What the most obvious retcons in Adventure Time? I think almost anything about the Ice King could qualify, but I believe the revelation that Simon is Marceline's surrogate father might be it. Not only did they not interact at all before the episode which established that, it puts a lot of details about their dynamics with other characters into question. So for example, if Marceline knew who he really was all along and that he couldn't help himself, why did she allow Finn, Jake and PB to treat him like shit?

Because she was deliberately attempting to ignore and avoid him? They even foreshadowed this in Holly Jolly Secrets, Marceline appears at the end to join their watch party but she stays outside from the window.

All this other shit was just backstory, nothing was changed. Also he wasn't her father you moron. He was her good friend and he protected her for a short time. But if you were to actually WATCH the show you would see that their dynamic isn't even close to father daughter.
