The Predator killing gang members is fun, Garey Busey's team of spooks having their fancy plan fall apart and get slaughtered is fun; but after that they just really didn't have a good idea for how Danny Glover was actually going to kill the Predator. Finding the ship under the city is cool, the other Predators showing up after the fight and tossing him the old pistol as a trophy is cool but the fight itself is lame.

Just watched this. I liked it. It wasn't perfect for sure...you can tell the budget was low and yes a male MC would been preferrable, but this was a hell of a lot better than The Predator. I've compressed multiple speed 0 and speed 2 at -quality best even and I got almost identical VMAF scores... and comparing frame by frame, yea I could tell they're different encodings but looked almost the same, clearly not a quality downgrade.
I'd argue that if you need to show something fast you could just use speed 4, while some obsessed eyes could tell in motion that you used that speed in terms of quality it isn't exactly worse. It's also much better looking at that speed vs vp8 with absolute best quality settings and lowest speed.
Bitrate is just 25165.8 kB divided by seconds - I usually then go with 99% of that to avoid offshooting by a few KiB

A blatant example is that people are using an old vp9 build from before they even introduced multi-threading for example because it's shipped with most webm making software.
There are definitely a lot of bugs that I saw being fixed as time went on.
Also versions that are years apart give different vmef scores, as in the more recent ones are better.

The skull design looks decorative at best otherwise it's clearly high-tech since it can see through portions of the mask without visible lenses, complete with laser-targeting.

I want to know more about Yautja. In terms of the variants running around. I am skeptical that the Yautja we see in Prey evolves into the classic Predator we are familiar with. Especially since the Predators from Predator 2 had an elder, which has a long lifespan. I assume it's just another subspecies that isn't as advanced as the other Yautja. Like how the Super Predators have technology more advanced than the regular Yautja. Maybe the Feral Predators exist on different parts of the Predator planet or maybe driven off the planet.
When I first saw Skully's face I assumed that the intention was that he is a Super Predator because the design looked a little similar out of focus. When it gets clearer he clearly isn't a supe, but I like the idea that Ferals evolved into the super predators.
what I don't get about this movie is that Naru was a dogshit hunter, like she misses every shot, then she ties a rope to her axe and suddenly she can kill a bunch of rabbits effortlessly.
She's actually a 10/10 marksman.
When she misses it's because she's distracted by things but even while she falling she actually manages to hit that lion, it's just that she hits her head.
She's incompetent due to her female body at everything but the things she trained for, puts her will on; it's realistic in that sense.
