Not to muddy the waters with antihero shit but it's pretty clear in the comic that Butcher, narratively, is the hero protagonist until he very abruptly isn't.
Also this was probably the most moving and upsetting sequence of the entire comic. The show completely ruins it by making MM such an butthole. Imagine if he was just Le Badass Loyal Mr. T/Carl Weathers/Shaft Guy, Cinemaphile would probably love him. Frickin' /misc/ would probably love him.
Its hammered home in several scenes that Butcher is an unhinged psychopath who was only able to keep it together because of his wife, and that he's lost it as a result of her rape//murder at the hands of Homelander(Noir) and is only keeping it together because he needs to keep it together to be able to get his vengeance.
His "imma kill erry fokin supe on the planet, meself 'n all me friends included" caught me by surprise since I guess I hadn't been paying attention to the walls of text in some issues and not seen how he would be able to do that, but it didn't seem inappropriate to the character.
One of the things the comic actually executes well is that who Butcher is doesn't fundamentally change, but he still moves from hero to villain as the circumstances around him change.
He was the hero in a world with The Seven. He was the villain in a world without them. His wish that he would have died fighting them is tragically true, that would have been his best ending and he didn't get it.

My biggest issue was Soulja Boy Tellem's™ antagonistic relationship with MM. Like why would America's posterboy hero randoy stroll a black neighbourhood to hurl a fricking car through a house of innocents? Was he high or drunk? It just seems like a forced method of justifying MM's character by underpinning revenge as motivation for all of his actions (cheapest literary tool of making a character a sympathetic one). And I say that as someome who generally believes MM is one of the best characters in the show in terms of moral consistency and constitution.

It's definitely strongly left leaning overall, while it is smart enough to poke fun at left at times, there are no positive conservative characters. And also while it does riff on some cliches, like girls get it done, in the end it always ends up being what it parodies, it often tries to have its cake and eat it too and if you are braindead they do. Just because they winked at you and poked fun at something doesn't absolve them from doing that exact thing.

I'm really disappointed. I couldn't stand his bullshit comic role, I really dug the whole "silent loyal competent oddly sentimental" thing they were doing with his character, then they made him a hallucinating moron, then they killed him. By giving him an injury slightly LESS severe than the numerous ones we've seen him easily walk off.
I mean it's not a huge thing in terms of what this show fricks up, but it's galling enough to just make me wanna go "nah frick this show" anyway.
My favorite part was when Huey’s desire to protect the ones he loves was portrayed as selfish, while read the woman’s desire to protect the ones she loves was portrayed as self-sacrificial

I’d say S2 is the worst. It completely fricked the pacing with the first 3 episodes being more like a 3 act movie, and the remaining 6 feeling rushed. And of course the politics was tiresome
S3 is a better story than 2 but then they decide to ramp up the politics right at the end
