Richard Simmons

In 2014 he abruptly withdrew from public life. Any theories why?

You're not wrong but he seemed to enjoy it up to that point, it is odd to go from multiple talk show appearances a year and literally calling your fans on the phone to motivate them to shutting yourself up in your mansion and only interacting with your dogs and your housekeeper.

      You're misremembering this:
      >In May 2017, he sued the National Enquirer, Radar Online, and American Media, Inc. for libel and false claims that he was undergoing gender reassignment. In September 2017, Simmons lost the lawsuit, and was ordered to pay the defendants' attorney's fees. The judge ruled, "because courts have long held that a misidentification of certain immutable characteristics do not naturally tend to injure one's reputation, even if there is sizeable portion of the population who hold prejudices against those characteristics, misidentification of a person as transgender is not actionable defamation absent special damages."
i.e. Judge said "saying someone is a troony is not defamatory lmao, get rekt", which I imagine is a dimension-shattering blow to your morale.

So basically Richard Simmons is the embodiment of "frick this gay world".

Literally how is it not defamatory for those shitty tabloids to constantly spew outright lies that make you look bad? I genuinely don't understand. If you make money by misleading the public and telling lies about people, you should be punished. Why was he ruled against? What's the logic here?

It's not a theory: Richard Simmons was heavily abused as a child and aerobics was his outlet. Several people over dozens of years have tried to make him to "come out of the closet" thinking that he's a full-fledged homosexual. Conversely, while he's effeminate and affected, he has rejected those accusations over and over and over, and takes great offense at the implication, as clearly shown in . As the world became "more gay" he drew inward more and more, unable to accept that people just wallow in the degneracy with no end in sight, and he didn't want to be part of that world, so he retired.

      t. my uncle was his accountant until 2018 when he was let go (on good terms) because Simmons had it all under control himself

Interesting. I know that he's never publicly discussed being in a relationship of any kind, and I've read his autobiography and he never once mentions a sexual interest of any kind, male or female. He never hints at any abuse in his book (other than perhaps emotional, apparently his parent's didn't believe that he was asthmatic as it was thought to be a psychosomatic illness at the time). Who abused him? Priest? I know he was involved in the church at some point.

          Anonymous

According to my uncle he was molested by more than one of his parents' "friends" (when he was telling me about he made a point that Simmons kept using finger quotation marks) and abused by a dancer friend of his mother who apparently was close enough that her mother referred to her as "his aunt" (as in, "come say hello to your aunt"). He said he didn't elaborate and what happened to him, but he used both "molested" and "abused" as two different things so I assume that woman sucked his wiener or something.
          >never once mentions a sexual interest of any kind
My uncle thinks he's just completely asexual.

            Anonymous

Yeah. It adds up, I've heard that often people who were molested as kids, especially repeatedly, often have one or two outcomes as an adult: either they become massively promiscuous or they essentially become asexual.

Anyways hopefully he's happy doing what he's doing now, he seemed like a genuinely good person.

were probably very impactful to his psyche. My uncle said he was the kind of person that would feel down whenever he read a depressing article on the paper, so I imagine the pandemic and current wars going on probably had a big toll on him, and current troony and fatty culture don't help either. Last I talked to him about Simmons in 2022 he told me a common friend said he saw him and seemed a little distraught and that he complained that his sister in law was pestering him to get checked for Alzheimer's.

My aunt, my uncle's sister, has Alzheimer's, so he thinks Simmons' sister in law could be right because he did notice him being forgetful a lot since 2016, years earlier. While he's old, he has enough money to afford the best medicine can offer, and 24/7 caretaker, but I guess it'd be ironic if someone like him spends his last years devoid of vigor.

I liked his YouTube channel. It's how I started exercising and then started going to the gym. It felt like the industry finally passed him by and he didn't want to adapt to the streaming thing. The last video skits he posted on YouTube only got a few thousand views and a few hundred likes. That has to be disheartening to someone who sold millions of tapes. Of all things, his last video was a spoof of The Carrie Diaries and Anna Sophia Robb.

He was active forever. I think in his case, he was getting older, realized that he couldn't keep up with everyone else, and just wanted to retire.

I have an uncle that went full recluse for most part once he retired. He barely pops up for anything and if we hear from him it's like once a year at most. He's doing well, but I think he just get tired. He did sales for like 40+ and probably got tired of fricking talking to people and wanted to enjoy his commission earnings in peace.

His videos were perfect for old people and obese people because he didn't look completely buff himself and he was very friendly. He also had different work out levels. The first level is so basic that only moribund people couldn't do it. If you couldn't get off your couch and do a level 1 Richard Simmons workout, you should probably see your doctor immediately. He was the best of the fitness gurus of the 20th century.

it was his housekeeper, and supposedly the LADP investigated and deemed it baseless.

Around 2012 being fat was beginning to be promoted as being beautiful. He couldn’t go against the new Hollywood agenda which was his entire brand so he had to bow out.
