Matt Damon has an IQ of 160

That is an "estimated" and "reported" number, which is always bullshit. People forget that IQ is not a linear scale, just like the Richter scale is not linear. It's not like someone with a 160 IQ is 25% smarter than someone with a 120 IQ. It's crazy how much smarter someone with a 160 IQ is over the average person at 90-110. I consider myself smart, and I took the Mensa when I was like 22 years old and scored a 128. Perhaps I am a bit smarter now, but I couldn't imagine how fast you would have to fly through that test to get to 160.

Bunch of baloney. People will assume you’re more intelligent if you’re good-looking simply due to the halo effect. Hence why good-looking people will have higher grades and higher scores. It’s just cognitive bias on the examiner’s end.
If you look at historical geniuses, good luck finding one who’s a supermodel.

The halo effect is just that, an effect, i.e. a mirage. Women best experience this when they hit the wall and the world suddenly treats them differently, it's well documented.

Yes, but it will give you an easier time in school. Both socially and academically.

              Anonymous

Socially for sure. Academically, I don't know. I think that's more of a personal responsibility. You can be attractive but also a dropout, especially if your parents don't do their job right.

                Anonymous

Of course you do better academically. See e.g., male vs. female performance in schools. Males get graded worse, but perform the same on tests, where there's no subjective interpretation by the teachers. There was a report in my country a few years ago that listed the discrepancy at 30%, i.e., boys were graded 30% lower than their objective performance, relative to girls. You can be sure the halo effect has a similar impact, though at what rate who knows.
That's besides other benefits, like people simply being more likely to want to help you when you when you encounter problems. Which obviously is also beneficial.

I think the main truth is that you can't tell what a person's intelligence will be based on their looks.
And that there's a difference between science smart and street smart. In an ideal scenario, you have someone with the problem solving skills of a savant and the intuition of a socially calibrated person, but that's just people who have it all.

Most of them are White, with a minority being Asian and Indian. How can you say you can't judge someone based on their looks, when race is an aspect of looks.
Are all ethnicities represented in that image? No, so it makes racism seem quite logical.

                >We have no knowledge of their personalities or how they would compare to attractive people in any regard.

Have you never met a smart person? I'm related to one, so I can tell you geniuses are quite normal. What you can't see about a person is how their brain works, and that's the difference between them and us. I feel like my intelligence is okay, so anyone smarter than me would just have better memory, and be able to process things quicker in their head.

That is an "estimated" and "reported" number, which is always bullshit. People forget that IQ is not a linear scale, just like the Richter scale is not linear. Yeah, that would be the only way to score that high. Even if I did that test, and got the answers right, it would take me twice as long as someone smarter.

                >I tend to gravitate towards wise people more than smart in the traditional sense.

I don't even know what it means to be wise. I'd rather my friends be moral than smart, because there's so few smart people. It's a shame that Cinemaphile has neither kind of person, which is why I don't have friends here.

It means having good judgement, not taking everything at face value, etc. Being moral like you said is essentially part of that, because a person can be booksmart and commit terrible deeds. Charisma is another thing that makes a difference and not all intelligent people have it.

                >being good with equations
You don’t have to be high IQ to be good at maths. You just have to be autistic.

                >a person can be booksmart and commit terrible deeds

Absolutely. I think it's because intelligence and empathy are different parts of the brain. I said I was related to a genius, and you might think he's better than me at everything, but it's not true; My empathy is higher than his. If someone was in trouble, I would be much more likely to help than him. I suspect it's because when you're highly intelligent, you actually value your own life, whereas I would risk mine for someone I don't even know. I'm trying to say that there's value in being dumb, which is why I don't need my friends to be smart. It would be nice if they were smart, but when you're a poor person, you don't meet many at all.

Yeah, I think both are important, but emotional intelligence matters in a more immediate sense. It's basically the difference between a good CEO and a bad one. Both can be successful, but if you're a likeable person you'll have an easier time amassing the right people and making sure they stick with your company.

That's very true. The smartest person I know isn't the most likeable person I've known. That's probably why in RPGs, Intelligence and Charisma are two different stats. I have to wonder what the people of Cinemaphile dumped their points into.
