Psylocke

I like her design but I saw someone said that Psylocke is a “pinup” character who doesn’t has much going on as a character outside of aesthetics. Could someone recommend me some x-men runs in which she shines as a character?

That's a bit dismissive but it's also true she's not exactly what you'd call a HEADLINER. She's a great team filler and she's been a pretty solid of the main X-men book especially in the early to mid 90s. That said there's also not really anything wrong with being a team book character instead of a solo act. People got the idea that everyone needs to be a solo artist these days.

Ok this needs some serious updates.
At the very least the incredibly fun Hellions from the Krakoa era should be there asap

I thought Psylocke as Betsy was a fun team character. She was basically the Jean Grey of the team with none of the baggage, and took on an older sister role to the other girls of the X-Men when Storm couldn't. Psylocke after the raceswap is a lot more boring but being a sexy psychokinetic ninja is cool.

    uncanny x-force of course

She's essentially dead as a character.

I know that sounds dramatic but splitting her back into British Betsy and Japanese kwannon removed what was special about her. So now you have a shitty boring lesbian who had two ongoings during Krakoa and one event and they all sucked ass and sold like dogshit. And then you have Kwannon trying to be the ersatz character for Japanese Betsy and failing miserably, being a big nothing.

It's miserable and it only happened because of the fricking C.B. Cebulski scandal. killing a character over that.

Yea you can definitely tell that they tried to have their cake and eat it with this one but didn’t realize that you can’t put the genie back into the bottle.

With Betsy, they try to ignore the ninja aspect and go full Captain Britain lore with her but given that that’s been her thing for almost 30 years, you can’t just throw it away completely. There’s zero nuance to it and it’s blunt as frick to the point that you can tell easily that they’re trying to sweep it all under the rug. And as a result, she’s just become so boring as a character.

With Kwannon, they clearly want to still have the Psylocke people love but it’s just a visual lie given that she lacks the dynamic and personality that Betsy had brought.

So in the end you end up with not one but two hollow characters where you used to have one full one

This is my main gripe with it. The Captain Britain we have doesn't talk or act or behave like Betsy. Not the one we have followed for the last 40 years or so. She has been so thoroughly scrubbed of all her questionable character traits, her tragedy and her guilt that she's just a generic lesbian fairytale princess. She's nothing. Less than nothing. Just an execuse for Tini Howard to write some awful sword&sorcery-light X-Man books.

She was a far better character when she was a supporting character for Brian. Making her into an x-men was a mistake and just an excuse for Claremont to insert his fetish (he should have made Kitty black instead)

        Go back to bed Tini.

Kwannon isn't a character. She's just part of Betsy balkaned off into a caricature

Character that gets by mostly on Betsy's aesthetics. They seriously didn't even try to change her outfit or alias and make kwannon an actual person. She's just Betsy but without the baggage.

she was so perfect bros. The most fanart and cosplay of any X-Men character for years running. And the Japanese are blissfully unaware she's not Betsy anymore.

She was the useless telepath bri´ish girl that fainted every hour for like what? 5 minutes of comic book measurement? Nobody missed that. The ninja with purple hair is what everyone wanted and they fricked up that.

I stopped reading current X-Men sometime before Uncanny #500, so my assessment of her is based on reading hardly anything consistent since besides a few issues. She’s a very strange character that boils down to an adrenaline junkie that’s obsessed with escaping her upper class lifestyle for a hardcore warrior fantasy that she constantly gets, and somehow is brutally stolen from her by way of mostly physical, but sometimes psychic disablements. That’s basically her constant character arc which always peaks with something bad happening to her. She’s built up as getting “better”, “tougher”, so much so that she surpasses veteran characters and supplants them (often temporarily)- and then…

Well none of that applies anymore. Getting her body back literally fixed every mental issue she ever had.

      >Slaymaster pokes her eyes out right after she was made her brother’s official replacement as Captain Britain (which becomes null and void after her maiming)
      >Mojo forces cybernetic eyeballs in her after she was getting used to living as an eyeless psychic
      >Reavers frick the Outback base up
      >Mojo and Matsu’o get her mind and body swapped with Kwannon (which is only really a downer for British Betsy fans and the genesis of the majority of all other Betsy fans)
      >Scott chooses Jean over her
      >Sabretooth finally guts her (she beat him twice as British Betsy!)
      >Shadowking takes away her psychic abilities and she has to take Jean’s telekinesis
      >that Spanish guy kills her
      >Claremont wrote her out of the main universe to put her in his shitty Exiles run

She is a pinup of suffering. I figure from what little I know now, her character must have achieved some kind of meta retribution by once again becoming Captain Britain and becoming lesbians with Rachel Grey, who I can hardly remember them interacting with in the old comics as from my recollection, Betsy pretty much replaced Rachel as the team psychic.

Rachel and Betsy barely knew each other. They interacted marginally when Betsy visited Brian and later when they were both on the Alan Davis team together. But no there was nothing there until betsy's self-insert makeover.

Frick! I read it all then lol. It would make more sense if Betsy lezzed out with Rogue or Dazzler then- hell! Even Spiral probably had more chemistry with her than Rachel!

Rachel is supposed to be destined in a Claremont style throuple with Kitty and Illyana- with maybe Karma, Dani, and Rahne as auxiliary dykes to go along with their sexual shenanigans. How could these idiot writers get everything so wrong?

Betsy is just a stepping stone to the Kitty Rachel endgame
