It is supposedly going to be set in "around modern times" so I think this reboot should make everyone happy from fans to "not yet" fans.

Rebooting is the most awesome power the industry's ever seen, but you wield it like a kid that found his dad’s gun. I’ll tell you the problem with the entertainment you're making here: It didn't require any creativity to produce it. You looked at what others had made and you replicated it. You didn't create the IP for yourself, so you don't do anything original with it.

It's mind-boggling how studios keep doing this shit when they know audiences are so fricking desperate for anything different and novel and not-a-reboot/requel/sequel/prequel/etc. that they'll flock to just about anything.

you don't get ESG money for making already diverse original IPs. you only get ESG money for adding diversity to existing IPs. And diversity means black people.

I mean, I would think you would want a person of color to represent Erf if a new alien species shows up, since that would be more representative of the planet as a whole.

That doesn't make sense though. First contact was 2063 which is relatively close but Starfleet was founded around 2130.

      >doesn't make sense though
I think it would be considered ok to tweak the timeline a little bit in the name of equity and inclusion.

putting aside the fact that fall guy doesn't look like a movie for male or female audiences and rather some attempt at both, part of the problem is that hollywood has crated their reputation and they will need to collectively pump out good movies continuously, possibly for years, before people start going to cinemas on blind faith that there is something worth seeing again

Fall guy took the name from & was supposed to be based on the TV show, they even mentioned putting the theme song in the movie. The movie having nothing in common with that show except the name and being completely garbage to boot is why it failed

nah that's not good enough. Star Wars has demonstrated that modern writers fricking despise actual aliens in scifi because they can't be used to tick boxes and also imply a sense of a escapism which is their least favorite thing. Movies are the real world and must be used to influence the real world not escape from it for a night of fun.

The only new Trek I want is a Captain Boimler series.

I can get the idea of wanting to exploit existing properties that have sat, but come on. They're going to cast Kirk and Spock again? Most people who were really nostalgic about those old scientists are in their 60s or 70s now.
Why not try something slightly more modern like a TNG era revival?

Those things you're rebooting, they already exists. They're done. Complete. People can just watch them right now and don't have to wait around for the next one to come out.
