Incredibly boring film. If its point was to show that the Soviet Union was a dull wasteland, it succeeded.
Had the same reaction to this as I had with Hard to be a God which was also based on a work by the Strugatsky brothers.

That's not to say the book is always better, if anything I usually prefer the movies, but for some reason the Strugatsky brother adaptations always end up being mind numbing dogshit when the stories they're based on are good. Maybe its just down to masturbatory directors trying to elevate what are essentially pulp sci-fi stories into 'high cinema'.
Nah, that's just Tarkovsky being a moron. He did the same with Solaris, went straight into adaptation without stopping to think for a second if there's something happening below the surface level of the story. Soderberghs Solaris shits all over it.

Why do tee vee users like Turin Horse but hate Stalker? It doesn't make sense.
I'm generally not into tryhard arthouse but I liked Stalker because it didn't feel like dishonest cinema to me. There's authenticity despite some of the posturing.

This. Just the scene where the guide gets frustrated about nobody ever going in the room is worth the sit. It’s definitely not in the greatest 100 movies of all time but it’s good.
