In the movie he was only able to do that because Mystique had injected a bunch of extra iron in the guy's bloodstream.
In comics his power has been inconsistently portrayed over the decades. Sometimes he's limited to just moving some metal around, other times he can basically do anything.
He CAN levitate Thor's hammer by the way, this has been shown. But it doesn't do him much good, he's still not worthy to access the power of Thor so it's just another hunk of metal to him.

Thor's hammer is an incredibly heavy, dense object. even just lifting it half a foot over someone's head and "letting go" should crush them like they were hit by a meteor traveling at terminal velocity.

X-Men would just be from a different universe than the main MCU timeline.
Main reason isn't anyone's powers, it's so that X-Men can still have history going back decades, rather than suddenly having all mutants being discovered for the first time.

X-Men is definitely something that works better is a separate insular thing that gets bogged down when you remember the regular superheroes are there too.
Suddenly the question "Where is anyone else when Thor is saving the universe from the UK?" turns to "Where is anyone else when a building-sized Sentinel is doing TMD on Genosha?"

Probably magic space metal as well, so at best can debuff it a little for the sake of the plot
    >Infinity Gauntlet
Same space magic metal, but Magneto could affect it in various ways for the sake of the plot
    >Iron Man
Completely screwed until Act III when Tony makes magic non-magnetic nanobots for his suit
    >Vision
Probably completely screwed, unless he is also actually made of magic tech, but no one cares about Vision anyway

Magneto shouldn't be able to multitask like that. Vision or Thor's hammer alone should require all his attention.

  16. 3 weeks ago

He shouldn't be in because even the shittiest X-Stuff > everything else at Marvel except Spider-Man.
Marvel having the X-Men damages the Avengers brand because no one fricking cares about them when X-Men is around in equal measure, which is why no one bought Avengers film rights during Marvel's bankruptcy.

Suddenly the question "Where is anyone else when Thor is saving the universe from the UK?" turns to "Where is anyone else when a building-sized Sentinel is doing TMD on Genosha?"

In the Avengers there is like a couple dozen super powered people at most, and many of those are just genius engineers without any actual powers of their own, and everyone else in the world is a normie. In X-Men, there are millions of superpowered people around the world, which changes the entire dynamic and context.

If we were talking about X-Men and I said "gayneto" instead of Magneto would you laugh?

the X-Men are cool until you get into all that ridiculous Krakoa shit from the last few years. we desperately, DESPERATELY need the rights to Spider-Man back from Sony though. not being able to make free use of that catalog of heroes and villains is strangling the life outta the MCU. have you seen that bum ass mockup photo for Young Avengers? shit looks like a West Coast Defenders roster. lmao

        >the X-Men are cool until you get into all that ridiculous Krakoa shit from the last few years.
I actually started getting into that a couple days ago. Wow, I have no idea what that shit is trying to be but it's not what I enjoy from X-Men in the 80s or 2000s.
        >Xavier is back, anyone cares about what he thinks (lol)
        >Cyclops is basically a lackey
        >awful flood of technical sci fi jargon I'm certain is way less annoying to read about on a wiki than in character dialogue
        >awful flood of political games among the mutants to each other, which is so much less interesting than between humans and mutants
It feels like a complete reboot. I don't know why this is praised more than the Bendis/Inhumans era.

This has happened and yes it's an issue. The Revengers basically need prep time to take him down.

Because it's enchanted. He can't gain the hammer's additional powers since he isn't worthy, but he can move it.
That being said, Thor should be able to deal with Magneto without his hammer. And I'm sure Dr Strange could deal with him too. If all else fails, Ghost Rider could kill him in a single stare considering how much sinning Magneto has done.

        Anonymous

right yeah no i agree with you, i just felt like we were downplaying the feat of moving the hammer. at least until i looked it up and learned it only weighs like 45 pounds unless the hammer is consciously making itself lighter or heavier. apparently the weight of the hammer doesn't have anything to do with why unworthy can't wield it. lol

One well placed punch from Thor or Hulk would kill Magneto anyway. The tough part would be to land it since he would have his guard up, but it's doable. And Tony has non-metal armors that have done the job in the past.
Hell, Hawkeye with a non-metal bow and arrow could heem him via stealth.

May as well get rid of all civilians following your logic. I disagree because people like Batman and Dr Doom are regular guys with no powers and they've still taken down metahumans on multiple occasions.

          Anonymous

That doesn't track. Civilians are important for relatability in the story to ground the reader from the nonstop mythological melodrama the protag is involved in. Dark Knight Returns was really good at using short vignettes from regular people's lives to illustrate the gang violence in Gotham.

The annoying thing about X-MCU is that, best case scenario, as in it's at least decent by capeshit standards (an unrealistic expectation), it'll certainly play it safe and retread water that got old decades ago. Magneto hasn't really been an antagonist in a movie since 2014, and not in the comics since 2009. Like with Avatar or Berserk, I don't care about an adaptation of shit that's already good that I already know, no matter how good that adaptation is.
An actual good X-Men movie would therefore be set like in a post-Second Coming or Schism scenario. That followed a decade of mostly good stuff and was followed by a decade of nonstop garbage. But they won't even get to the more interesting shit from Clairemont's run. You will never see Storm and Cyclops battle it out for leadership or Magneto teach the New Mutants or the New Mutants at all since that movie flopped. Frankly I was shocked to see Nightcrawler was still overtly Christian in X-Men 97.
