Wait till you get to the ending, then you'll really decide if you like it or not. I'm still not sure whether I did. I simultaneously like it and hate it.

the ending was so fricking rushed, i don't understand why gennedy spent so much time on useless shit only for the last 3 minutes to matter

It's bitter sweet. Realistically, Spear had his run and it was beautiful. He lost his family while he was away and powerless. He would have given his life to save them. Everything after that was just survival, until he found someone new to protect, and he saved her. He even had another child. It was a pretty good for a caveman.

This. REH even wrote a short story called Spear and Fang. I want Gendy to make a Conan series so bad.

      >I want Gendy to make a Conan series so bad
I think it's pretty clear that Spear is meant to be the ancestor of Conan. Or at least a Conan-like character. I'll bet we'll get an unofficial sequel at some point.

      >He deserved to find love
was never a focus at all in the original show.

how'd gennedy frick it up this time?

Caveman meats early modern human. He spends the entirety of season 2 saving her ass then gets fricking roasted and she fricks his deepfried ass. Spear dies after blowing his last load knocking that smart b***h up. They have a badass daughter.

You're right, the bitter-sweetness of it is what keeps it in the back of my mind.
I would've liked Spear to have had a happy ending but he was never going to fit into a more modern society, but this way he would live on.

much like the final season of Samurai Jack it was ruined by the introduction of a female sidekick/love interest

It would have been fine if she wasn't a love interest

Samurai Jack wasn't ruined by it. He deserved to find love and Ashi was symbolically the best kind of partner.
But yes, it's a detriment in Primal.

        >He deserved to find love
No one disagrees with that. But we all expected that to happen after he beats Aku.

The way Ashi was forced into the story undermines the plot.

That was ruined by Jack being a beta pussy who has no idea how to talk to women even though impotence with women flies in the face of EVERY samurai trope there is. Also her dying ruined it. Jack deserved to be happy.

Primal s2 sucked because of the ending.

All gripes aside, I’m just genuinely taken aback that this was made in the first place. It feels like they’re catering specifically towards autists.

It was catering to millennials who were grown up and wanted Samurai Jack with actual gore

It’s clearly meant to be an homage to Conan and REH’s short stories, I think the SJ parallels are probably incidental to an extent.

This. It's doesn't even have to focus on Conan. It could be an anthology series just set in that world. Each episode in a different location following different characters.

I am glad of the direction they took the show in season two, cus it was brave and interesting, but they sorta fricked it up a lot

season one is pure brilliance, absolutely wonderful stories of survival with episodes that all stand ok on their own

That first season was fricking amazing. Completely and utterly mogs Japanimation with brutal intent. Then, inexplicably, it went to shit. Like wtf. Frick knows what happened toward the end but that was bad. Doubly so with from how high it fell. Made me genuinely sad.

I would love an anthology season. Primal Theory was a good proof of concept. Every episode a different setting with a silent (or nearly so) protagonist surviving a situation by their wits and grit. Cowboy, astronaut, the potential is endless. But Genndy's acumen for visual storytelling would have to be the main ingredient.

Why is Genndy so bad at endings? It’s like he has a bunch of ideas and pulls them off well, then he realizes he has to have some sort of ending and rushes the shit out of it.

i don't think it was ever intended to have a ending exactly. the show worked best when it was just shorts of cool shit happening. the artist as an idea of something dramatic and cool and he does it like a jerk reaction. cool as it is, it'll eventually get repetitive. he knows this and also knows the network wants a 2nd season and a proper story. thus it became shit because it was never intended to have a story.

The only ending he seemed to be good at was the Clone Wars miniseries but I'm not sure if that counts because the ending is literally just Revenge of the Sith itself.
