They need to make a true sequel

honestly they should have never made a sequel, it was fine as a stand alone film especially since the ending pretty much resolved the conflict

You can't make movies like that anymore and what I mean by that is good movies.

honestly they should have never made a sequel, it was fine as a stand alone film especially since the ending pretty much resolved the conflict

Sequel was just a stupid cash grab that Del Toro had no part in. But you know these big studios have the rights to the name of something amazing you made so that they can simply shit on it later.

even if Del Toro was involved I doubt it would have been good, especially when you see some of his ideas for a potential sequel and realize some of the most moronic parts of it unironically came from him, sure it would have been better than what we got but thats not saying much

It was a loveletter, hand written by someone who is passionate about the genre. The fact that you think it was just OK means you didn't really love giant robots/giant monster movies. Hollywood hated working with Del Toro because of his desire to do the movie right and have rich detail and vibrancy in the filmmaking.

Del Toro knows frick all about mecha.

Why did Del Toro b***h out of this franchise?

      Anonymous

You idiot, Warner Bros fricking hated working with him, and they actively sabotaged the first film by not advertising it and not making dedicated product lines to get kids engaged with it until after the release. They wanted it to fail to fire him, take the rights and turn around and make cookie cutter bargain bin Pac Rim sequels until the money dried up. WB successfully cucked DelToro out of making further movies, they took their shot with PR2, and they failed miserably to get audiences to care about their soulless garbage. Do not blame Del Toro, he's a sweet man that actually cared.

It's actually pretty damn good in my opinion. Yeah, it's a bit cheesy but it's a movie about frick huge robots killing giant genetically engineered space aliens, it's to be expected. If you're not going in expecting a serious story and you're just expecting cool fights then you will really enjoy your time.

I agree with this. If you willingly decided to watch this movie and you dont get what you wanted you have to be moronic. It delivers. If you dont like robot punch mosta dont watch this

A Japanese girl I knew at uni kept saying how much she liked the movie and what a cute couple the main pilots were. Do... do you think she might have been dropping a hint? I never did ask her out before she moved back to Japan. I did get her a Gypsy Danger figure for Christmas, but forgot to bring it when I saw her last.

      >immediately kill off the two more interesting and cool mechs
Gypsy Danger is great, and the 3 armed one was just chink pandering.
      >all the kaijus fought look the same, even worse when up close which is how all the fights go
You're telling me the knifehead one, the gorilla one, and the giant bat one all looked the same to you?
      >instakill hax sword only used once
Twice, once to kill the bat and once again at the end, but yes it's silly they didn't use it sooner.
      >not even use the chest blaster at all
      True.
      >human characters are all lame and forgettable, i dont even remember what the main character dude looked like
      True.

Yes. Slow movement implies weight. Most kaiju sequels can't seem to understand this. It's why Godzilla vs Kong and Pacific Rim 2's actions scenes completely suck.

Yes. So far it's been a better live action mecha film than anything Japan has put out. The opening 10-15min before the opening title is pure kino.
