I'm not sure how Kwanzaa is viewed these days but I think I'm young (or old?) enough where Kwanzaa has always been a fake holiday and nobody pretends otherwise.

Didn't Kamala Harris claim she celebrates Kwanzaa or am I thinking of someone else?

Kamala Harris claims she's intelligent, but there's no proof of that.

It exists, but most African Americans just keep to Christmas because they're a Christian heavy community, regardless of denomination.

It barely exists. It was a modern invention, not a real tradition africans do.

They pushed it way harder in the mid/late 90s.
I'm not sure how old or young you are, but the public school system basically tried to sell it as though it were as legitimate as Hanukah.

What was wrong with people all just preferring Christmas, anyway?

Because it has the word "Christ" in it or because it's "white" so it must be replaced or something idk
I really don't get how anyone hates Christmas.

Because some black people (fringe commie university types) see Christianity as a vile religion that was forced upon the black race by slavers and colonizers. So Kwanzaa was essentially created as a means to combat the eurocentric culture forced on black people and return them to their African roots. Problem is that Sub-Saharan Africa has just as many diverse cultures and religions as the Native Americans did and trying to create a general amalgamation of them would be about as easy as trying to force Norse, Christian, Roman, Germanic, and Gaelic traditions together. Also doesn't help that Afircan Americans are so detached to their African roots due to inbreeding between slaves and interracial coupling that no one would really have any sort of idea of what African Culture to subscribe to.

Christianity as a revolutionary proletarian/peasant/slave religion doesn't exist anymore. It's a religion representing the bourgeoisie values of white people. If Jesus was alive today he would either pity white people or defy them in anger at what americans turned christianity into which isn't far off the mark considering the recent floods in israel

      >I remember Futurama making a joke about it though
Reminder there more white people celebrating Kwanzaa than actual African Americans. Kwanzaa at most considered a joke holiday in African countries to poke fun of black America.

That was a 90's thing. It faded away because nobody made a big controversy over it. If they tried to push it these days, morons on fox news would melt down so hard that it would become an important issue that would spawn debate for the next few decades.

My yearly Kwanzaa celebration is to bring an uncooked ear of corn to work on a day that isn't part of Kwanzaa and leave it on my desk. I tell anyone that asks that Kwanzaa just started and the frickers always believe me. Sometimes the people that got tricked in previous years go along with it and we all have a good laugh. I like to think that I am responsible for roughly 90% of Kwanzaa awareness in the 2020s, since this has impacted north of 10 people.
