Have any other cartoons managed to surpass OTGW in terms of storytelling and being consistently good throughout?

The Life & Times of Tim came out 14 years ago
Not really and I doubt we'll see anything manage to do so far a long time, it really was a perfect storm of great inspiration material, simple but strong story and characters, limited run, appealing themes, great music, honest artistic approach, no loose ends, quality production value etc. That's fine too, it deserves a long reign.
>Not really and I doubt we'll see anything manage to do so far a long time
Eh, I could think of at least a few. Then again, I thought it was stronger in certain aspects than others.
Same universe
Frick you Clarence sucks ass
Actually true.
Has there been any new comics after the dream fly trap in which Beatrice saw their world?
Are there any plans for more OTGW comics?
there's Circus Friends (which has already been storytimed), and the Benevolent Sisters of Charity which came out a few years back. Had a fun read on both of those.
Thanks, gonna have to check them out. Though maybe I'll wait til Halloween.
There’s even an issue that takes place during Halloween
It's just Gravity Flops 2.0
Go to bed, Alex.
Read slower
>Have any other cartoons managed to surpass OTGW in terms of storytelling and being consistently good throughout?
how can they without being a limited series?
>Gets mogged by SU
>Gargen
This ship is doomed from the start.
That was a good thread when we first read that comic.
surprised anyone saved that
You know, I don't think it was THAT good.
What story? Are you high?
The story was two step brothers trying to get out of the woods while be tempted by the beast
Wirt learns how much he cares for Greg
Greg learns that he needs to always have hope
Beatrice learns to own up to her mistakes
Woodsman learns to let go and not be controlled
Pretty solid story
it was a miniseries so it got a lot more opportunity to choose scope and pacing which helped it a ton, it's simply much harder to make a good story when you have to fit into a more standard season length one way or another
>Fox Spirit Matchmaker
>Development of two plots: Plot of the past and plot of the present
>Management of different secondary characters for each season
I dunno, but I can say this probably the last cartoon with a main male character that's cute and nerdish.ohpxs
Over The Garden Wall might be the last good TV cartoon.
not really.
If not for Smiling Friends I’d say you were right
I didn't care for OTGW. The younger brother was painfully annoying.
Aside from the comics, not really. The 'Fricked Up Alice in Wonderland' trope is extremely hard to pull off well in kids animation for the main reason that it requires a brief as specific as OTGW's minisode format to be any good. Overstretch it and you'll end up losing the pace, add too much to a 10 min episode and you'll end up rendering the episode unpalatable for the younger audience. The only show I've seen come remotely close (albeit from an opposite angle of Sci-fi) is Owen Dennis' Infinity Train, which got shat on so hard by execs that it got effectively rendered comatose in the middle of its run.
It didn't need an ending tbh. Completely ruined the sense of mystery and esoteric nature by making it a shitty "what if they were in purgatory or dead the whole time" creepypasta-tier twist.
was kinda light on story, but the characters were great, and only Amphibia s1 had the sort of kino comfy atmosphere OTGW had.
>consistently good throughout?
it's not even two hours long
It was awful, it only has one good chapter
I'm not surprised that some of you like it because you like su and crap.related
>Over the Garden Wall tier shows
Arcane
Maya and the Three
Invincible
Primal
Undone
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
I finally watched Arcane, it was good I guess.
>Dark Crystal
Not even close to OTGW. Shame because I really wanted to like it.

I don’t respect you enough to give a (you)
I dropped that shit after the potato and molesters episode
MLP-tier
>molesters
yeah, those frogs are creepy.
>being this easily filtered
truly pathetic
Best girl
based and true
this show has a lot of best girls
this is one of those he uses the bell to frick her comics, isn't it?
no, because that's short.
>Have any other cartoons managed to surpass OTGW in terms of storytelling and being consistently good throughout?
lol i dunno, maybe maybe not
The characters look creepy to me, and the color palette. It's fever dreamish to me.
I really liked Centaurworld a lot, but I'm a massive gay for the kind of musicals where the songs are an integral part of the storytelling and characterisation. I haven't really seen a lot of that kind of thing in cartoons outside of things like Disney movies.
