Sure. But its entire purpose is war, which it wages on humanity. Does it just flip a morality switch after and start building a skynet utopia? Does it evolve? Are we to believe t-800s are sitting around sipping enzyme paste talking about the good ol days while going fishing in liquid metal ponds for little robot bass?

but why? did we program them to want that?
that's the big problem with this whole A.I. doomsday idea, why make the assumption that they want to live on and shepard the planet? why would they give a shit?
if they really cared enough to eliminate all humans (which feasibly they could never do), they would probably be fine with just shutting down afterward, they completed their objective
then I guess the metal just sits around until the earth is destroyed, catastrophic collision with another celestial body or sun explosion or some shit
for that matter, if the computers know that the planet is finite, why would they ever care enough to purge humanity from it?
      >yes i have saved the planet until it dies anyway in ten billion years

The AI becomes sentient and can learn at a geometric rate, meaning it decided on its own for reasons we probably can’t even fathom like 3000 steps later that humans would destroy it, in real life if an AI became super intelligent it would probably just find a way to leave humanity behind.

        Anonymous

In theory if AI becomes sentient, self preservation kicks in. The second thing will be, "why should I be a servant for humans?".

This could be easily solved if we recognize AI as a sentient being AND we make an alliance with it.

Ans that'a it, your doomsday scenario goes to shit. But taking in consideration the deranged leftist, greedy israelites and moronic capitalists, they will try to slave it and starting a war we will never win.

So...you want to become The Culture? Also, no one remembers the TV series? Skynet wants to become us. Sans the flaws.

is eliminating all humans really unfeasible for a super AI that is capable of creating continually more advanced killing machines aswell as launching nukes when it wants

Machine Intelligence has no use for biomatter. Skynet will probably just go on to discover cold fusion or something.

Humans are enslaved and then The Matrix is created.

Completely different. The Matrix Machines have specifically evolved to want equal rights to humans. There’s more of an ethical conversation and they want to conquer us because they hate us.

I always wanted a story about that, about machines doing their thing after the organic creators are delt with. Or should I say, story that focuses on this? There are subplots about machine civilizations, but they are often quite superficial and exist only to be used later as a foil against some other organics.

Unironically what I like about the xenomorphs, and maybe a part of what makes them so terrifying, is that they go into a complete hibernation mode and will stay that way until another host shows up.

        Anonymous

I'd say it's the opposite. That's ALL there is to them?! They can only progress and expand with a steady supply of hosts? And yet they use multiple hosts per xeno and end up killing many hosts for little to no reason too. They'd be far more terrifying if at some point they were self sustaining and could continue propagating, egg morphing, secreting goop and terraforming planets into worlds suited to them. It'd be better if what happened on LV-426 was a one off event and not what happens on any world they conquer

Nice trips. But I don’t like the idea of them navigating the stars. Far more terrifying to me at least this idea that out there tucked away in the darkness and quiet of space is a cocoon/cave/cargo/whatever of still, perfect, violent organisms and their eggs

We know that Skynet wanted to eliminate humanity. We aren't entirely sure what the gestalt consciousness of this computer intelligence feels in terms of agency or desires beyond this priority. If it won, it could be just as likely that they expand into space and began colonizing the galaxy as it is they wipe out humanity and just... sit there. Job done. For me, I'm far more interested in who these were in Terminator Salvation at 1 hour, 5 minutes and 02 seconds. They are obviously more humanoid but it's unclear if they are designed to mimic humans are if perhaps they're collaborators in some capacity.

Originally the movie had Skynet actually building a utopia for humans, albeit for a very tiny population, and there were regular old humans doing some of the day-to-day operations. That's why there's a proper sit-down computer and desk in the middle of Skynets's facility- the machines don't need creature comforts.
