot of things.

Season 3 isn't nearly as bad as season 4. It had some great characters and performances. Just feels kinda drawn out and too much screen time with the wife. Also pretty boring how it's obviously derivative of season 1 rather than something original.

Still quality TV though. Season 4 makes it look top tier.

Season 3 is the moment it pivoted from an interesting fictionalization of the Franklin scandal/iran-contra to a formulaic cop drama. It wasn't bad, but what it represented was the end of an original series and the start of True Detective TM the franchise.

Should have dropped the cop thing altogether and made it about drug dealers in Baltimore or journalists in Nicaragua or something.

Collins Farrel is more of a brad pitt kinda actor. he can act, but not that much. he can't quite bring a character to life like leo and transform into it like ddl. it honestly just depends on the character, not his acting. he is a good actor and has been in many classic movies like in Bruges and modern indie good ones like banshees of inisherin but the truth is he doesn't bring a lot to the table as an actor. I'm not saying that acting is not his strong suit, but it's just passable.

I hope you're not suggesting that McConaughey or Woody are better actors because they're absolutely not. McConaughey is same flat himself in pretty much everything from romcoms to oscar winning gay drama

I think he brings a lot to true detective. Take the scene with him beating up the bully's dad. The dialogue is absolutely ridiculous. On the page the whole thing would just be stupid but Farrell sells it so hard that the scene is amazing.

For fricks sake you guys, I watched all of S1 without any Family Guy clips or Subway Surfers gameplay and there was definitely sex between Woody Harrelson and that prostitute, but there was NO SEX with Matthew McConoughey and at no time did Woody Harrelson complain about Matthew McConoughey mowing his lawn.
