I think Sandberg set him up good there. He knew exactly what to say to get Norm going on his famous speech, so I give this bit to Sandberg. I mean they weren't competing or anything but if you know how to push someone's buttons you owned them.

I kind of felt bad for the other lonely island dudes when he bagged them out though I guess that Korma guy is fairly successful director

      Oh Kassem...

The entire segment is funny, and it's a bit like a meta joke. Normally this kind of fluff would be utterly forgettable, but Norm elevates it into something interesting. He's clearly not happy that this is the best gig he can get (he even talks about how he needs a new tv show which never materialized), and is passive aggressively sabotaguing the event. He is constantly belittling the talented youtube performers who are arriving, implying they're actually small-time nobodies. He didn't bother to wear actual formal wear, and he is constantly interupting his co-hosts.

And the best part? This was never officially archived! People saved it from the stream and Youtube never put it up. They have the official award ceremonies that no one cared about.

They are small-time nobodies though except bmaybe Kassim because he interviewed those pornstars. Is Kassim even still around

They're like D-list celebs. They are well known enough in some circles, but despite trying they never made it mainstream. It's more than enough to live in a big house though and to be invited to parties.

he does that podcast with the Sopranos actors. It never was huge and only gets a lot of views when they have a guest on though

there was an episode where Meadow talked about how she and her husband (MLB player) don't go down on each other anymore but sometimes she gets a glimpse of his dick in sweatpants just walked up the driveway and immediately needs to frick him. pretty kino

Jenny Slate talked about this afterwards and just called Norm a legend. Did Kassem ever address it? I know he has that podcast with Meadow and AJ.

Jenny has to say that of course, since Norm is so well liked but you can tell she was completely annoyed with him for the entire bit. And that's what makes Norm's appareances legendary because he would go so far off script and just say whatever he wanted to.

yeah, she definitely seemed annoyed. I guess I can understand when they're not very famous and just wanting to read the cards and get this shit over with. I'm sure it was funnier in hindsight for them

I don't think she "gets" it, and is just saying that to seem pleasant. She just said Norm's a "legend", but doesn't explain why it was funny or interesting.

Courtney Thorne-Smith in contrast totally gets norm:

          > Every once in a while, I’ll run into Conan and he’ll apologize, and I say, ‘That was one of my favorite moments of my life.’ Teased by Norm Macdonald? Are you kidding? I did The Tonight Show once, and Don Rickles made fun of my father, and my father never stopped talking about it. This is my version of that.

          >I told a story about my father telling a joke at my sister’s wedding, and then Don Rickles just went off on my father being crazy, and it was the high point of my father’s life. That’s how I felt when Norm teased me. It didn’t even occur to me that it could possibly be negative. I was beside myself.

          >I was there to promote Chairman of the Board. I was not thrilled about having to do it, so when Norm took over, I’m like, Oh, thank you, God and Norm Macdonald. It was a blessing. Look — had I thought that Chairman of the Board was my path to an Oscar, I might have been offended. I did not. So it was a joy to be teased about it. Because I didn’t know what I was going to say [on the show]. I was like, Good, Norm, you take over.[7]
