the x-men were 100% right and everyone was a massive hypocrite in this run. the only moment of honesty was when beat called the avengers out on their bullshit. of course then the plot demanded the phoenix five to turn mean, but the way it was set up, hadn't everyone else poked at them non-stop it would have been fine.
come to think this is the prime example of why x-men are overall trash, or at least have been for the past decades. every time they come up with a solution that would fix their shit they have to find excuses to frick it up because it would be the end of the franchise. it's a never ending loop of "le humans bad :(". I get that all marvel characters have their recurring theme, but I find the x-men particularly aggravating because the level of soap opera vibes they have is unmatched
The X-men were objectively in the wrong from an in-universe perspective, but 100% right from an out-of-universe perspective. That's the real issue with the comic. It makes absolute sense to the fanbase that the Phoenix Force would be coming back to help out the X-men because they've been bombarded with nothing but comic after comic of Hope being "The Chosen One", to the point Cable outright tells his dad about the future...which he articulates NOTHING about to any of his own allies in the X-men, let alone the heroes, meaning that despite the readers knowing that Cyclops has a plan however shitty it was, every other single other human being thought that the X-men's whole plan was "HURR LET'S LET THE PLANET EATING MONSTER COME TO EARTH AND FEED HER A JEAN GREY COPY AND HOPE IT WORKS OUT ADERP ADERP". Frankly, if the Avengers went along with that plan, shitheads like you would just be screaming how stupid and moronic they are when the comic inevitably had Hope go out of control and start blowing up the planet because the comic had to have a moronic hero vs hero conflict.
So yeah. Frick anyone that ever justifies the event or ever says one side is right or wrong. And also, frick you especially for claiming the X-men were right when they did the stupidest thing in not getting Rachel or any of the Cuckoo Five to help Hope in controlling the Phoenix.
