The internet is the same as it ever was, you idiot. What changed was the people using the internet. Ask any oldgay (not that there's any around) what Cinemaphile used to be like and they'll tell you the place is unrecognisable now because there's black people, trannies, women and so on on Cinemaphile and none of them are capable of having an intelligent discussion.
You say the internet sucks? Guess what, the internet is populated by people that exist in the real world. That's what you should be sad about.

Cinemaphile didn't exist back then, the most chaotic place was probably usenet

also it was more boring in some sense because most users were computer nerds; you could find almost nothing in depth unless it was for computer technology; now the normie places are more inane but the specialized places are more in depth.

more uneducated people use it too but it's mainly the age thing because in the early days most adults on it weren't even that varied in education (mainly computer nerds).

Are you an oldgay, or just speaking for us?
The problem isn't "trannies" or "women", it's newbies and Cinemaphiles ever increasing userbase.
50% of users joined in 2016ish. That means 50% of users don't know what Cinemaphile used to be like or why it was good. All they can do is emulate what they think Cinemaphile is supposed to be like (at BEST).

You know what a massive issue now is? The absolute obsession with trannies. Constant all the time shitposts about trannies. Not even shitposts, because shitposts used to at least be funny or neutral, garbage posts filling up the site. Now Cinemaphile is a place for /misc/tards to vent because they don't have anywhere else to go.

There are too many newbies, there's no way to gatekeep them. When half the users are newbies who don't even think they're newbies because they joined in 2016 there's nothing you can do. Us vs them moron newbies won and it's eternal summer now. None of them could possibly be anything other that incredibly short sighted and so would never change how they post here even if it would make the site better. I can't even imagine they enjoy it or gain anything from the constant arguments over trannies or leftists or trumptards. They just want to argue about meaningless things they pull in as a part of their identity. They're also wildly contrarian. Cinemaphile used to be counter culture, but now it's meaningless contrarianism. If people like or believe a thing that means it must be bad. No other reasoning. A lot of posters are now insisting that things Cinemaphile has always liked or believed are wrong. I don't know if it's because there are so many new posters that the entire culture of who browses the site has changed or if they just want to be counter counter-culture because it's cool to hate things other people like.

It's a really common tactic to call anyone who disagrees with the mainstream narrative a contrarian. Like, if you think pride month is a bit excessive, of if you think it's kind of sinister that companies like Raytheon will incorporate rainbow flags into their social media profiles, then you're just an edgy contrarian.

I'm using the internet since the late 90s. I bet you found some forums; those having nothing to do with Cinemaphile; "Cinemaphile" back then could be found to a limited form on usenet because that was more chaotic and more trollish (it probably invented the very concept of "trolling" and the usage of the word too).

You could still find that now if you find a more niche group; maybe a discord; maybe a (non-popular) subreddit (and other such things Cinemaphile hates).

most internet users up to ~2005 were computer nerds (professionals and hobbyist at it); that implies some level of education and intelligence; that excludes your pathetic little kind of neonazis in most cases.

It's because you'll get posters posting unfunny and tedious and moralistic posts and dulling the level of discourse. To the point where people capable of interesting conversations leave and it just becomes people saying the same boring shit over and over again.
I don't even watch many movies or shows, I just come to Cinemaphile because there are sometimes interesting posters and threads. But I find myself sort of desperately searching for a nice board without so many normalgays nowadays.

It had its charms being gate kept to almost exclusively adults that could first adopter new tech, with high literacy. Now we have the charms of mass democracy and smart phones. and 'curation' algos and jannies On the other hand it's much easier to get vetted recommendations and obscure tips for kino and everything else. Pirating too.

one thing I realized is that most people are conditioned NOT to figure out the ~~*primary cause*~~ for all the terrible things in this world
it's like their brain stops when it begins to head towards it

Eventually you realize there's no "final answer" it's just your brain giving itself dopamine by connecting dots in a way that makes sense to it.
I've believed something very strongly, and then been disillusioned many times in my life. After so many, you realize that that really there's no answer and each model of the world you can construct can easily (or not so easily) give way to another. It's all provisional.

When I think about the old internet I think about this person I used to chat with over napster. It was just normal conversation for ages then they went psycho one day out of the blue. I think they were actually trying to catfish me and then after a while got mad that I just casually chatted and wasn't taking their bait or something.

      >I think they were actually trying to catfish me
One time a 13 y/o me was in a group of chatrooms called coolchat in the 50+ room and ran into the person who did the electrical work in the house I was living in. The only time I told someone online who I was irl.
