Why the hell was I allowed to watch this shit as a little kid?

I'm not trying to be edgy but why is it that whenever animated cartoons do anything that just a smidge wee bit slightly outside of the weenie hut junior status quo of being rainbbow sunshine, Disney songs, and sugery joy, people need to go–
      >le heckin dawk and scawy

Like honestly... it's literally two demented lemons bickering.
Why are you treating this like some dark web snuff film?

      Also nice trips

I think it's because scenes like this in cartoons that are generally pretty light hearted stick out quite a bit and people sort of mythologize them, for lack of a better word. I was too old to find this scene scary when it the episode aired but I could see younger people finding this scene a bit creepy.

I like that they got a real life abuser to voice him for authenticity

Do you think when he did that false imprisonment shit (I tried to find the details bit couldn't find shit on what specifically happened) he screamed "THOUSAND YEARS DUNGEON!!!" in Lemongrab's voice?

funny the problem is unhindged animated lemon people not,
        >nuclear war causing magic
        >lich pursuing destruction of all life
        >pedophilia adult female shota plots
        >existential morals left and right
Wait that's like a cool DnD campaign

Because people are looking for validation as animation fans and overplay the idea that these scenes are shockingly dark in order to make the genre seem more mature.

Because as someone who watched snuff films and the toenail episode of Spongebob as a child, the toenail episode traumatized me far more.

I'm 90% sure Adventure Time and Flapjack totally fricked my developing brain. The post Finn-loses-his-arm episodes are so experimental and arthouse it's a damn miracle AT was never cancelled. Seriously that episode where the goblin king guys lost his eyes and discovered meditation and transferred his bird harpies pain onto himself just scrambled my brain for a good year.

Wrong about what? Not my fault you can’t handle a story. This is like saying you watched wizard of Oz and couldn’t handle it was Dorothy really asleep? Touch grass.

Why're you getting so pressed about me not jiving with Adventure Time storylines? You get mad at people on Cinemaphile for not watching obscure German Expressionist films from the 1920's too? Be an elitist elsewhere, I might be dumb but at least I understood what AT teaches you; to be kind to others.

Schizo we’re on Cinemaphile if this was Cinemaphile I’d be cooming to some random white girl actress, I’m not being an elitist I’m saying you can’t seem to handle fiction you in general. The fact that a cartoon scrambled your brain is hilarious.

Goliad is the real fricked up episode to show a kid but only if the kid is smart enough to get it. Terrible message for that age demographic.

And here we have two savage titans playing the game of survival under striking lighting and sound. In one corner we have nature's serial killer, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, who must kill or die. In the other corner we have the strong but unarmed Brontosaurus fighting for her life and that of her child. Speaking of the little scamp, he gets to see life leave his mother's body before he has to cross a large desolate wasteland along with other orphans while the serial killer is stalking them.
Why the hell were you allowed to watch two weirdos drawn in a harmless style have a weirdo fight over playtime.

In retrospect, I did find some aspects of this show bizarre as a kid. I do not live in the US, so I'm not quite familiar with the style of stories and plot like other westerners do. It's just trippy to see shit like this that is a whole other world than what the other local channels air.

I remember missing the earlier seasons of AT, for the fact that it never pulled shit like this and acted like a show for kids.

I thought that too as I watched Adventure Time progress along with each season. I think the show's meteoric success (combined with its already surrealist style) granted it a level of prestige that allowed it an otherwise unobtainable amount of leverage and security compared to other shows. That allowed it to experiment and push boundaries in ways other shows couldn't, which I appreciated then and still do now because it gave us a lot of good stories and character beats we might not otherwise have gotten had the show have kept its tone from the earlier seasons. The problem with this, of course, is that eventually all that experimentation fried the writer's brains, and they had their heads so firmly lodged up their own assess by the end of the show that there was a whole lot more bad going on than good.

You should give them some credit, writing scenarios for a show this long isn't easy and they actually did a very respectable effort.
While yes, later seasons took a drop in quality, not many episodes were actually boring, unwatchable or woke.
Adventure Time lived up to it's expectation fully, even if it did not overachieve.

My ex had a Lemongrab plushie. One time we were having sex, she grabbed it, smiled, and said:
      >Look, we are having a threesome!
I can't stop thinking about it till this day.
