Korra should've been a different thing seperate from Avatar.

It's simultaneously overhated and not hated enough.

I'm currently watching it after watching ATLA last month and while I don't hate it I also feel like it could have been much better.
Korra is inherently unlikeable, and all the romance stuff with Mako, Asami and Korra jumping back and forth between each other is jarring as frick

Oh, also, so far Tenzin is the only good character (end of Season 2, hope he doesn't get worse)

Yeah but let's not swing the other way and start saying it was a misunderstood masterpiece

It deserved better, Nick clearly had no idea what to do with it and the whole production suffered.

No she sucks ass and she ruined Aang's legacy. She's also a selfish c**t who destroyed a loving relationship for no reason.

The biggest problem this show had was that it was about the avatar immediately after Aang. It needed to take place like 10 Avatars down the line. A total separation from the all the old characters.

Originally it was going to be a series about an Earth Avatar after the Water Avatar after Aang, but these hacks realized they couldn't make 'I know what that is' fanservice about ATLA so they decided to make the protag the Water Avatar after Aang instead.

It's over hated but the you know who crowd yet at the same time Korragays ignore some pretty egregious flaws the show had. It's a 6/10 series when it's at it's best and it's worst.

    >Let's intentionally portray Korra as an unreasonable b***h in season 2, and Mako as the reasonable one
    >Okay, now let's wipe her memory
    >Let's use Korra's amnesia plot point solely to do ANOTHER love triangle, because everyone loved it the last time
    >Okay, now that this plot point served its purpose, let's restore Korra's memory.

    You can't defend this.

This show really needed a teenage antagonist. Everyone Korra fights are old enough to be her parents. She needed an Azula or early Zuko type character. The waterbender twins felt like a halfhearted attempt at that, but they were too goofy.

They also needed way more one-off characters and side adventurers for Korra. The original show had a new setting and characters virtually every episode and this served two purposes. First it fleshed out the world and helped illustrate that the war was affecting normal people’s everyday day lives while also establishing that Aang was an Avatar who cared about the common person’s life. Constantly volunteering his life and meeting people at their level to understand and help out in any way he can, remember when Aang postponed his search for Appa to personally guide a pregnant refugee couple through a treacherous mountain pass? Korra gets none of this, whenever there’s some crisis on her hand she exclusively only receives input from rich men, politicians or nobles, it’s completely sterile and insular.

Yes, she is a much better protagonist than Aang.

It is, now I'm not saying it's actually really good or better than people think. However the faults it does have are exemplified because it is a follow up to a very popular series and that shit always garners more criticism. There so many "terrible sequels" that are actually ok movies that happened to be the follow up to a fantastic movie. The other thing is that had some great setups that led to bad resolutions like, Amon's shit falling apart because he water bended in public, Dark Avatar kaiju fight, the giant mech. Every season people seemed to be ready to love the show again but ended up disappointing. It's like Game of thrones, that was the most popular show on the planet for a few years, and then the shitty last season was enough to make people dislike the show entirely, and probably wouldn't even be recommended to watch it now. Because of the above you can hardly say positive things about Korra without it being taken in direction any negative.

I feel like they wanted to recreate Toph's brash personality with Korra but didn't realize that what can work for a side character can be grating for the main character. It's the same reason the mysterious loner butthole is the rival and not the MC.

Yeah, if she was just the wienery but moronic "tough guy" member of the real new Avatar's team, meaning she doesn't have to carry anything too heavy plot-wise, she would probably be an all time Cinemaphile favorite.

      >She's hot, like a Katara with breasts.
She may not have been stacked like Korra, but Katara definitely wasn't flat. She had a perfectly respectable bust for her age honestly.

Now that the dust has settled, can we agree that OP is a massive homosexual and posting threads in this format should result in a public ban?

Was anyone else annoyed by Varrick? He was entertaining in small doses, but he was getting way too much screen time later on. It's like the writers considered him the breakout character or something.

He was popular when the show was airing on account of having an actual personality beyond "I am a teenager who is involved in a love triangle" so his role got expanded. He was pretty clearly meant to be a twist villain with the war profiteering shit and then written out of the show, but fans liked him and they kept needing to write more plot that wasn't originally planned so he came back.

Depends on what about the episode you're referring to

      But no

The closest I can think of is in the final season where they kind of do a bottle episode.

Korra doesn't have a strong enough supporting cast of characters her own age for that.
Mako, Bolin and Asami suck. Mako's a mary sue in season 1 and gets turned into a bland dick they don't know what to do with later on, Bolin flip flops between a billion jobs like homer simpson while being moronic, and Asami is the appa of the group.
