      Is this a joke?

Nope, this is not a joke. If this film were in live-action, it would still be the same film.

You could just say you don't want a movie based on Pharrell and not pretend they didn't know why they wanted to use lego. Plenty of stuff in that trailer that's too crazy to look good in live action

Hollywood is such an actual fricking joke, I genuinely don't understand how something like this gets millions of dollars poured into it.

Pharrell is a glorified intersection point between Weird Al and Barney the dinosaur. He scores most of his hits by making them tie-ins in Despicable Me and Spongebob movies
MIllions of kids give him exposure on spotfy, but he is not a talking to anyone above 12 so he remains somewhat under the radar

this kinda broke my mind in a weird way ngl
      >back when lego batman and ninjago movies came out
      >some watchmojo ripoff makes a video called "top 10 lego movies we want to see."
      >a bunch of them were some random shit like Star trek, Mad Max, and others
      >at the time I thought to myself "pffft. There's no way lego will make a lego movie based on those, they weren't close enough to the lego brand or super duper mainstream."
      >Then I see this shit based on a guy I never fricking heard of
      >whats going on?

      NO MATTER NOW THIN
      NO MATTER HOW THICK

He's the guy who sings "Legend of the Penis" for Daft Punk.

This looks like one of those fanmade Lego movie videos I keep seeing on YouTube. It doesn't have as much charm as the original Lego movies.
Like, who even cares about Pharrell Williams when the average normie knows him as the guy that wrote happy.
I miss the old Lego movies, I miss Emmet, I miss Lucy, I miss Lego Batman.

Probably done on purpose for budgetary reasons. I can't imagine them spending the 60-100m the previous Lego films did.
I'd be shocked if this has a budget over 30m.

Assuming the BLM protest scene that got leaked before this movie was even announced is still in it there will be a ton of rage bait generated by that

Reminder that this literally only exists to maintain Universal's grip on the Lego film rights. Deal was signed in 2020 and they've yet to produce anything, expires in 2025 otherwise so they shat this out.

Let WB have the rights back, cowards.

I hope universal has the balls to make this PG-13.

It's mainly so Universal can retain the rights to LEGO movies. Lego Ninjago flopped and Lego Movie 2 kinda floundered. It would be a serious waste to lose out on the assets made for these movies and go back to Clutch Powers era stuff, so now we're getting Lego Snoop Dogg. Something kinda shocking that might just be crazy enough to break even
