>>one of the scariest Hollywood movies
I mean he’s kind of right though. As far as big budget Hollywood horror movies in the last 25 years this is definitely in the top 5. What’s scarier? Would be genuinely curious if you had an answer for this. Conjuring? Paranormal Activity? Don’t think so.
Sinister is the only thing in the 21st century that comes close
Correct take.
Damn the first hour or so of Sinister is legit the best big budget horror film of last 20 years and it's not even close, infrickincredible.
But when you check the OST and see the tracklists and the dude that worked on original compositions you can understand why it's so kino.
The Ring's OST is god damn solid too
Magical
Mein guy. I was just thinking that movie as I entered the thread. The plot and concept of it is fantastic.
You mean up until the gay demon moves his face on the laptop screen? Then yea it was 10/10 horror kino
OH NO, A WOMAN
ARGH FRICK
I wasn’t arguing that The Ring is particularly scary in general but it’s relatively scary for a “Hollywood” horror movie, aka a movie that has tons of marketing and an A-list actress (at the time) like Naomi Watts
Agreed
1/15th of the budget of The Ring and I don’t think it had that wide of a release
The Grudge. Some of those scenes fricked me up
Yeah I don't think Conjuring or PA even come close to The Ring. I would probably unironically put forward The Woman in Black as a contender, but Ring wins easily again
all of them? Paranormal activity, blair witch project, hereditary, the night house, the lighthouse, midsommer
Blair Witch maybe but the rest of your list is a joke
you are moronic paranormal activity 1 was creepier than cute Japanese girl jump scares.
bad take. paranormal activity isn't even a movie let alone a horror movie
Agree to disagree. I think PA is really poor even just on a script level, let alone poorly produced. Characters were bland and lore was just generic cult shit
Did the ring even have jump scares? I dont remember any, it was mostly atmospheric iirc
the closet girl is one of the most well known jump scares of all time
yep it was one of the 2 jumpscares in the film.
the other one was the centipede in the files
Right and it’s literally at the very beginning, just to frick with the audience. It’s not like the movie is relying on jump scares to have an effect throughout the runtime
Nah, i remembered this movie for the atmosphere, it's literally dripping with soul. The 2 jumpscares weren't necessary, but didn't detract from the experience in the slightest.
>hereditary, the night house, the lighthouse, midsommer
>Paranormal Activity scarier than The Ring
>a24soyjak.png
Those A24 films aren’t anywhere near the same league as The Ring, the movie is dripping with unironic soul and a concrete vision
A24 “horror” movies are half baked drama films with forced horror aspects to throw you off
The Ring is very much like those A24 masturbations, Americans cant watch something simple and effective without injecting arts fartsy bullshit
have a nice day
Hereditary but I wouldn't even say it scared me per se, more that it was depressing as shit and left me in an awful mood.
>though
Concession accepted
It remains one of the best horror movies ever made.
I also find it to be better than the Japanese one.
No one even really cared about this movie.
Were you even born then? It was a huge sensation, it made a quarter billion and was all over pop culture
There was a giant community of The Ring fans up until around 2009 or so. Tons of forums, even meetups. I was there. I miss it all. It was a great cultural phenomenon.
DIssecting the tape, making copies of VHS and DVDs with the cursed video and leaving it in public places. Good times
The ring community was pretty chill. The book and how deep and broad the story gets between all the media was pretty intense.
Yeah it was. Shame about the ring 2, it sucked hard. Tanked the franchise on the spot and it never recovered. And the newest rings movie, jesus christ, what the frick were they smoking
Loved the original and somehow liked the american remake even more. Holds up really well too, rewatched it recently and still gave me the creeps.
They really nailed the gloomy rainy atmosphere and paired it up with the soundtrack perfectly.
The eeriness of the tape contributed too. It really seemed like something a girl could've imagined, with the mom turning around to look at the camera but there's no reflection in the mirror. Pure imagination
>cheap american remake of an asian horror classic
>scary
lol
lmao even
One of the rare cases where the remake was better. Can't say the same about Shutter.
I love this series even if the sequels both US and JP suck ass. Sadako 2019 sucked but the main actress was cute. The only good bit was the old wheelchair man
grudge was scary but shutter and other thai terrors make me watch their movie once is more than enough
Literally everything American is a ripoff of something else. The country has only existed for 200 years ffs
I would genuinely love to put a gun to the head of anyone who likes the shitty American remake of the Ring and pull the trigger. What an absolute moron opinion. Americans are so obsessed with making things grotesque and unambiguous, their tastes are not at all compatible with Japanese horror.
