But its a shitshow. I still love the movie but the show is a fricking joke. Its hilarious remembering how serious the shit was when I was 9 years old though.

Tf animated is the gold standard for TF cartoons and G1 is at least better than prime

Transformers Animated was unwatchable because of the deliberately ugly art style.

I don't give a shit about animated, but why do you guys come on here and lie.

Animated looks like animated becuase of DCAU and shit like kim possible. It was the style that was hot at the time

As someone who was born way after I still find it an enjoyable show. The writing is solid in most episodes and the world building in good.

I grew up with it (a little on the young side for it but had older siblings and still had a lot of the toys) but I decided to go watch G1 start to finish and ... yeahhh it's really not very good

Not really. A lot of episodes are incoherent, especially in season 1, and they contradict themselves a lot, like the whole Vector Sigma plot not making sense after Wheeljack just fricking makes the Dinobots and gives them minds
Movie is good stuff though, other than Wheelie and Blur being annoying as frick

You can write that off by Wheeljack being a super genius crazed mad scientist, and also the best he could do was, functionally, massive, dangerous, super strong morons who instantly started causing problems and kicked Prime's ass.

and yet you are Cinemaphile where people want to frick a mink from a 90s cartoon or post really creepy shit about Gwen from ben 10. Or argue about Marvel or DC comics that contradict themselves and each universe has to be rebooted 3 or 4 times. Exactly how many versions of batman have there been now?

A lot of the dialog holds up. The decepticons constantly taking the piss out of each other still amuses me.

show is fine. Its no worse than that stupid MCU slop you guys eat up.

It's a surprising concept to see actually happen on screen in a world where executives and market surveyors demand all shows for kids be made 100% relatable and focus on young kids in all parts.

I finally finished reading the original Marvel comics run of Transformers (US+UK save for Earthforce, which I will also get around to later) and really enjoyed it.
I was wondering though, if either ReGeneration One or the '84: Secrets and Lies miniseries are worth reading?
I've heard the former is love-or-hate-it while the latter is supposedly well-received, but I dunno the details about either much, really.
I've already read Generation 2 before, but I already decided I'm gonna reread it now that I've got the original run under my belt proper (plus Alignment, which I never read).

Sidenote but how are the UK stories considered noncanon in G2/RG1/'84? Bc it seemed very clear to me that basically everything from the UK stories was made retroactively canon in the US series after Furman took them over, and I don't quite remember anything in G2 necessarily *contradicting* anything (besides Another Time & Place, but I just regard that as an alt ending much the same as G2 and RG1. Not too big a fan of it anyway, felt a bit unsubstantial imo)...

      >Sidenote but how are the UK stories considered noncanon in G2/RG1/'84?

UK stories didnt come to the US. US determines canon for the hasbro made series because hasbro is located in the US, and the US buys the bulk of transformers merch.

Earth Force stories from the UK version are incompatible as it has characters alive and doing things when they're offline in the US stories and/or gaining knowledge of things that they didn't have in the US timeline. Furman had to jump through several hoops just to explain the plotholes of having Megatron active in the UK comics while in the US one he was offline for most of the middle of the comic's run, he probably didn't want to have to do it for every other plot hole that came up so just had other stories fall into discontinuity.

ReGeneration One felt like it had this issue with the plot not knowing what it wanted to do as it kept hopping from thing to thing the entire run (and the final villain was all "it was all ME! I planned EVERYTHING"). Stupidest part was the bit with Scorponok and the Gene Key but that doesn't last long until the plot jumps to something else.

I can't even remember Secrets and Lies now so can't say anything on that.

I grew up with every fricking elder millenial just slurping and gulping some of the dumbest poorly animated and carelessly written ultra consoomerist 80's toy commercials of all fricking time while shitting on 90's and 00's cartoons, and I will never forgive them for it
    The movie is great though

      It's fricking
      >Coonsoom!
the show, I feel sorry for the pathetic boomer fricks that had to grow up with shit like this. Horribly animated, errors in every scene, dialog is pure shit, it's just a commercial for expensive breakable toys.

      Brainlet take
The animation has errors but that's because they were attempting to be visually impressive with overly complex character designs they couldn't animate that well. The attempt is still better than ugly simplistic blobs.
The world building is also ambitious and interesting even if the dialog ends up lacking.
There's also nothing inherently wrong with using toy designs, which are usually carefully created to be highly appealing and interesting. There's actually incentive to make shows better when toys need to be sold because it's expensive to make them and getting kids to like them adds substantive value to the product. It's obviously possible for cynical brainless shows to be made simply to sell toys but in general the 80s shows had creative minds behind them that made good solid settings and characters, ultimately let down by scriptwriting.
It's a difference in mindset, really. If you prefer things that aim for epic but fall a little short, you tend to like 80s shows. If you want something ugly and small scale but consistent and unchallenging, go 00s

They were also rushed most of the time having to get 52 (more or less) episodes done while at the same time having to bow to whatever toy company they're working for's whims. Like the TF show runner knew about the majority of the animation errors but couldn't afford to have the entire thing sent back overseas to be redone so they let it air as is.

the season 3 errors were also caused by pulling money out of the series after the movie under performed. Critics didn't understand the movie and gave it bad reviews. Kids didn't want to see a movie where all their favorite characters died, several times.

They ended up moving a lot of the later episodes to a korean company that barely knew what they were doing. They make a lot of good stuff now, but Transformers Season 3 was what a lot of them cut their teeth on.

talking about the movie again, its funny that adults had so much trouble understanding the movie because of how fast everything was. And yet a lot of modern action movies now move just as fat and have similar plots.

There is better animation in 5 seconds of any of those shows than in a whole episode of the absolute slide show calarts horse shit today thats all about being a whining pussy.

    this gets so tiresome.

You're just an old frick. The show is the same. You're just old.Almost nothing is going to give you that buzz you got as a kid. Get over it and stop punishing others who still enjoy things by having to read your shit.

What is so fricking hard about just accepting your old and jaded?
