It's actually harder and takes more effort than just doing upper body exercises. You also don't get the high and exhilaration of a pump, that makes working out more fun, since your blood flows to your legs.

No it's not. That's exactly what everyone was saying when Dark World came out myself included. Then again after Ragnarok came out. Every time a new Thor movie comes out it feels like the Marvel has surely overplayed their hand and this era of capeshit has to come to an end. Then it just doesn't. I don't see why this time will be any different to those which came before.

because before they had avengers to reel people back in
now they have nothing, nobody cares about any of the new characters
Not to say it is inevitable, but it is a different scenario and MCU is much much more vulnerable right now than before.

I don't blame you, it's hard to understand what the sentiments were like at the time when all you have to go on is retrospectives which already know how everything turned out.

No one was saying that when Dark World came out because the MCU was far from its peak of popularity then

          Anonymous

          >he MCU was far from its peak of popularity then
This is exactly what I meant when I brought up people taking in info based on retrospectives. The Avengers WAS the peak at that time. Dark world was big letdown after that in both ratings and at the boxoffice and had a lot of people asking how they could possibly keep pumping out another 30 movies and series over the next decade and not have it all fall apart. Nobody in 2013 would have ever known or thought that Marvel would come back with a marketing tour deforce to get all that hype behind Infinity War and Endgame. People only say those things now because they can cherrypick details and events to craft the narrative of how things happened. People at the time viewed things much differently than people who weren't there do now.

The MCU's main appeal was how connected it was and that every movie was important and a piece of a bigger story, that's why the DCEU failed back in those days, meanwhile the MCU is currently doing what the DCEU did back then, which is baffling because they know that didn't work

          Anonymous

except the only connecting the first movies did was just a 30 second mid credits scene. The first MCU movies that got em popular were like a 7 course meal, everything was separate but part of something larger, Now MCU movies are like taking that 7 course meal, shoving it all into a blender and hitting "puree" until its a disgusting combination of everything but you can drink it all down in one 30 second go

most of them really are not, and it sucks. The Avengers films are fun and clearly have a goal/voice. The rest feel like part 2's, every single one, its a part 2. Like BTTF2, it needs part 1 and it needs part 3. That honestly, sucks. The amount of branches the MCU has needs to be trimmed. Give me an independent movie, that's actually good.

        Anonymous

Completely agree. I mean, it's a fairly entertaining comedy, but it's total shit as a movie about Thor.

Know why his mythos doesn't work? Because it's the bedrock upon which Marvel comics as a whole rests, and Disney has done everything within their power to either ignore it or undermine it at every given opportunity. What is that bedrock? In simplest terms, it's this:

        Human potential.

They could have set that up, used Thor, Strange, GotG, and the Eternals to introduce the backhistory, to explain why the pantheons of Earth and the galactic empires both leave Earth alone, that we're the Celestials' latest and most promising experiment, and that Thor, unique among the gods, is a protector that Odin petitioned the Celestials to allow. Every superhuman, every mutant in the Marvel universe is a manifestation, however imperfect, of the potential the Celestials see in humanity. Every secret society, both good and bad, is seeking to shepherd humanity into realizing that potential even if it's on their terms and not the Celestials'. Adam Warlock is one of those secret society's attempts to create a more evolved human, and what do they manage to produce? A being *born* with power that rivals a herald of Galactus, a man whose fate is so unwritten and wide-open that not even the abstract embodiment of the Universe itself can perceive the role he plays in things.

Disney thinks that's too hokey, I guess, so instead of embracing it, they let hacks like Waishitti mock shit he has neither the intellect to contemplate, the humility to appreciate, nor the optimism and skill to deliver even if he did.

        In other words, frick Disney.

Keep in mind that the studios take 50% on average, with more going to the cinemas as time goes on.
Though granted marketing, while technically an expense, is largely paid into their own pockets so isn’t a major factor for it flopping or not.

        >So yeah, you just made back 150m
If you ignore the theater cut

        Anonymous

Marketing is never less than the production budget, you're being way too generous there and they don't receive 100% of the earnings, the cinemas needs to get something and studios receive a smaller portion from international gross. The shareholders will be livid, especially when you consider Disney share prices are currently just above their five year low.

        Anonymous

Rule of thumb is to double the production budget to account for marketing, and half the box office take to account for theater takes (and other factors). So that's 500 mil to make and it's current BO is 500 mil (when accounting for the studios slice of the profit) so yeah, that's a massive flop. But Hollywood accounting and cover for it for now.

Strange almost hit 1b, the 2 biggest things against it are the investment into the MCU and the fact disney started streaming it at the 6 week mark. Basically, Top gun is a more approachable summer film and doesn't have a streaming option. Disney doesnt know wtf they're doing yet with this put it on disney+ shit. No one has paramount+ so, they saw top gun in theaters. And thor 4 from the trailers looks like shit, and surprise-surprise, is shit. Strange absolutely had competition though. It will all depend on the trailer tbh. The Thor 4 trailer is what made my normie friends, who are mostly casual marvel fans, not want to see it. If it looks good it will get them, I'm sure.
The die-hard MCU drones will watch anything, Feige needs to focus on the casuals if he wants big numbers again.
But BP2 already has no Tchalla, missing secondary members, and an unpopular actress as the protagonist. Genuinely don't think it will do that well. Maybe they'll put Spiderman on it out of desperation or something.

Actually, I think it's coming out at the same time as Avatar 2. Will be interesting to see Marvel vs titan of culture James Cameron, it will be the only time in a while where they have to prove themselves. Will be fun to see even if it's just more money for Disney in the end lol

i think the mcu shit is nearing its slow end..didnt exactly help that they went the lazy literal graveyard route of "muh multiverse shit" which never ever works in anything because it destroys any and all tension and almost by desgin shits out plot holes constantly and thats the best case scenario the more likely worst case scenario is that typical "multivers nothing matters" shit in media retroactively also takes a huge shit on everything that came before... it really is the lazy writers route when you run out of ideas.... anyway back to the topic of the mcu failing.. i think everyone in the industry is seeing the writing on the wall and thats why they suddenly try to go hard on video game and anime adaptations in hopes of striking the next goldmine with long legs.

They’ve mostly cucked themselves by not having any charismatic leads waiting in the wings, emasculating the remainders and having nothing solid to work towards.
The three secrets to marvel’s success were the leads, making the movies seem like required reading for a payoff and being an unstoppable juggernaut that’s impossible to ignore, and they’ve lost all that.
I get that the latter was an inevitable temporary situation, and that the writer’s strike has been bleeding irreplaceable talent for over a decade now, but surely Larry wouldn’t mind having a lead that isn’t a complete limp wrist if you bulk the movie with the tokens?

yeah the new leads are kinda bland at best... i get that at some point the actors want to move on and you need to bring in new ones... but come on lol

        >no cinema is just dying
Top Gun: Maverick made a billion without China and is Tom Cruise's most successful movie.

Yes Top Gun is a very important part of pop culture, a movie literally decades in the making instead really a sustainable way to keep the industry alive with streaming eating it alive. If capeshit dies without anything to replace it cinema is dead.
One Marvel tier movie not about superheroes is great but at the end of the day it's just one
