Remember when trey and Matt defended tobacco corporations just because some anti smoking groups are cringe and because celebrities who promote anti smoking dialogue are a bit hypocritical and out of touch?

Yeah Rob Reiner is fat and not everyone has a vacation home they can go to relax to, that doesn't mean tobacco corporations are good.

It's because they're contrarian libertarians. They want to make a joke about regulation happy busy bodies using government to control consumer choices but really they just make a case that unhealthy food should be controlled too within the limits of food being necessary and cigarettes being recreational.

That was intended as a self parody, you weren't meant to like the tobacco guy. It's just that you missed that because Parker and Stone are very clever but naive enough to think everyone will get what they're trying to do, and therefore wrote something utterly shit.

More so the joke is more nuanced that the average everyday normalgay knows but does not care. As you are living in an industrialized world with unrestricted CO2 emissions along with cancerous chemicals in our water and food let alone the air we breathe. Plastic is probably going to be the death of life on earth causing low birthrates and defects. No one, and I mean no one even the rich are going to be safe from forever micro chemicals.

a rare miss for classic south park.
What's funny is, they correctly identified that whiny annoying "anti-smoking" movements drive you to smoke out of spite (it's how my sister staretd)
what they neglected to realize is that the tobacco companies fund those
That's not even a tinfoil conspiracy, the government forces them to. After this episode, they got even more overt about it. including a commercial that was saying smoking was great, then right at the end "wait, what? no it's not" (which frequently got cut off)

the tobacco companies fund those? really?

They fund them in the sense "gets a check because we are forced by the government "

Not them actually writing the script.

I'm so tired of the tobacco industry being demonized. this is all just a distraction from the real threat, which is all the food manufacturers and the obscene ingredients and corn syrup and trash they shove into all our food, and the dairy industry colluding with the government (because it essentially IS the government) to sell more slop to everyone, especially children, despite it being overall pretty unhealthy.

it's a false flag operation and they fell for it.

it's well known, go look it up yourself. the government requires them to, extension of the same idea behind putting increasingly negative warnings on the packages.

They miss a lot of shit, global warming being the most obvious that they backtracked on, but there's still shit like changing the town flag where the little white kids are so not-racist they don't understand whats offensive about a lynching being portrayed on a flag, entirely missing the point of it being a government sanctioned representation of all the shit blacks had to deal with during and after reconstruction and our standard white washing of history to exclude a lot of the heinous shit in our own history. The kids not knowing what a lynching is isn't some ideal of racial harmony, its an institutional problem with the education system, the old "the color of your skin doesn't matter, lets not make the children face our uncomfortable past" which only white people think because they're the only ones who get to walk around like king shit.

The "bike curious" joke destroyed the point they were trying to make about how "gay" isn't a hateful thing to say. The look they give Butters, the reason him saying "bike curious" is funny at all, operates off gay = homosexual. A lot of South Park's moralizing often bounces off the misguided and condescending notion of "childhood innocence". That episode double down on kids being too innocent to ever be homophobic or see being gay as a bad thing, so when they call someone gay, they don't know they're implying it's bad to be gay and they're actually supportive of gay people.

The problem with ManBearPig is that An Inconvenient Truth was alarmist bullshit that even Gore himself poked fun at in Futurama. An actual walkback would be showing ManBearPig as a problem but Gore's characterization of it being completely unhelpful and making people tune out.

My main issue with cigarettes is this: you can shovel down whatever vile ultra-processed corn syrup laced crapola you want, fry it in pure lard I don't give a frick. Even if you eat it on the same bus as me, I don't get any of that shit in my system.
But smokers on the other hand, by necessity spread all that toxic garbage around every room and public space they inhabit.
