    did jack really strangle him

same thing happens in the book and king's version of the movie except it's clear that the dead woman in the bathtub did strangle him.

      it was jack.
      He molested his child
The bear was a symbol for that
The rotten woman is his rotten self (Or the dienal of his wife)
This movie was more about Dany than Jack - how he managed to escape the forever and ever going cycle by killing his father

    Here's a question:
Why was he itchin' to get the gig so bad anyways? He was ravenously excited, desperate even to please Ullman in his interview.

It seems like an easy job, why wouldn't he jump at the chance?

Still, it's not the best look to be frothing at the mouth during an interview. 5 months in isolation hardly seems easy but maybe I only say that because I've seen the film

You do realize they explain that clearly in the movie, right? Put your fucking phone down, you ADHD retard.

God I fucking hate you. He explains why he purportedly wants the gig, yes. It's clearly fucking bullshit and he is entirely unable to write while there. Maybe he did have intentions of completing a writing project but consider the other suspect details.
        >You're a school teacher?
        >Ah- formerly a school teacher. Teaching was just a way of making ends meet.
Why did he quit? Did he quit? Was he fired? "Outlining a project" doesn't sound like he really had anything lined up if he really did quit his post. I'll kill you, anon.

he diddled his kid and couldn't be near a school anymore, his wife should've left him but she was too battered by patriarchy to do it. as for why he wanted the job well that's what 30 year olds did back in the day zoomie, got a family and provided for it no matter what instead of playing videogames and watching shitty movies all day long

            >he diddled his kid and couldn't be near a school anymore
            possibly, yes
            >his wife should've left him but she was too battered by patriarchy to do it
questionable word choice but she was weak-willed, yes. that therapist lady pitied her greatly
            >as for why he wanted the job well that's what 30 year olds did back in the day zoomie, got a family and provided for it no matter what instead of playing videogames and watching shitty movies all day long
you just couldn't help yourself, could you.

Do you think it's at all possible he took his family to a remote location with the express, or maybe subconscious intention of "correcting" them?

              Anonymous

A common complaint that I generally agree with is that Kubrick and Nicholson portrayed Jack as unhinged right from the start rather than slowly descending into madness.

                Anonymous

I agree but I think it actually makes the character more compelling. He's frothing at the mouth from beginning, starting with him desperately campaigning to get the gig, under a thin veneer of professionalism.
He is openly cold with his family on the drive up to the place; he already seems at his wits end with them.

He's clearly unhinged but his family, a weak willed woman and a child folllow like lambs to slaughter. Danny is only able to defeat him with the help of his shine

                >He's frothing at the mouth from beginning
Exactly. It's the opposite of compelling. You should consume less goyslop.

he's supposed to offputting and despicable because why wouldn't he be? he's an alcoholic child abuser. You want to relate to this man and yet accuse me of slurping goyslop? Go back to your therapist.

No the shining is not goyslop esl. That aspect of it is the opposite of compelling. Consider consuming less goyslop. Now fuck off troon.

he was an alcholic who went to AA to get clean, he left his job and got away from things to start fresh, he saw the hotel job as an oppertunity to work on his writing, and be inspired

            >do u remember the bit where he was fucking possesed by ghosts from near the moment he gets there
not really, that's speculative and interpretive. I'm assuming you're referring to the shine in his eyes during the interview

            >he was an alcholic who went to AA to get clean, he left his job and got away from things to start fresh, he saw the hotel job as an oppertunity to work on his writing, and be inspired
Yeah, possibly. That's the chaste interpretation, the hopeful one.

them ghosts were there the entire time, if the black man can sense danny has the shining instantly from meeting him i dont think its a leap to say the ghosts did as well, and the best way to get to him was through jack

also we can see when she goes through his writing in the film the only notes he has ever made ever since being there is all work makes jack a dull boy, from the first time he started writing

                Anonymous
