If you get a laceration will you trust the science and go to the hospital, or will you perform a traditional shaman medicinal dance and hope for the best? Be honest.

            Anonymous

This is disingenuous. A laceration is treated in procedures that are easily understood by the common person. An average man depending on the severity of the wound could take care of it himself. Climate science is highly complex and requires a high level of education and research. It is not understood by the common man, we instead have to rely upon experts and organizations that report their results in a digestible fashion. However, trust in the scientific community has been particularly low in recent years, so it's unsurprising that many doubt the current projections of climate scientists. It does not help that when climate alarmists used models from yesteryear to make blinding leaps that did not come to pass that most view what we hear now as just more inane ramblings. And finally, politically charged rhetoric on all sides today just incentivizes one side to view the other as brainless oafs or placid sheep.

It's really far more nuanced than one side being absolute fools, it could be said that all are fools or none are depending on how you look at it. But contrary to the message driven home in the movie, people are not simply "not looking up," because confirmation of the data is not quite so simple. I have my own reservations, despite my admittedly basic research in university into greenhouse gases.

False equivalence is false. The last pandemic was the biggest con in history, the largest transfer of wealth from teh poor for the rich happened before your eyes, and even if the plague pope Fauci himself says with his mouth vaccines kills more than it heals and lockdowns didn't work you woudln't believe it. Now being skeptic of a con is the same thing as put dung on my booboos.

The most unrealistic part of the movie is that it somehow paints one side as people with perfectly morally righteous people and the other side as corrupt devils only after money.

Yeah sure, the conservatives who dispute that emissions cause global warming might be doing that because they are paid by oil companies, but the smug green liberal constantly reminding everyone of the impending apocalypse also just wants 50 million a year donated to his NGO.

It's an issue of them also overlooking solutions or how their methods will effect things. Like them trying to shut down coal with no proposed backup that can actually meat energy demand, and also a mentality of shut down now build the fix after. They do the same with gas too not realizing most of our supply chain runs on it.

No the issue if they just call to shut it down without a fix. Most would go against nuclear so what infrastructure could their be to support a mass change to electric vehicles? I'm all for such a mass shift but we need to have it ready before he just shut shit down.

            >No the issue if they just call to shut it down without a fix.
Who is saying that? Pretty much all these "leftists" you speak of are calling for them to be shut down while simultaneously promoting nuclear or green energy (depending on the leftist you talk to because they cannot agree on nuclear).
            >Most would go against nuclear so what infrastructure could their be to support a mass change to electric vehicles?
It would probably have to be heavily subsidized at first to get it going and all you would need is put those dumb chargers everywhere like there are gas stations and that's it. It's not like they need a new road lol.
            >I'm all for such a mass shift but we need to have it ready before he just shut shit down.
Again I don't know who you are referring to. Most people want it shut down while building up new shit I'd imagine.

              >and all you would need is put those dumb chargers everywhere
This doesn't fix the far larger oil consumption that comes from trains, boats, and planes. A mass shift to electric cars would not be much in the grand scheme of oil consumption. Now there are solutions here but it's a far more complex issue to mass shift global shipping to electric.

                >This doesn't fix the far larger oil consumption that comes from trains, boats, and planes.
You were talking about electric vehicles which in most cases refers to cars and that's what I primarily answered. In terms of co2 emissions to use I think trains are the most eco friendly of the three there. I mean they all are bad for the environment but it's about minimization of emissions. You won't get net 0% in this day of age I'm pretty sure but you can get close to where it wouldn't have *that* bad of an effect on the environment.
                >A mass shift to electric cars would not be much in the grand scheme of oil consumption.
In the US, it would. Transportation according to the EPA is one of our biggest sectors of greenhouse gas emissions mostly because how everyone uses cars for transport.
                >Now there are solutions here but it's a far more complex issue to mass shift global shipping to electric.
Doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Not trying is boomer shit.

see you have a core misundertanding here that I referenced earlier, you are conflating oil consumption with cars and then emissions, when oil is widely used elsewhere and transportation using oil includes more than cars by a significant amount

                >you are conflating oil consumption with cars and then emissions
Transportation uses a lot of oil which then is emitted yes.
                >when oil is widely used elsewhere
                Yes. "elsewhere". Fantastic
                >transportation using oil includes more than cars by a significant amount
                >The largest sources of transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions include passenger cars, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and light-duty trucks, including sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and minivans. These sources account for over half of the emissions from the transportation sector.

Not trusting a community that is showing signs of corruption is not the same thing as trusting no one at any time. It's not that you distrust science itself, it is that you distrust corrupted science, of which there are mountains of examples throughout history, filled with common swindlers and parrots looking for a paycheck. I'm not even reticent to the accepted view that emissions are harmful to the environment, but I am wholly suspicious of entities extracting from the data opportunity to plunder the wealth of the common man through useless, feel-good initiatives that only serve to line their pockets and worsen the lives of everyone.

So the way to stop the planet from blowding up is to allow the elites to buy more private jets, yachts and land and to tear up trillions of acres of carbon trapping pasture to plant gmo crops while we cancel nuclear power for being racist and build solar plants in places where it's overcast for 95% of the year

The problem is that solutions to the problem are vague and ineffectual, and brought upon by leaders who are constitutionally incapable of honesty. How can you trust anyone to listen to the plight of a liar, however honest the science behind it is? It is not as if should tomorrow these crooks wake up changed to the man and worked together for a common goal that a realistic solution to the problem could be reached in any reasonable time. I am not saying that we should continue on as we are forever, but I am certainly not saying it is wise to blindly trust that any number of these billion-dollar climate bills will genuinely change the matter. Any reticence to current approaches of climate activists are always met with these "gotcha" moments, as though we're all careening off the cliff, moments from death. This alarmism has to stop and politically charged rhetoric has to calm down, or no one will ever come to an agreement.

Yeah this pretty much. It's the same with how they handled covid. Scaring everyone about the lethality when it really wasn't that deadly. Still worth preventing it from apreading because grandma could legitimately die from it. Lying about how effective vaccinations were, how you couldn't spread it and the chance of getting it was nearly 4%. All fricking lies. When there was a shortage of masks they claimed masks weren't that effecfive against spread-prevention. When the masks came in it was suddenly essential to the survival of mankind.

Why not be honest about it all? They lie to convey the urgency of the situation but by lying people can easily poke through it all and you get fricking riots and people going rogue.

no it isn't, there is more consensus on IQ than the public thinks and surveys on anthropomorphic climate change are not as uniform as the public is lead to believe.

find one of the surveys that shows the literal questions they use and who they are asking. The trick is grouping answers together and then implying that group is saying something different.

            Anonymous

to add, the disagreement on IQ comes in the form of causation, not disputing its validity at the end of the day. Surveys on genetic heritability as opposed to environmental causes also vary between the sciences, getting more confident in heritability the further they are away from humans, and the further they are away from the west (asia is in the 80s iirc)

What facts? They aren't heavily investing like you said. It's pocket change compared to their profits. I never said they didn't invest, you said they were heavily investing, which they aren't? But I suppose it's semantics and you think giving a homeless guy $5 is heavily investing their future. Good day!

I mean 4.6 billion given from Oil and gas companies is really nothing amongst 2.6 trillion right? even if they gave 4.6 billion for 10 years that's nothing. Are they investing? Yeah, is it a lot? In the grand schemes of things no. They make more through coal, gas, and oil and they want to keep it that way. And stop screaming "leftist" like some maga parrot moron

i'm just gonna copy a post i found on Cinemaphile. It sums up chuds perfectly.

10 years from now when it gets much much worse you will still have morons denying it. It's a fallacy of sunk costs. Admitting you were wrong would mean that you have spent time and effort being a moron. So you decide to continue believing in obvious bullshit to trick your mind that you didn't lose that time and effort. Same things happen with older people who realize god doesn't exist. They double down and become cartoonish bigots.

It is dishonest because it reinforced the false narrative that it is an issue of science when it is an issue of politics. The only solution that was ever viable was one where alternative energy sources became more profitable than fossil fuels.

    >try to force policies with asymmetrical costs and wonder why the people who have to bear those costs don't want those policies

Ask anyone in favor of these policies how much they are personally willing to give up to enact climate change policies and they change their tone real quick.
