Why do people sperg out about the moral relativism of KOTORII? Kreia is the main villain and you can btfo her as a full blown jedi/sith. The game even rewards you if you go 100% on either side. Did mommy Kreia hurt your feelings, anon?

          Anonymous

People really want to ignore the fact that Kreia is the final villain, someone explicitly shown to drive everyone mad with her lectures, and a self-admitted hypocrite. Its pretty clear she wanted you to go done the light side path but follow a less dogmatic and self aware Jedi Order. She’ll just scold you no matter what you do because
          >Again she’s the villain
          >She’s explicitly challenging you for its own sake

Because according to morons like the one I replied to, KOTORII is all about muh subversions and promoted gray morality and shit.

If the game rewards you for going to one extreme or the other, it would seem to contradict your point that the game doesn't promote gray morality but rather absolutism. Please bear in mind that I have not played the game so I don't know what I'm talking about.

SW has always been about clear cut good vs evil. Luke good. Emperor bad. Han slightly bad but learned to be good. Vader super bad but in the end choose to do good and finds redemption. You get that. KOTORII has caused a lot of seethe because Kreia who is your mentor in the game and also the main villain constantly scolds you and tries to teach you that the jedi are moronic. This hurts the manchild because it insults his space monk heroes. Of course they never mention that the game rewards you for going against her teachings and no matter what in the end you have to kill her because her ideas have lead her to a very dark path. People cry about gray morality in a game that actually condemns it simply because it doesn't do it openly right from the start with clear cut characters.

she isn't teaching you to be "not good" or "not evil" but instead to not be dogmatic and think about what you do, theres lots of moments in the game where you can make a choice and it pleases her.

i wound up being fully lightsided AND maxed out with my relationship with her AND having sith powers like force lightning. thats kind of what she's getting at, to think for your self and weigh the pros and cons of a situation.

like theres one situation where these people ask you to help them, and you can choose

                >help them
                >don't help them
                >(stall) say that you will help them in a bit

if you choose (stall) say that you will help them, then she praises you for buying time to think and examine the situation and determine what you want to do without being blinded by your compulsion to be good or evil.

yea some of the game was a bit restrained by the format and expectations of a star wars product and specifically a star wars rpg but i thought did a pretty decent job at examining and expressing peoples criticisms and concerns for concepts within the star wars franchise, especially because it didn't just shit on star wars and allowed the sith and the jedi to express their philosophy as well.

ok i lied lol it actually said (lie) lol, it should have said (stall), because you can still decide to help them later, so its not really a lie. if you choose that option kreia is pleased and says that it allows you to play both sides, buy some time, and decide what is best.

It's right after you meet Vrook on Dantooine coming out of the cave. The one eyed mercenary frick asks you to sabotage the defenses. This is the thing you moral relativists miss. Being dogmatic is correct if your dogma is correct. Light side is good. The lighter the better. This is the morality of the original and true Star Wars. You may not like it, but thems the facts. Dark and “grey” are both ways of saying ‘the bad guy’. Cheers.

you could argue that the light side and the jedi council are not neccessarily the same thing, and that you are percieved as gray when you act out side of the jedi council, but that doesn't make you actually gray, also you could argue that ones personal journey with morality is sacred.

this is wrong insofar as she's critiquing the contemporary jedi order rather than the LS itself, and as the prequels show the jedi order is not infallible nor inherently a 1:1 conveyance of the way things should be
and lets be honest ignoring edgelord OCs 99% of "grey" jedi are just lightsiders who disagree with aspects of the orders autism

I agree with your view, just going to quibble on one bit. "Grey" is code for "I wanna call myself heroic, but don't want to give up Force Lightning". It's for twelve-year-olds, power gamers and the occasional moral relativist.

IIRC in legends force lightning is not an exclusively DS power, albeit it's typically frowned upon by orthodox jedi given its destructive power

No he didn't. There's no Kreia in TLJ, Rey is not the Exile and the way Luke "cut himself off from the force" doesn't in any way shape or form consider the the gigantic consequences such an act would be. In KOTOR2 losing your connection to the force as a force user is akin to dying. Losing all your senses at once and being stripped of life. In TLJ for Luke it's like flipping a switch. He literally just turns it on and off like no big deal.
Luke also doesn't look deeply at the core issues with the sith and jedi dogma. He just says "jedi are bad because they allowed Palpatine to become emperor". He doesn't offer any alternative, he has no teachings for Rey. Kreia wants the Exile to create something new that wasn't connected to the Force. Since the Force is seemingly sentient and Kreia despises that. That she is controlled by an unseen force, and that force is causing these galactic catastrophes over and over again. The Exile being cut off from the Force being he actively chose to is something no other person has ever done. He effectively transcended beyond fate and destiny, becoming a truly free individual. That's why the Exile is so precious to Kreia, and why she gets so butthurt when you either go hurr durr me ebil sith man kill all inocents or being goodie two shoes who actively goes out of his way to help people even if it serves only to weaken yourself and the person you're helping.

She is the perfect representation of the pseudointellectual pretentiousness of obsidian and their fans. The type of people who buy a pipe and puff it while playing the "highly sophisticated and intelligent" fallout new vegas as they post about how it has far deeper rpg mechanics than any other rpg out there for the ten millionth time. Their cheeto dust covered hand then leaves the keyboard and falls over onto the wiener of their fellow intellectual sitting in the goon cave in the basement of their parent's house as they jerk each other off over their thousandth playthrough and expertly crafted and deep character that they wrote an entire book of lore for to post in their discord for their friends to praise as intellectual. They then both cum together after they fantasize about fisto raping their virgin buttholes and lick the cum mixed with cheeto dust off the floor as they make pig snorting noises. Truly the height of intellectualism

What I like about this game is that you don't always fight rebels in it. You also carry out anti-space pirate operations and intervene in a civil war and stuff. The kind of stuff a legitimate government would have to do to stay functional even if it's supposed to be "the bad guys."

        >Multiplayer ruled though
I thought it was kinda janky. Everyone ran like 200% faster than the campaign. It played more like an arena shooter than tactical in multiplayer. And that bugged me too much to keep playing online.

The Dark Lord Trilogy, which is made up of Labyrinth of Evil, the Episode III novelization, and Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader.

I wondered for a while why I enjoyed prequel-related content so much more than the OT even though I truly do not like ANY of the movies all that much. But I realized that the entire fricking point of making two film trilogies was just to tell the story of how Anakin got radicalized by the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. For me, Anakin's turn to the dark side and the immediate aftermath are some of the very few things Star Wars managed to execute satisfyingly.

The novel Lords of the Sith gets an honorable mention even though it was first published after Disney's continuity reset.

It launched as a true sandbox and then once WoW came and ate its lunch they relaunched it as a complete theme park WoW clone calling it the "New Game Experience". It sucked ass and most people generally agree the game died once the NGE version was introduced even though it was technically online in that state for years afterwards.

I only remember just after the NGE. Didn't have a computer that would run it before then. The only thing I really remember was attempt to kill a kyrat dragon by kitting it around so I could hopefully get a pearl for my lightsaber that I never got before the game died. No idea if that would have actually worked or not, but in my defense I was a moronic kid who had never played an mmo before.
