smoked 40-60 cigs a day for 8 years. Wanted to quit for years, didn't enjoy it. Just quit one day.

Sure I had abstinences. The first 2 weeks were hard due to physical addiction, and took about a year before my mental cravings went away.

Thats only because cigarettes are able to be bought from any corner store or bummed from someine instantly. If heroin was that easy to procure its a different ballgame altogether.
Quitting heroin was borderline impossible, couldnt get up or go outside or eat or drink or sleep, vomiting bile for days and my entire body on fire.
quitting cigarettes was kind of annoying for a week or so, mostly a mental thing.

          Anonymous

Nah, you can lock someone in a room for 10 days and they've kicked their cravings for heroin. You can lock someone up for 20 years and they could still smoke a cigarette right out of gate. That's why there's no detox centres for smoking, it's with you for life

I mean he isn't exactly wrong. You're just addicted to the pleasure, nicotine induces structural changes to your brain to make you want it more

            Anonymous

Those are acute withdrawals for those ten days. After that you still have a lifetime of post-acute withdrawals like cravings, like any addiction. Theres no detox centers for smoking because there arent any debilitating acute withdrawal symptoms. You mostly just skip to the mental part of kicking the addiftion , it's a million times easier.

              Anonymous

Like the other anon said, I can get a cigarette in my hand in less than 5 minutes, that in itself make quitting a lot harder. And the fact that it has no debilitating effects from withdrawal also make you far more likely to just smoke again

I look young for my age and it finally dawned on me that I'm going to be old someday. I love pussy too much and like the fact I look young so frick smoking. Not saying nicotine isn't physically addictive, but it's the same as gambling addicts. It's a fricking joke and can easily be curbed with proper diet, exercise and sleep. You're just a fricking slob if you can't quit and need books and patches/gum to help. No will power whatsoever.

I've heard people say this a lot with alcohol that drinking breaks up boring evenings and how being sober is just so boring. Same thing with drinking/getting drunk at social events. I never understood it. Seems like normies should be happy being sober.

Based nailbiter. I'll even chew off the skin around the nails too. Thankfully they don't look too bad, but if anyone looked at them up close they'd be able to tell. As a kid I used to do the same thing with my toenails. I stopped because I chipped a tooth on my big toenail. Every now and then though I'll go in for a little treat after cutting my toenails.

I've got naturally weak front teeth (my father smashed his diving into a swimming pool and had to wear caps for his adult life), one of them has just been slowly grinding down over the years. Still can't stop.

Aerosol isn't good for you. The only difference is that long-term studies aren't going to be done with vaping until they have data from 10+ years. I guarantee you that vaping will prove to be harmful for you, possibly not as bad as smoking, with vapers sitting in the shit groups of disease in every long-term study of it.
But feel free to risk it. No rightminded person is going to recommend going over to vaping as a way of stopping smoking, unless you can quit vaping 100% easier.

No you don't you absolutely brainsapped moron
You weren't made to love smoking, you don't "love" smoking any more than you're "rich" for taking out a loan
or any more than people's brains are hardwired to love midget amputee porn before birth
They do it anyway because they took out loans on their happiness (dopamine, serotonin, whatever): happiness NOW for about 5 minutes and pay it back later,
then upon getting deeper and deeper in debt all they can do is take out loans
      You need to declare bankruptcy!

If you could feel right now how you'd feel just 3 months from now without doing your thing, smoking, drinking, porn, whatever, you'd take that feeling over the next cigarette, drink, or fap every time

I couldn't shake the cravings after 2 or 3 drinks and would always crack and smoke so I just didn't drink for 6 months (the duration of the patch cycle and then some time after to be sure). I sometimes still get a craving for one after some drinks but it's much much easier to ignore now.

Idk, you have to actually want to quit and then quitting is pretty easy. I smoked for 17 years too so it's not like that other anon who smoked for 6 months then quit (doesn't know what the frick he's talking about).

If you have a stubborn personality trait then quitting is easy. You can train yourself to use it to your advantage, the harder something is to quit, the more it will incentivise you to keep away from it because you're too stubborn to give in (and part of you enjoy the torment and challenge that comes with it).

Just tried keeping my mind occupied on something. Actually started playing video games again. I hadn't played anything during the last generation so there's a frick load of games available and they're all cheap. Legitimately helped me during the first few weeks because whenever I got bored I'd start thinking about buying a bottle. After a bit more than a month I stopped thinking about booze completely.

            Anonymous

See I already play vidya and drink.

Not him but I can pretty much quit smoking and drinking easily if I have unlimited access to sex and food instead. Just take a week or two off work and go somewhere quiet with the gf and just bang it out

            >gf
            Yeah no

Alcoholism actually sucks though anon. I picked it up during covid, before I'd drink maybe once every 2 weeks, once a month if I had a bad time.
Started working from home, started drinking near daily since I had nothing to do, became a functional alcoholic, but now I can't go more than a few days without drinking at most. It's actually awful, I'll catch myself not thinking about it, going out and buying a bottle when I was trying to convince myself for the past few days to just stop.

Picked it up during covid too man

I understand that not everyone has the same experience with nicotine, but I just can't imagine not being able to go cold turkey. I believe people when they say it's tough, but it's never been for me. Back when I lived in Japan you could smoke EVERYWHERE: bars, restaurants, arcades, etc. So naturally it was a thing I picked up because I hung out exclusively with degenerate partiers. After I moved back to America I just never bought another pack and never thought about it. Honestly I've had a tougher time putting down kratom, not that I've really tried too hard with that one.

Take a look at something like food, which isn't even chemically addictive like nicotine. Even so, some people are genetically predisposed to find it unfathomably hard to lose weight. We can't step into their brains so we can't accurately gauge how it feels for them.
      >IDGI why do people say it's hard to quite

Speaking of addiction, how bad is Internet addiction for the brain? Let's say hypothetically that you've been browsing the Internet and playing video games on average 8 hours a day for 20 years, how would that affect your cognitive abilities?

I think it’s just how your brain is wired. I know people that struggle huge with food, or porn like you, some that gamble away all their money because they can’t stop. I don’t have issues with any of that shit even a little bit. But drugs frick me up. And none of above people have issues with drugs and mostly not the other issues the others have. I think we are all just wired a bit different. The only constant is addiction seems to plague most people in some form or other
