Current best fan theory is they all died on June 19th 1955 in some sort of vehicle accident(which binds them together), despite otherwise very different lives.

Yellow got hit by a car in his lovely neighborhood, Duck had a RAF plane crash and probably died of dehydration, and Red got lost in his car and ended up driving into and drowning in a lake

I have my own little theory that don't hug me I'm scared is a puppet show that never got picked up by a network and the creator became overly attached and is still working on it but she is the only one left and can't manage by herself so what's going on is mostly the result of confusion.
There are no scripts, no puppeteers, no backgrounds, there are no cameramen so we mostly get the same camera angles. The characters are just there, confused, no idea what to do, trying their best
That's why they don't have official names either, they never decided what their names should be

YG said in episode 3 that a family might be a group who ‘die on the same day in the same style of accident, but in different locations’ and RG seemingly confirms it.

YG seemingly died from a car wreak, so some sort of vehicle accident is the base. Duck dies of dehydration, but we also know he’s a military pilot, so he probably crashed somewhere isolated and died.

Red Guy apparently drowns in a lake, and the only time we’ve seen him in a traffic accident was at the end of episode 5 where he got stranded.

Current theory is the creators don't care about that and explicitly said so when Duck shredded the book with his personal

Is there a reason why British humor/comedy generally is way better than American humor?

From what I can tell, Brits have a lot of intelligent writers with more creative control of the work. TV channels gave a lot of freedom as long as you got viewers. We also had a LOT of radio comedies from the 60s to the 80s with a low barrier to entry which relied entirely on good writing which let groups like Monty Python grow big before they even appeared on television.
Nowadays it's not as good but that era has at least inspired people to keep running with the cultural torch.
Americans can be funny but they seem to have had a higher barrier to entry outside of standup so you filter out actual potentially witty but shy writers and only get Hollywood schmoozers with a very specific type of humour.

Very short seasons. With only 6 episodes you can cram in the best stuff instead of trying to spread it out over 26. Although with streaming US stuff has started to shorten now too.

Dunno about other channels but the BBC is entirely funded by tax payers money. It means they can just do what they want without execs getting at them to broaden their appeal so they can get more advertisers on board. This is kinda moot thought for DHMIS since they were on Channel 4.
