All deaths in superhero comics are dumb because they only stick if a character is unpopular enough that readers don't care about them dying.

This. Death has more permeance in video games than cape comics.

            Twice as bright

Hats off to the writers making the annoying fatass traitor from the first game, into the emotional heart of the second. Infamous is a game where it feels good to be evil in the first game, and then good in the second, just because of how the npcs treated you in both. Also the second game doesn't let you shoot black lightning out of your fingers when you go full evil which is a major downside, instead you get that lame red lightning wedge.

              Anonymous

Yea, it's a weird tradeoff that we got a more grounded character and story with the second game, but at the cost of the good/evil paths kind of becoming meaningless since they don't have much in the way of any differences beyond choosing to copy a copy from one of the two prostitutes, and even that becomes moot since finishing on both paths lets you play around with both powers. Real shame how they dropped the ball with Second Son, where it feels like they put more effort into the evil path, since Delsin really gets into the whole power hungry mood. Though even that path is marred by some dumb moments like the brother's death scene not changing even on the evil path where he should have at least been disappointed that Delsin was becoming a monster

I liked how the moral choice in 2 changed from Good/Evil to Humans/Conduits.
And yeah the evil path in Second Son feels half-baked since you can tell Sucker Punch were rushing to get the game out in time for the PS4's launch window.

                Anonymous

Rushed, yea, but it did feel more appropriate for Delsin with the way he's obsessed with acquiring new powers versus the good path where he just feels really generic in his actions and speech, like they just had him spout off all the "killing is badong" and "muh freedom for conduits"

Isn't the Metal Gear series filled with characters who die only to get brought back in later games because of popularity?

            Anonymous

Nope, everyone who has died has stayed dead. The only character who returned from death was Liquid, and even then that was only in MGS2, because Ocelot had latent spiritual powers like his father, The Sorrow, and inadvertently tapped into them during the ship and Big Shell incidents. After that, Ocelot got rid of Liquid's arm and replaced it with a prosthetic lookalike while using hypnosis to pretend he had been fully possessed.
Now it should be pointed out that Liquid was in the early draft of MGS2, where he was invading some Middle Eastern country, and there it sounded like he was completely intact, which I can only guess maybe meant Kojima did envision him not dying from FOXDIE

Liquid also "dies" and comes back about 3 or 4 times before FoxDie at the end of MGS.

Not sure why you expect a guest character to die off for good when they're just there for fanservice.
Now, in the case of the main characters, it seems like there's only very specific ways that you can "die", which like

Kingdom Heats is a bizarre case because the actual Disney characters that die just stay dead for whatever reason. Like, Clayton is just gone.

where it seems like you have to give in entirely to darkness to croak. Otherwise, people instead just break apart into a heartless and nobody, and can then come back together if those two parts are vanquished, since that was the whole thing with Xehanort during the original saga

I was talking about Sephiroth refusing to die even in canon considering he seems to have discovered time travel.
KH did retcon in a way for characters to ressurect, but it was still a retcon to undue death. Just like a character getting disintegrated turns into 'they were actually sent to the shadow realm'.

Well who knows what's going on with the remake since we've got like a decade before Nomura is done with that, unless the final installment comes out a lot faster after the new one dropping soon.

As for KH, it does get a bit complicated since we're now meant to assume some of the Nobodies may not have actually been Nobodies, or at least not proper ones like Roxas and Axel. I mean, there's all that crap about Larxene and Marluxia apparently being from the era of the original Keyblade war, so god knows what the hell that maniac Nomura has in mind with how he treats "death"

            >Sephiroth refusing to die.
Sephiroth refusing to die actually makes sense in the narrative, though.
Dude got tossed into the fricking lifestream back in Nibelheim when Cloud stabbed him in the reactor. He's just pumped full of so many Jenova cells he can't rejoin the lifestream because Jenova is a foreign entity not native to Gaia and thus can't be recycled, and Sephiroth has basically become a planetary parasite thanks to being half The Thing.

In Kingdom Hearts, Sephiroth isn't Sephiroth from the Hit Video Game Final Fantasy VII. He's just Cloud's edginess escaping from his body. He keeps showing up because Cloud is still around.

Or so I recall from way back in KH and KHII. Haven't played three.

Dante's crazy hard to kill, especially since several of those stabbings are basically him flexing his power. I think it was only in the first anime where he was legitimately overwhelmed, since he was knocked out for several minutes and had to get woke up by the little girl who had befriended him

He also could have died to Vergil at the top of the tower in 3, or fake Mundus from the same game.

                Anonymous

While he was bested by Vergil, he only stayed down for like a minute before his demon power finally kicked in. Of course Vergil didn't seem to be quite trying to kill him, at least not in that moment as he just wanted the other half of the pendant. Then when it came to Arkham, Dante probably would have won out eventually since Arkham's body wasn't able to fully wield Sparda's power, which was why he mutated the way he did.

                Anonymous

Yea but Dante/Vergil wouldn't have teamed up unless it was necessary, and Sparda's power while not fully being utilized by Arkham it was still Sparda's power thus they're "weak" to it

Mar-vell touching giga-cancer-juice and subsequently dying is less dumb than Sara dying of Covid. In part because introducing covid is clearly supposed to be a direct 1:1 translation of the real world in order for this moral to stick, but in the real world, the covid vaccines didn't stop or prevent transmission, and the decreased mortality claims weren't controlled for comorbidities.
But perhaps more importantly, a mutant like Sara couldn't possibly be expected to have been comprehensively tested for covid vaccines (not that the ones for regular people were tested either) and she could realistically assume she's not even capable of being infected given how she's half fricking extraterrestrial. It'd be like a human dying from Tamaranean hepatitis or something as part of a moral about safe sex.

          Elongated Man's wife Sue Dibny.
          tl;dr
          >Dr. Light used to be a super sadistic villain that needed the whole League to stop
          >One day he sneaks onto the JLA Satellite and rapes Sue while everyone is out on patrol
          >The whole League (save for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) show up and beat him
          >When he says he'll do it again, they decide to not only erase his memories of the event, but also scramble his brain so he'll be "harmless"
          >Batman shows up to try to stop them, but they beat him and scramble HIS brain so he doesn't remember that this happened
          >It is heavily implied that Superman probably heard all of this and chose to ignore it because he only hears what he WANTS to hear
          >All of this was a red herring anyway; it was The Atom's ex-wife who actually killed her in the main story
          >This was all done to show that the League aren't as good as they appear and explain why Batman subconsciously distrusts all superheroes; he KNOWS they did something to his brain

You forgot the part where the ex-wife did it to get the Atom to take her back, not out of revenge or anything like that, because all of the League flock to their loved ones when one of the other people's partners get hurt or threatened. Despite the fact that she was the one who divorced him and she could have just said she's changed her mind and wants to go on a date to rekindle their spark.

There's only so much bad writing that can be squeezed into a post. Let's not forget that, after they make a big deal about how they use all the super tech and magic at their disposal the HOUR they find Sue dead, it takes pretty much a week, "three" more attempts at taking the live of the League's loved ones, an actual death, and the near-destruction of the new League members' trust in the old League for someone to do an autopsy and notice that little footprints were on her brain. Even worse, they didn't check to see if anyone had called the house beforehand, because that's how they would have known who did it instantly.

It's one thing that he doesn't want to kill some of his rogues since he either feels responsible for them or that they can be rehabilitated, but this dude fricking raped someone. Making it so he can't get that impulse seems like the least horrible thing the League could consider when they could just as easily kill Light since a lot of people consider rape one of the worst things any person can do

Batman's perspective is really one from oversight and transparency. Regardless of how much any particular action makes sense in the moment, there IS something very fricked up about a club of literal superhumans making unilateral decisions that affect people's lives in secret. If they're so confident in their actions then why not announce "hey, everyone, we're going to change this rapist's personality by force, k?"

Luffy's is meant to be off looking since he's absolutely devastated by his failure, and the weight of his earlier separation from the crew. It was more so in the anime where it wound up coming off a bit more comedic since they tried to make his cries more hysterical from his mind breaking, but it winds up feeling goofy since the already exaggerated look combined with the hysterics cause it to come off more comical than heartbreaking

The only reason why it even ended like this was so that Carol could get away with killing him in cold blood so she could be built up as the Face of Marvel in time for he movie and so that Tony could still be right, since he was ALREADY the Face of Marvel.

Otherwise, it should have ended with the whole superhero community shunning her, Miles never trusting her or those who sided with her, Carol's warnings based on the vision-blast she got going unheeded, and Tony's death meaning something.

Tony's reasoning gets ragged on, but it made sense and fit with the lessons he learned from Dark Reign (or should have learned, ignoring his moronic death and resurrection that may have left holes in his memory of that era).
            >Hey Carol, you remember that awesome totalitarian state authority we set up? It worked out really well when I was in charge and we got to have fun throwing people we didn't like into the Negative Zone internment camps, right? But then the president got tired of my shit and put Norman Osborn in charge of SHIELD, and that wasn't so swell. You can keep being Little Miss Minority Report with Poochy the Inhuman if you want, but eventually you'll fall out of political favor and it'll be someone else. Imagine if the next president kicks you out and decides he really likes the cut of Mystique's jib, and puts her in charge of the Department of Being Allowed to Arrest People Before They Actually Do Anything Because the Psychic Hippie Freak Said They Will you've set up here. Your guy can't win ever election forever; eventually you'll have to cede the power you've given yourself to your worst political enemies. Gee, I wonder if this is some sort of hackneyed political allegory!
It's just that Bendis couldn't have Tony actually say it to anyone because Bendis's idea was "Carol hears Tony' reasoning and then understands and agrees immediately." Since he's not a good enough writer to have there be legitimate disagreements in philosophy that prolong the conflict and then show the characters organically changing their stances on the issue, Bendis had to have the moronic moment of Carol getting the little note "Hi Carol this Tony. Here are my actual reasons for starting this war! Wow, I probably should've just told you these instead of sperging out to the point that you had to kill me, huh? LOL! See you in AA when I resurrect myself!"

You have to feel for Tom Taylor. He was handed the job of writing a prequel comic to Injustice when the premise was nonsensical in the first place and most of the cast was behaving incredibly out of character. And he had to figure out how to get from point A to point B. Taylor is actually a pretty good writer under normal circumstances.

      Anonymous

I wouldn't say the premise was completely nonsensical, just very contrived and about something that we had already seen numerous times before. Evil Superman who takes over the world had been done a lot already, and this needed to have a bunch of characters to fill out the main game's roster, which should be all that hard. But then you have a bunch of shit that happens like Joker somehow duping Superman, getting Flash killed, and several other things that could have played out better if actual time and effort were taken to plot out the major story beats. As it is, things are rushed and basically done to say "okay, this Superman had a bad day and becomes an irreconcilable moron who then needs to be stopped"
I mean, it would probably still have been hated even if things were smartly written, given how a lot of people are just burnt out on "universe where Superman is evil" since it's been done more times than King Kong has been rebooted/remade

        Anonymous

Contrived is a good way to put it. But the big thing is that nothing logically connects. Okay, so Joker somehow tricks Superman into killing Lois and somehow nukes Metropolis. I'm following you so far. Superman kills Joker in his rage. I'm still following you. But then Superman decides that now this means it's time to start bullying world leaders and he uses what happened to Metropolis as his rationale. But it was the fricking Joker. Joker is a maniac even by supervillain standards.

Then there's everyone ELSE, which is arguably worse. Wonder Woman doesn't even pretend to be anything but a violent nutcase. Superman is sitting in the middle of the ruined city and Wonder Woman is like the little devil on his shoulder like "you gotta kill 'em all, Clark!" And then when shit starts hitting the fan the Flash, one of the bravest, most morally upstanding characters in all of DC, turns into some little coward b***h who just watches and frowns as his colleagues grind protesters into the pavement. Damien Wayne is just a brat who accidentally kills Nightwing. Hal Jordan is like "yeah, I guess a yellow ring isn't THAT bad..." It's annoying because you could have had just Superman be the bad guy but the video game writers were so desperate to make Batman as alone as possible that they subjected the entire Justice League to this character assassination. They're all so terrible that it makes you wonder how they were ever their "real" selves in the years that lead up to the Joker's scheme. Literally ANYTHING would have set these people off.

          Anonymous

The real tragedy is that Injustice had the perfect excuse to be about the Crime Syndicate. Maybe they somehow assume the identities of the Justice League and the big reveal is that they're fakes. That would have at least been fun and been better for a video game due to the different costumes as opposed to vaguely different "regime" looks.

            Anonymous

True, and really they should have used more evil/questionable characters for the Injustice premise since it wasn't as limited as DC vs MK where they had no choice but to limit the roster since it was split between two entirely different franchises, while Injustice was able to be 100% DC only

          Anonymous

Yea, it feels like there was meant to be something that happened to Diana, but since she barely comes into the story until after Metropolis is bombed, it just feels like they threw a dart and it landed on her to be "the one who eggs on Clark"
And you could EASILY fix it by making it that Joker or someone attacked Themyscira and thus broke her mind as well, that would at least make her whole attitude feel like it was coming from somewhere instead of nowhere as we wound up with. Not sure about Flash or Hal, though since this wasn't meant to be a 1:1 Justice Lords story, could have just had others join with Supes and Wonder Woman when Clark decides to become a controlling dickhead.

Didn't they say that as well when he died from "cancer" or whatever because the adamantium in his body? I never kept too much attention to things after, but I always thought to myself "this will probably last a few years and then he'll be back, again"

I forget, what did they do to "replace" him after that? I remember hearing something about another character basically getting his abilities like they were some fricking hand-me-down or whatever, though I can't recall if that was necessarily after this so-called "permanent death" or whatever. It's just fricking moronic how they try to pull this shit with characters so often, having them die and then undoing the deaths after some time that it feels like a joke nobody wants to admit is trash

Speaking of comic deaths and Irredeemable, what was up with this reveal? They didn't elaborate as to why the room or those kids ended up there and it was framed like Tony purposely experimented on them with the alien virus, which wouldn't make sense because the next issue literally says he didn't know.

    >Argues it isn't appeal to authority by way of... Appealing to authority.
Your initial post implies that your relatives who are medical doctors must have some sort of more valid position than random people online *because* they're doctors that have completed medical school.
But that is in fact an appeal to authority. Them having gone to medical school has literally no relevance to them deciding to get untested novel vaccines, and there's no reason to suggest their medical school knowledge lends any credence to their decision beyond your implication that their roles as doctors innately makes their decision more informed.
If I need technical know-how for a procedure, of course I'd prefer someone with professional experience in that procedure over a random person on the internet, but the technical knowledge of a medical professional does not directly correlate to having the discretion to decide if applying that knowledge is appropriate or responsible (for example, a surgeon that can do vaginoplasties doesn't have a "more valid" opinion on "gender-transition" surgeries being right or wrong just because they can perform the surgery) and it doesn't mean that knowledge in one area of medicine is indicative of knowledge in all areas of medicine (so being great with organic chemistry doesn't have any relation to the credibility of your position on a particular new product that is released to the public with incomplete or outright falsified information).

Yea... no. Keep trying with that crap. And funny you call me and others in the thread schizos when you're the one just calling names left, right, and sideways. But hey, keep changing the goalpost when the point of the argument is that not everyone accepts what is said and that's their right, but of course you won't accept that because god forbid people actually think for themselves and make their own decisions in life.

    >You've never even gone to college at all
I've graduated from college, but it's not relevant to the argument.
    >Docs subscribe to journals
Now you're moving the goalposts so much that you're having to MAKE UP a hypothetical scenario in which your doctor with irrelevant education on the matter coincidentally keeps up with this particular current event on the side (which anybody regardless of doctor status can do, leaving your doctor as nobody special) and that somehow makes them more qualified.

      >I've graduated from college, but it's not relevant to the argument.

If you had you'd be familiar with what journals are.

      >Now you're moving the goalposts

Have you even read /misc/'s sticky on logical fallscies or do you just cite different ones at random and hope I won't know what they'll mean? I'm ot moving goalposts. You said my father and sister wouldn't have learned anything about new vaccines in med school. I said that's irrelevant because they're learning about new medicine all the time. How is that moving the goalposts? I directly refuted your stupid argument. I went straight to your main point and explained why it was wrong.

      >leaving your doctor as nobody special

Awwwww am I invalidating you by saying you didn't work as hard for your google education as my dad and sister did for their med school exams? Well they're nobody special! A smart kid like you doesn't NEED med school when you have google! There's nothing in those stuffy science textbooks your favorite conservative blogs and youtubers can't teach you!

        >You'd be familiar with what journals are
Your entire argument was based on a medical school degree (or as you later clarified, education) making you an authority on COVID vaccines. That is wrong. You later amend this to say that you can read journals to be informed on COVID vaccines. That's true, but it wasn't your initial claim, and those journals would have (presumably, perhaps your relatives both graduated within the past three years, but it's not likely from your own statements) been published after their education.
        >How is that moving goalposts
Because your initial post specifically says:
        >Did /misc/ learn something at medical school that they didn't?
It wasn't about keeping up with current events or hypothetically following new medical trends until after it was refuted that their medical school education would have been insufficient to give them any credible position on COVID-19 vaccines.
It's not my fault your dad and sister took a defective vaccine. I hope they don't suffer any adverse side effects, but they could've done a fraction of the due diligence they did in getting their medical degrees and not needed to worry about it by just avoiding the vaccines in the first place.

A generalized knowledge of "medicine" or conventional vaccination does not cover MRNA vaccines and certainly doesn't cover COVID-19 vaccines.
