>>Be Hilda
Who is going to be the unexpected underdog star of this year's miss Cinemaphile?
The worst part of Hilda is that Johanna is a great mother and Hilda's repeatedly really shit to her.
It even goes out the way to show just how much Hilda makes her a wreck, knowingly putting herself in grave danger, usually out of selfishness
Boonchuys once again proving to be the superior family
t. has never had a lonely mom who tries to use you as a best friend substitute
I know it's basically unintentional on the creator's part, but the show does a great job making you feel the hole in the family dynamic left behind by the absent father figure without ever spelling it out. Johanna is desperately lonely and also has an extremely difficult time being firm with Hilda, in large part because she doesn't want to alienate her main source of companionship. She literally breaks down in tears when she's forced to ground Hilda. In turn, Hilda lacks strong parental discipline and it shows. Constantly.
Yeah, it is really really good characterization,
That's not the show doing a great job, that's your personal associations and projections.
Yes, it is my own analysis and therefore colored by my own biases. And as I said, I don't believe it was the creator's intention per se. Perhaps calling something that's essentially unintended a "good job" is a bit of a misnomer, I'll concede that much.
It's not necessarily caused solely by the absentee father, but it's the most obvious thing missing from the picture and it's clear to see how many of the issues could fall out from that.
That said, Johanna doesn't necessarily NEED a husband, nor Hilda NEED a father. Johanna could just make some actual friends and grow a backbone, which would hopefully result in Hilda's behavior improving in turn. And just as well a father wouldn't necessarily resolve the issues if he lacked the proper qualities. Indeed, it may be too late for Hilda to ever really respect a new dad, unless he earned her respect in spectacular fashion.
Still, I think it's an interesting point of discussion.
Hilda is bothered by not having a dad, she asks Baba's mom if she has a husband. As for if she will accept a dad, it depends, if it is an adventurer I'm prety sure she would like him
>Johanna is desperately lonely and also has an extremely difficult time being firm with Hilda, in large part because she doesn't want to alienate her main source of companionship.
This is no doubt a true statement, but none of this is implicitly caused by "an absent father figure." Parents will always run into drama and difficulty when communicating with their children, single or otherwise.
>unintentional
Hilda did respond disappointedly over not having a father in the movie, so I think Luke meant to imply that sort of thing.
this is good characterization, I like when the writters don't shy away from portaying the character as shitty people sometimes, everyone has had a fight with their parents and said mean things you don't really mean
It is good characterisation. The problem is that the show doesn't really throw Johanna the slightest bit of a bone. It shows her hurting and just ignores it and carries on into Hilda's next adventure where she could die, or worse.
Just spoils the vibe of the show. That and Erik being a shallow 1 dimensional antagonist. Never really got given a chance to show any depth or undergo any real redemption.
Does it? The movie shows how much of a toll it’s taken on her quite a bit.
As it always does, it'll all be forgotten after the first couple of minutes of S03E01, especially the fact that it all happened in the first place because of Hilda being selfish.
Did we really need an episode about Hilda getting her period?
Netflix already has Big Mouth
Now that's just crazy talk.
She looks like she fricks old fat white men
Yes
Hell no
I want to sniff her ass
I mean, kinda. there's so many dudes at her weekend gangbangs you gotta take a number and wait in line for the next vacant hole
Yes you useless fricking nerd, you're almost as bad as David. FRICKING DAVID.
What would you do on a date with Johanna?
Why would I date her?
Hilda is paying you.
Lame. Hilda must FORCE you.
How much?
Mating press
So who is the dad
Bell keeper?
Someone else?
Is Hilda even human? Maybe mum just found a blue haired baby in the woods
Virgin birth.
Can we please talk about how mediocre the show is not because of muh family drama based on le no father figure which is accidental as hell and instead just talk about how shitty of a hippy writer the original guy is? plus frankly his designs suck, both his monster designs and his female designs. Characters constantly switch between having sclera to having Charlie Brown tier lines for eyes.
I will die on this hill knowing I said the truth. We all know Hilda after the initial shock of "Oh my god the atmosphere, oh my god It's good, what a good 8/10 show" ends up being ranted about how boring the show is after the premiere and finales and then even those start getting ranted at for not being great enough. Not being "greater than life" "relaxing/comfy/mysterious/magical" enough.
>hilda
>blue hair
Her dad is Kirk van houten
