Picard

Is this show any good? I just started watching it. So far it doesn't have that star trek atmosphere like the old one from the 90s. Its more like a drama with just a few space ship scenes sprinkled around here and there. Is it worth sticking it out or should I just stop investing my time into it now?

I only ever watched Star Trek The next generation, the one from the 90s. Which one are you talking about from 2005?

So are you saying I shouldn't even watch this season 3 then? Because I'm watching episode 1 right now.

I meant Star Trek ran from 1966-2005. There were breaks but that is the main continuity. From 2009 on is a different continuity but people claim it’s all the same. It’s not. It’s Star Trek in name only.

You might like it but as someone who grew up with it, it’s simply insulting.

no, season 1 is absolutely the most vile trek show ever made.
the last episode is the biggest, steaming pile of shit known to men.
I didnt watch season 2, even though it has a cool borg concept, its ruined by being too woke.
third season is the only 1 that should be watched. it does a complete 360 and is actually good.

Picard season 1 is The Last Jedi of Star Trek. Season 2 is current year woke trash. Season 3 is flawed but ok and tries to give the TNG crew the send off they never got in the movies

I only found Season 3 acceptable. Season 1 woke garbage. season 2 as well. couldnt finish season 1. didnt bother with season 2 it sounded even worse. but yeah S3 was OK, some moments better than others. and you can watch s3 and ignore the other seasons it hardly matters its just a big ole bunch of bullshit.

Seasons 1 and 2 were a travesty. Season 3 was mediocre but we get to see the original crew and Enterprise D again, which almost makes up for it. The writing is still terrible though. No decent Trek since Enterprise. Very disappointing.

I find it extremely infuriating that people defend season 3. Season 3 is still shit to an unacceptable extent, the first two seasons being EVEN worse does not serve to defend season 3.

There are people that still b***h about VOY and ENT and say those aren't "proper Trek" either but you can't in good faith argue that the worst of VOY still wasn't better than any of the garbage from Hispanic S1 and S2. I'm just saying that in the same way VOY or ENT is still leaps and bounds better than modern trek, so to is the third season of Hispanic. It's fricking night and day because it was overseen by an actual fan of TNG.

I did not care for the first 3 seasons at all. Completely skipped season 4. Season 5 however, I actually found to be watchable. Commander Rainer was a total breath of fresh air, he legit got to harp on the shit that I personally found annoying with the whole crew dynamic. And even though the whole season was just one mission again the pacing was way better and it at least felt like the first Abrams Trek movie. Again, not necessarily my flavor of Trek, but still watchable.

Wouldn't go so far, if season 1 is a diarrhea sandwich, season 3 is rotten apple.
It's still nytrek, my complaints would be:
      >nobody uses phasers, instead they use laser blasters (that don't even seem to have stun setting)
      >constant moronic action scene (the entire season begins with Beverly in a shootout)
      >Picard doesn't act like himself, he lacks any authority and wisdom
      >plots twist that don't make any sense

It's stupid as frick but an even bigger problem for me is what is the point
What is the subtext, what it is saying, what does it add to the story

I can only see two things. One, demoralize white men. Let's not go there for once and work within the story. The second thing is it lets them have an easy excuse or answer to the question "Why doesn't starfleet help with this?"
An easy way to get Picard on his own.

But then my question is what does THAT add. If it's just an answer to why doesn't a fleet show up, no one cares. Who cares. extremely easy to make any excuse

How does making Picard isolated help in any way

Keep the story exactly the same but Picard goes in, asks for help, and Starfleet is like "Oh Picard, we don't see anything here, but given your past, of course we will give you the crew and the ship you need to investigate this matter. We're fully behind you, we owe you a debt that can never be repayed and sending you on an adventure like you ask is the least we can offer

Why not do that? They just want people to feel shitty and divided instead of working together. The opposite of what this whole stupid universe is supposed to be about

A lot of genres like sci-fi and horror are just dead because there is no originality and there are no niche creators who that's their thing and they do it well.
All the past guys are either dead or no longer in the business so you stuck with people who weren't really fans trying to ape a style or genre tropes.
Copying a painting and not understand the thought process or nuances. Or in a lot of cases no understanding of the fundamentals.
It's crazy how the people writing on Picard have no sense of subtly. The like to bring up the argument that Star Trek always had social commentary but ignore the fact they weren't direct about. There was a finesse that most of these people now don't understand.
And it's not just the west either. Chinks and Japs doing sci fi are essentially doing foreign tribute acts.

This is a rhetorical post. The answer is dumb writers wanted to make a silly scene that shows how she's a reckless speed demon archtype pilot, I am meant to question whether she is capable only for her to prove that she is when she pulls off a daring maneuver later
And the idea of something like crew morale or Starfleet working together in a professional, naval-like manner befitting of officers - asking for that from these writers is like asking for a Filet Mignon from McDonalds, it's simply not on the menu and if it was you wouldn't want it

I stopped giving a shit somewhere in STD season 2
I'm only watching Picard S3 now. I watched S1 of it (hatewatch to mock it) and dropped it halfway through S2 (unbearably bad)

If I liked eating dogshit before it somehow became worse there wouldn't be anything wrong with eating more of it just to see what it was like.

I suppose, it’s your time to waste. I made it through seasons 1 of STD and Pic and wish I hadn’t bothered. Ymmv

    >season 3 drops almost everything from s1 and 2 because they're terrible and everyone hates them
    >except 60 year old black woman warrior who shows up at the beginning and end to ruin all of her scenes
Even when trying to make an apology season, they still couldn't commit.

If they thought fans just wanted references to be happy they were right and wrong. Lots of tards loved all the references but the rest of us didn’t.

      It clearly says P.I. card.
Can't believe they made an entire show about Picard larping as Dixon Hill in the holodeck.

    When the Captain was like
    >We come in peace
and the Klingon guy starts screaming and going
    >NO THEY DON'T THATS BULLSHIT THEY'RE FRICKING LIARS, FRICKING LIARS
I really related to him. That's how I feel. They're all fricking liars.

    >We're about inclusivity! Diversity!
NO! NO THEY AREN'T! THEY EXCLUDE ANYONE WITH A DIFFERENT LINE OF THOUGHT! THEY ARE LIARS!

No. Season 3 is halfway decent. Just abandon 1 and skip 2.

JJ getting both star trek and star wars is just insane. How was this allowed. You can not put the same person in charge of the two different franchises like that.

He always wanted to work on Star Wars, but turning Star Trek into Star Wars was the next best thing for him. The first two reboot movies were not total failures so they thought he'd be a good choice for Star Wars.

    >Good afternoon
    >I believe it is afternoon in the Sol system

I think the line was serious
I don't think the writer recognized the problem
it wasn't delivered like it was a joke in that way

Season 1: an interesting premise ruined by bad execution
Season 2: a retread of STIV and ruined by COVID filming
Season 3: it's not highbrow sci-fi and solves no ethical dilemmas, but it's a better execution of The Last Jedi and is a much better ending to that crew's story than Nemesis

First two seasons were awful self-indulgent trash.
Third season gives the fans what they wanted to an extent, but they ruined a character and had a 35yo playing a 20yo.

    >SHAW: So… so… maybe you get them to come to you.
    >SEVEN: How?
    >SHAW: Bait them. Steal their pot.
    >SEVEN: Pot? I'm assuming you're not referring to cannabis.
    >SHAW: Sadly, no.
