NTA but I'll try to explain.
MK9 was a reboot after Armageddon in which it was the events of the first 3 games, where future Dark Raiden tried to prevent Shao Kahn from winning everything. At the MK9 things change just enough to prevent Armageddon from happening, but expedite Shinnok's return. MKX is Shinnok's invasion of Earth, reimprisonment, releaes, then death with everything weird for characters (like Dark Raiden back, and Liu Kang stuck as a revenant to rule the Netherrealm).
Cut to MK11. Turns out EVERYTHING we know in the series, including time resets and frickery, was the work of a being named Kronika. She exists outside of time, mother to Shinnok and an elder god named Cetrion. Kronika has been resetting time countless times to get the timeline she wants, namely where her son Shinnok rules indefinitely with no flaws. The events of MK11 is the first time anyone has been aware of her presence, and it's the first time they decide to invade her fortress. Earthrealm wants to be free from the manipulation, and Outworld (Shao Kahn) wants to seize her time power hourglass so they can shape a timeline to their liking. This time frickery is why different versions of characters exist or are revived at the same time. In the final act of the game Raiden decides that his choices keep making things worse, and trusts Liu Kang to lead them to victory. So Raiden gives up his thunder god powers and makes Liu Kang FIRE GOD LIU KANG.

Ladder endings?
Ladder, or arcade mode, is where you climb the "ladder" and fight between 10 and 20 matches with the games final boss (Shang Tsun, Shao Khan, etc) at the end. When you defeat that final boss, there's an ending specific to the character you played and they're usually exclusive to the point where other characters may contradict that ending in their own ending.
It's explained by Kronika's near endless resets of the timeline, so in one of them Sub-Zero and Scorpion team up while in another Shujinko gets killed by Cassie Cage. MK9 even had a show down between Liu Kang and Raiden, with Liu walking away the victor and becoming the new Protector of Earthrealm.
Oh, I'm out of the loop. Figured most endings were just considered bullshit, but that makes sense. So at some point there was a timeline where Bi Han succeeded in assassinating Shang Tsung without Scorpion getting him, and one where Raiden DID invite the other gods to Mortal Kombat and destroy the Earth.

Liu Kang leaves all of his friends to horrible fates or deaths just for a gambit at giving Shang Tsung a frickload of power so that he can kill Shang and absorb that power.
I think the most notable was Sonya and Johnny getting captured by Shao Khan/Sindel's army and being taken to the breeding pits.

Was more the management at WB games being worried that the unit was going to be sold off (And it was reported they did have talks with multiple companies), wanting to capitalize on the new movie coming out and MK X and 11 being such a massive success compared to Injustice 2 that they wanted Netherrealm to work on a new Mortal Kombat again over Injustice. Warners then CEO Jason Kilar killed the notion of the sell off after talks fell through with other companies and the Mortal Kombat movie did very well for them on streaming which is why Warner Bros kept on the gaming studios.

I think that anon is referring in terms of mechanics. Sure, narratively in the context of a tv show their personalitites dictate how they deal with situations more but in a fighting game where characters need expanisve movesets it's not like Homelander can literally just use nothing but his lazer eyes and nothing else.
Homelander is expected to have a full move-set which brings the question how exactly is his move-set going to be diffrent compared to Omni-Man when both are basically just Superman expies with nearly the exact same powers.

Homelander would play as a pussy whose moves would be tossing people or cars at you and using laser eyes so you can never reach melee range. He sucks in melee, even moreso in the comics.
Meanwhile Omni-Man is more of a brute force tank. He's durable, super fast and super strong, capable of creating sonic booms with ease. He also prefers to get up in your face as unlike Homelander, he loves fighting.

I've played it and liked it pretty well. I dug that it felt very much like Klassic Mortal Kombat. But I would like to see a more fleshed out version with Netherrealm's aesthetic.

It seems like NetherRealm Studios shot themselves in the foot yet again. The best solution for them was simply to provide equal treatment for both the male and female characters. Allowing them both to be scantily clad in terms of their designs, it would give just about everyone what they want in terms of eye candy. And for those not in favor it, they could provided different costumes that were more "practical".
I mean even the new shit wasn't really all that practical it just wasn't as over the top as Deception Onwards shit. Like they made a token effort to be sexy but I mean....it's like going to weed when you've been on black tar since like 02.

Well, for starters, the title implies it's a tournament despite there isnt one for most of the games (at least on lore, arcade is just you vs everyone)
The 1995 movie is a decent enough intro
One realm doesn't like other. So it attacks. There's a guy named Raiden who speaks with the Elder Gods but they're lazier than MK devs trying to make natural looking falls (I mean seriously, look at MK11 and how punching a character into the air with a killing blow makes them fall to the ground, get back up, just to pass out again). Anyways, there's like 5 or so evil sorcerers all trying to do their own evil thing and manipulate people into fighting each other instead of talking it out normally. Half the cast of MK9 dies through miscommunication. Anyways there's Shao Khan who's the big bad, the M. Bison of the MK world. I don't remember if he's the true mastermind or just being manipulated, there's a few reworks to his story. He's trying to attain a power and become god but the chosen one is Bruce Lee's distant cousin Liu Kang. (The atatatata bicycle kick guy). He defeats Shao Khan. Then there's this guy named Shinnok who is evil and a few characters have kids and apprentices now. I forgot what his deal was but he died like a b***h and now there's this chick named Kronika who, like her name implies, is a homie. She feeds on time? Something about constantly rebooting the timelines to drain the energy (yes that means reboots and alternate timelines are technically canon but changed). Liu Kang breaks her bald head like a coconut and becomes the new god, replacing the corrupted Raiden as a fire god.

the most bare bones version is thares an evil overlord from another dimension named Shao Khan who want to absorb earth into his empire, basically magically erge it into his lands, but he's not allowed to do that unless he and his champions can defeat earth's chosen champions, hence the fighting tournament.
It gets weirdly convoluted from there. weird split timeline bullshit, every evil wizard in his entourage has their own goals and motivations, etc

I feel like it would make sense to give Homelander an "Ego" Mechanic - where he can potentially buff himself via taunting his opponents but at the cost of making him wide open whilst using it. Maybe if you do not fill his Ego then he can enter a rage state that increases damage but makes his moves unsafe and takes more damage
Homelander should make you feel like you are playing an butthole (kinda like Johnny in MK and FANG in Street Fighter)
They should put Steven Seagal in there for a laugh, have him take no damage from any move in the game and reverse everything into a neck snap fatality.
Can someone explain to me how the actual Mortal Kombat works? You have two realms sending their fighting into a competition that will determinate the future of one of them, but you also have a bunch of characters that come from other realms. What would have happened if Scorpion won the tournament, would the win go to Netherrealm? The easy answer would be to say that the win goes to whatever side that character is fighting for, but this doesn't make sense, considering the only reason Bo'Rai Cho never entered the Mortal Kombat is because his victory would go to Outworld no matter what.
The Netherrealm had an agreement with Outworld and if Scorpion won the win would go to them. Basically the brackets were in place so Earthrealm could prove they had the right to face the champion, which was Goro
I think Scorpion would count as a hired mercenary just like Erron Black
so the win will go to outworld or whoever is hiring them
Raiden is just cheap and doesn't want to pay Bo Rai Cho, that and Bo Rai Cho still has to go back home to outworld so he most likely will be fricked there
You also have Kano and Shang himself fighting for Outworld despite being from Earthrealm. And before you say Shang wasn't technically part of the tournamnet, he used to be, he was the champion before Great Kung Lao. Clearly, anyone can fight for whichever side, like in professional sports, where clubs are supposes to represent a city, but most players arenlt even from the same country anymore.
So the real reason this doesn't make sense is because they really wanted to do

In The Boys Homelander, while still a Superman parody, is extremely underpowered by comparison to the original and even other Superman wannabes. He's essentially the big fish in a little pond of his fiction. While yes he can fly, has heat vision, enhanced vision, enhanced hearing, super strength, and enhanced durability, he can still be hurt with enough force.
Omni-Man is closer to Superman level, but lacks heat vision and ice breath for example. Here's some video comparisons.

is right, homelander relies entirely on being a regular functional human man who just happens to have every stat multiplied by a thousand, and who has laser eyes. His laser eyes are strong, sure, really strong, but Omni-Man stood up to that orbital blast from Cecil and only got a nosebleed. Homelander would posture and throw a few solid punches, maybe even make Omni-Man's head spin with a solid hook to the side of his head, if he caught him off guard, then Omni-Man would go serious and tear Homelander in half. Unless Homelander got way, way more competent real fricking quick a solid third of the Mortal Kombat cast could have a chance against him. Granted most MK characters would have no chance whatsoever (I mean, what's Johnny Cage gonna do? Punch him in the balls? He'd break every bone in his hand.)
So is the Invicible comic worth a read? I tried the Boys and honestly it felt on the same level as "adult shock value" as Sausage Party did.

The first season did a lot of things differently but I still felt it was alright. The successive seasons became increasingly hamfisted in their virtue signalling and in terms of padding out the plot by repeating character arcs.
