Tony Soprano got shot in the head and there is literally no evidence to support anything else.
Multiple times in season 6, characters theorize about what death is like. Silvio experiences a "brush" with death and feels the silence and surprise before realizing it wasn't him who just got shot. Bobby Bacala announces this theory and it's even repeated later for the idiots who missed it.

Nothing in the final scene suggest he was killed. It was done as a cliffhanger on purpose - open to interpretation.

I feel like when something is left open-ended it usually implies the bad or negative inclined ending but the author was too much of a pussy to take responsibility.

Or it shows Meadow entering the restaurant because David Chase is a hack who couldn't figure out how to end the show so he did a cliffhanger? It's not as complicated as you think it is. Tony could be dead, could be not. That's the point. Nothing in the scene points to either way, anything is possible.

For me the central question isn’t whether or not he died, it’s whether or not that was the worst possible outcome given the fates of the other characters we saw. The other possibilities were dementia, coma, prison, or life just puttering on with his c**t wife and shithead kids.

          Anonymous

For me, the central question is, what became of his family after his death?

They certainly wouldn't have had the same financial resources. Nobody would even know how to access Tony's various hidden piles of wealth. They might get some token payments from the mob for a little while but that would quickly dry up too with how petty Paulie and Chris are.

Yet it's hard to imagine Carmella cutting down on her fancy expenditure? She would probably drive the family to bankruptcy. Meadow would have to leave college to help out and with no degree she won't get much of a job. AJ wouldn't have a shot with his grades. The stress of Tony being killed and their poverty would drive Carmella to drug abuse, without a doubt. She would then by prostituting Meadow and AJ on the streets for drug money. Possibly in the black parts of town.

Honestly, I think Paulie set him up. There are a couple of pretty heavy-handed scenes that point to this during the final episode. 26. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Idk why people are so adamant that Tony got killed and there isn't any room for interpretation. Yeah the scene is set up to look like an incoming hit reminiscent to the rest of the series, but there's never any definitive proof. Remember the scene is meant to be from Tony's perspective. He watches every person that comes through the door and when Meadow is shown walking up to the restaurant there's no one else on the street. So an alternative explanation is this scene represents his state of paranoia that will linger in his mind for the rest of his life regardless of how many enemies he gets rid of. The ending IS meant to be ambiguous regardless of what autists think.

      Anonymous

Yes exactly. Some anon posted a relatively recent interview with the writers as "proof" where they "confirmed" that having Tony explicitly whacked on-screen was an idea on the table, but was ultimately cut for the ending to remain ambiguous. OP was absolutely right & this thread of disgruntled midwits here to insist that something that suggestively happened happened objectively - the evidence being: _____ "because it was hinted at"

The Boy Scouts ordered a side of rice and he had a panic attack and went face down in the onion rings.

the whole point of the scene is that he now lives, until his death, in constant fear
the tension just builds and builds
i never noticed that he sees himself though
could be a dream the whole season
    who gives a shit
    onion rings
i just remember being pissed off at how that scene drags, i found it kind of funny, but it really just pissed me off, that bit of her parking especially
