      This.
Directors today only know to waste money on useless shit.
Pick any classic film that was critically acclaimed and financially successful from the 40s, 50s and 60s and adjust their budget for inflation. The best movies of the era were made with the equivalent of just a few millions today.
For example: The Maltese Falcon had a budget of 375,000 in 1941, adjusted to today's dollars that's only 7,7 millions.

Pretty depressing after how good Fury Road was. It could've rebooted the entire Max franchise with George Miller giving us a whole new set of films just as good, with Hardy as Max, but nah instead we get woke feminism immediately.

        Anonymous

The goal was to always replace Max with a female lead. Making a Furiosa prequel was dipping their toe into the concept, thinking that people liked this character.

Nobody cares about Furiosa, even if they liked her. Fury Road was her movie and it told us everything we needed to know about her character and motivations, and people didn't care to know more.

Fury Road wasn't that popular while in theaters it gained way more traction with home/streaming releases. Tom hardy was really difficult to work with, he was even shitty toward Georges and Tom had to apologize for his behavior afterwards. He might not be coming back, I think George is going to cast an Australian Max for Wasteland. for the 1000th time these movies aren't work or feminist, this shit gets argued down in every Mad Max thread.

nta but fury road is a feminist film in the sense that the women are shown as being capable of contributing, and not in a cringe "we don't need men" kind of way, furiosa's plan becomes heavily reliant on max very quickly
furiosa doesn't have any feminist shit in it and was just poorly marketed and the cgi made the trailers look like shit

there's actually a checklist of how a woman is supposed to act and certain things that cannot happen to women in movies.

like one of the things is a man is never allowed to take away a woman's agency. or if he does, she must ultimately take it back and prove herself stronger than the man who took it.

also, men, especially white men, must be made to look like incompetent boobs when compared to a woman, who can never, ever fail or look stupid.

                >that the women are shown as being capable of contributing
One woman is shown to be able to contribute and then at the very end a bunch of old hags help out and get steamed rolled into oblivion. The rest of the women are literally chattel slaves, sex prisoners, and peasants.

if it has a woman in it, on some level, it's a feminist film.

just like how virtually every single movie or tv show has to have a homosexual, homosexual couple and they must always be portrayed in a normal and positive light.

              >Cause chudbros abandoned the arts cause they thought it was only for gays
not the causality is that art is created in CITIES and CITY PEOPLE are leftist for various reasons. it's the politics of oversocialized hive people. all of the arts are flooded with this kind of thinking because the places creating the arts breed this kind of ideology inherently. there is no such thing as a right-wing city population. there may be right wing artists but they would have to keep their opinions hidden away so in the end their works would also just reflect the leftist city hivemind.

What movie math are they using for Furiosa because it's much worse than that. Knowing that they get less from international what they got back right now in profit worldwide is about $64m against a 168m budget and that is not including marketing. Their domestic cratered so their profit loss has to be at least over $100m minimum.

Furiosa highlights one of my issues with current year storytelling. Not everything needs a backstory. I don't give a frick about the "lore" of storm trooper #14881337, I don't care about the backstory of most side characters. Most of them aren't interesting enough or are just comic relief or fodder to make the MC Gary/Mary Sue look more perfect.
