    I have mixed feelings.

As movies they're subpar in every level except exposition and world building.

I am a big fan of world building but I'm also a fan of naratives and good movies.

One one had it showed us what peak Jedi/Sith look like is, a lot of people hate peak jedi because they saw light saber combat in star wars as more of a fight between charactes with fancy weapons to distract the normies, a narative plot.

Prequels basicaly lead to the creation of all the Star Wars video games I like, they showed off what Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Star Wars Battlegrounds, Empire at War, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I and II, Star Wars: Battlefront II.

Sadly with Empire at War this era of new kino Star Trek games ended and everyone forgot about it or made dogshit games.

The new movies might as well not exist honestly.

Wouldn’t say exceeded, but both trilogies are 10/10s.

In terms of over-indulgence, style-over-substance, lack of narrative logic, characterization, seizure-inducing cg effects in lieu of story, and shameless fan-service, yes, the prequel trilogy exceeded the original trilogy.
    Well done, OP. Tip-top thread.

Shit posting aside, the prequels massively opened up the galaxy and also indirectly ushered in the golden age of Star Wars expanded universe material. It was way funner to be a Star Wars fan in 1997-2003 than it was to be one 1977-1983. As we now see with Disney's handling of the franchise and the sequels, this had nothing to do with it just being Star Wars. Obviously Lucas - for all his flaws - had a good idea of his universe and how to handle it since Star Wars reached its peak in the 1990s when he had the most control over the franchise.

They are not good movies and they shat on stuff from the original trilogy but I find the Prequel era to be overall more interesting than the other eras. That's all the credit I can give them

I grew up on the prequels, so my nostalgia lies with them, and after watching all 6 recently the OT was far better. I still enjoyed the prequels but no Star Wars content has ever matched the originals.

Lucas had a lot of great ideas but he desperately needed a competent editor, I'm sure someone competent could make a new cut of the prequel trilogy and they could be the best movies in the saga

The editing of the filmed movies aren't the issue, Lucas needed an editor for his *scripts*. Most of the concepts he had aren't bad, he just needed the extra sets of eyes to reign him back in, tighten things up, simplify some of the chaff, etc.

He also needed a competent director and script rewriter.

The only thing the prequel trilogy does better (aside from action which isn't fair) is expanding the universe physically by showing us more planets, civilizations, etc. Otherwise it's self-indulgent crap that boils the entirety of Star Wars down to a handful of recycled individuals and character archetypes that only only approached something resembling entertainment when RotS came out and it fully succumbed to its cheesy nature.

This. Although RotJ was already headed down that road anyway.

I like Episode II for the forshadowing, and at the time before Disney cringe I remember casuals used to shit on me all the time for saying I liked Episode II and some even stopped talking to me for defending it.
Now they're fricking drooling over everything prequels and acting like nostalgia gays when I remember them literally being like
        >*wears Star Wars shirt*
        >the shirt? oh yea i'm a huge fan i love everything star wars
        >except ROTJ
        >and the prequel trilogy
        >and the animated Clone Wars
        >and the books
        >and the comics

I recently rewatched them. Knowing what the plot was already made it better and it made me appreciate the tiny tid bits such as the world building throughout the story that just seems absolutely stupid to anyone seeing it for the first time

What i like the most about prequels is the peak jedi fights, the politics of a failing government, the expanded world building. Also, i kinda enjoy the cringy dialogue most people despise tbh

Nostalgia is strong with you look at this cartoonish shit.
Not to mention weak plot and dialogues.
    Original trilogy aged well though
